How awful and what a pain! We got a new fridge a couple of months ago because our old one was acting funny and I was afraid it was going to die in the middle of the night! LOL

I think it's amazing on how the birds crack open the nuts! We have a palm tree trunk that was cut pretty much flush to the ground and I'm finding nut shells on it all the time from the crows.

I think I got my fruit & veggies under control (fingers crossed). For the month, I averaged 6 servings each day. Some day's were only 5 but others were 8! and I never went below 5. I'm pretty happy about that.

Sounds like we all got our challenges done this month!

Sorry to hear about the broken fridge, what a pain! Incorporating yoga at the gym is a great idea. I'll have to think about adding some Tai Chi to my weight lifting session - thanks for the idea!

I got in two quiet times this week, so I did really well. I rode out to the beach (about a 30 mile ride) and sat listening to the ocean. It was great! The sand was warm, there were birds all around and it was so immense and yet so peaceful.

I also sat and watched crows try to crack walnuts. They are ingenious. They fly up and drop them on the road, they take rocks and crack them on the walnuts, they throw them with their beaks against anything hard...then they fight over the meat. It's really funny.

Week 1 8/3 to 8/9: yoga X4

Week 2 8/10 to 8/16: yoga X4 I didn' think I was going to make this one, but I did! Yeah!

Week 3 8/17 to 8/23: only 2 days of yoga this week, lots of stress, so it would have been a good idea to do more. But I have a new week to improve!

Week 4 8/24 to 8/30: I only managed one yoga session this week. It was a crazy week though, my schedule was all off, so I'm not surprised, but a little disappointed. I suppose I really should have made it more of a priority. Lesson learned. I did employ some yoga stretches at the gym though, so I guess it's not a total loss.

Thanks for the encouragement Rondarc, and I think 6 fruit and veggie servings a day is great! I have been struggling with that this week as well, as I have that goal ongoing. I was just barely able to get in 5 a day for most of this week, mostly because of the training classes I was attending, and my refrigerator broke on Friday! Had to toss most of the contents of the fridge!

RONDARC - Congrats on making the fruits and veggies a new habit!

Got in my "peace" time on Sunday. Did a century ride and took a break to sit under a tree and watch the woodpecker's nearby. I was in a deep canyon and felt completely alone, it was wonderful...great ride too.

CALGALFOX, sounds like a wonderful run with your quiet time included.

Kizzy, glad you're back, hope you had a great time. Looks like you've jumped right back in. Good for you.

Since my last post. I've gotten at least 7 servings of my fruit and veggies daily. It's getting easier to eat 7 servings and not even think about it.

Hi all,

Getting back into the groove of things after a week away. Tuesday managed to get in 2 1/2 miles of walking. Not a hike in the mountains but at least some miles. I'll work on improving this week. Tomorrow 5 miles planned and then Friday I'll try to get in another 2 or 3.

We did a 4 + miles trail run, not in Briones, but in the hills around Lafayette (San Francisco, CA). It was just after first light and the birds weren't even out yet! After the run we sat, stretched and had a nice quiet time.

RWETHAIRYET, keep it up. Before you know it, it will be a habit and you'll have a happier DH because you won't be walking in your sleep!!

CALGALFOX, sounds like a great relaxing bike ride! I love to do nothing and listen to the birds sing. Hope you get your quiet moment in at SF Briones Park.

KAYOTIC, Way to go!! You're doing great!

Since my last post, I've had 6 servings each day with 8 on Friday!

We're all doing great!!

Last Saturday I did an 80 mile bike ride through wine country. I took a break in the middle of nowhere, sat on a fence and looked out over miles and miles of golden, rolling hills. I listened to birds and enjoyed the peace.

This weekend I'll be in San Francisco. Briones Park has excellent trail running trails. Great hill running, lovely scenery and the weather should be nice. I plan to get in another quiet moment there.

