I asked him to marry me in the summer of 1998. I gave him a gift, but he didn't have money to buy me a ring...

On Thanksgiving I came home to our apartment and when I looked under the closed blinds, I could see all this candle-light, so I was anticipating something big! He presented me with a beautiful ring.

We were married in Sept. 2000.

I'm not sure if I want a do-over or not... My dad was extremely ill with cancer (he died Nov. that year) and I pretty well cried through the whole wedding...It really wasn't the best day of my life...more like the most stressful!

My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy for 2010 (our 10th anniv. year)...maybe we'll renew our vows...We're still considering...

Oh, I would FOR SURE do it over again! We were together for 7 1/2 yrs 1 child and 1 on the way before we got married (we had planned both children, WERE NOT getting married "because" of them, just to make it clear!) I was 7 months pregnant in my wedding, skin and bones with a huge tummy lump. We were supposed to get married at the beginning of our pregnancy like planned, but, I wound up getting REALLY sick, so we postponed it AGAIN until I was better. Anyway, we would love to do it again just to re-live the moment, and make it all fresh again....When? We don't know yet, but we will know!!

My husband and I have known each other since late summer 1995 (we were still in high school). But anyway, he came to visit me when I lived in Miami, FL(we were only friends at that time). I told him about a dream that I had that he proposed to me at my church in Miami, FL. Well we started talking about getting married and doing things right (our partents are church goers). Well I started noticing he would talk to my best friend that lives in TX and my spiritual mother who lives in Miami in another room. Well on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at our church in Blytheville, Arkansas my husband, in front of our pastor, our moms, and some other family members, proposed to me in front of the congregation at church. Just like I told him in the dream I had at my church in Miami, FL. I was so stunned cause I had no idea he would even remember my dream I told him. I was crying so hard that I had to nod my yes cause I couldn't talk.

I think I would like a do over too.I'd like him to ask me after giving me a stuffed bear holding a ring box with a beautiful ring inside (I saw that on a tv show once and thought it was so sweet). Our wedding was a little ceremony at the justice of the peace followed by an outdoor party at my husband's aunt's house. It was nice but we didn't really get a lot of pictures and ever since I was a little girl I always dreamed of having a church wedding and wearing a beautiful gown.
Even if he doesn't want to do all of that I think I'd at least like a new ring because I smashed my engagement and wedding ring while I was working and even though they weren't totally destroyed I can't wear them again.

I'm with KATIES22880, I want a do-over. My engagement was nothing memorable. I've been married 14 years now and for my 20th wedding anniversary I plan to have a re-engagement and renew our vows. This time, we will have a "hopeless romantic" engagement and our dream wedding.

I'm not exactly sure when he asked but we told everyone it was Christmas Eve. We had bought the ring and were talking about the wedding and it was pretty warm for December so we were standing outside at night and he hugged me looked up at the sky , looked down at me and said "So will you?"
He said it almost like he expected me to say no.
We've been married for 8 years and together for 9.
I remember on our first date we saw three shooting stars and I just took that as a sign.

I argue with my husband that I want a "do over" we knew we were getting married, although he hadn't asked. We went and bought the rings. The sales clerk was overly pushy about me wearing it out of the store since it fit perfectly. So I did. We got to the truck in the parking lot and I took it off. He asked me what I was doing and I told him I wasn't wearing it until he asked me. So he took the ring. Literally said "Will you marry me" and I said yes. And that was it. He's sweet but he got out of having to do anything at all. So I tell him now even though we've been married 5 years I want a do over! emoticon

The first time I married, my college boyfriend and I had planned everything as far as getting and being married, and had picked out a ring together, but I didn't know when he'd do the Official Proposal. He was away Student Teaching for a term, and the only weekend he could come back up to main campus where I was, was on Valentine's Day weekend. Everyone was doing elaborate plans for V's Day, since it was on a Sunday. We agreed - to get engaged on Valentine's was too cliche for us (it was 1977), so he wouldn't be able to do it then. I was disappointed, but knew I'd have to wait another two or three months, until I saw him again. He arrived really late on Friday, exhausted of course, and ready to go to his boarding house to sleep. At least that's what he told me! He stopped in for a "quick hi", and surprised me with the ring, a proposal, and a "Happy Lincoln's Birthday"!

We had been together for 5 years when my mom passed away. I moved back home and he came to visit me from Georgia. One night we were, laying in bed talking about my mom and good old times, when he got on his knees and told me that my mom meant the world to him and he promised to protect me because she was no longer around...we were both crying. I said yes, of course. That was 5 years ago and he is still my protector on earth. I luv him... emoticon

What a fun thread.
We met on a blind date