I've been a slacker this past week or so. When I do stretch, it does help with the flexibility during the day and I don't "walk" as much at night...which my husband really appreciates, since he gets a couple of good kicks when my legs are restless. I've been managing every 2nd or 3rd day, but need to work on consistency...especially with the getting up on time so I have the time.

Enjoyed a nice day here in Maine. Took a 5 mile hike on a trail I haven't done in awhile. It has a very long steep section that can be tough a fat lady like me. Happy to report I made it up that whole section with out having to stop. At the top I had to take a minute to catch my breath before continuing on up to the summit. Rain ispredicted here for the next week. I will try to get out tomorrow for a shorter hike before work. Looks like I'll be taking a week's trip to FL with my friend. We both bought homes there last spring and want to go check on them. With forecasts for rain over the next 10 days we figured it was a good time to get away. Hope to take my computer with me so as to keep in touch while away.

Happy trails everyone,

Kizzyy

Everyone sounds like they've got great goals going. My one thing?

Okay, my goal for the month is to simply sit and enjoy life, either in the mountains or at the beach, once a week. No thinking, just living and listening.

I never spend enough time stretching. I'd like to challenge myself to spend some time stretching, daily...10 minutes in the am as I get up, 10 mins before bed. Maybe it'll help with the general stiffness on rising and maybe even help with some of the restlessness at nights....I feel like I've walked 20 miles in my sleep some ams without ever leaving my bed.

Today's hiking Miles: 3

Enjoyed a nice early morning hike on one our local trails. It's a good uphill hike for 1 mile to a great ledge overview then I take a loop trail along the top of the ridge back that adds another mile to the route. I'm going to push myself to try to get 9 - 12 miles per week hiking for this challenge.

I really get a lot of fruit and veggi's in but I am striving for more time on my bike.. So My goal is to ride at least 3 times a week.. preferable before work in the early AM.

Another thing I want to do is find time to get in the steam room at the community club so I am going to try to get down there 1 time this month and work in more time as winter comes..

I have started back here in Feb 2012 after putting some weight back on. I lost 114lbs here previously and I now know I need this community and the food tracker to keep me in check.

My challenge this month is to avoid emotional eating. I have a terrible time with boredom on the job and then when I get stressed on the job I want to head for the kitchen. Since I work from home, it's soooo easy to do.

The 6000 mile goal per month is for the entire team. We have 500 members and if everyone joins, it's only 12 miles a month per member. I do know not everyone is going to join, so I can adjust the goal amount after it gets going and I see how many people have joined. I hope that helps.

Question, you set a 6000 mile goal per month for hiking, that's 200 miles a day. Should that be 600?

Great challenge! I need to work on my fruits and veggies, too. My goal will be 5 minimum per day and shoot for much more.

How I wish I could get outside more, but with this heat...forget it. I might not even be able to hike on Sunday!

Losing weight is a little like hiking. If you only look at how big the mountain (or how much you want to lose) is, it becomes overwhelming. But, if instead you look just 5 feet (or 5 pounds) ahead, it isn't quite so hard!

In August I will strength train at least once per week outside my weekly rock climbing night.

Cardio is under control, but I've been struggling to develop a resistance training habit.

I eat lots of fruit and veggies everyday, but I'm lacking in the area of getting outside and getting daily exercise. I do a lot of hiking on the weekends and sometimes through the week in the evening, but most days I leave my day job and go to work in the spa doing massage therapy in the evening. This leaves little time to get in exercise. I need to work toward walking at least 30 minutes each day during my lunch hour. Thanks for the challenge!

Hi everyone. Let's start a month challenge. For the month of August, name one thing you will strive to get better at and turn it into a healthy habit for life. It can be anything you want it to be, more exercise, more me time, etc.

My one thing for the month is going to be having at least 5 servings or fruit & veggies a day, I'm having a tough time with this one and want to make it a habit.

Now, for the rest of you, name your one thing and let's come back daily and post on how we are doing. Good luck everyone!
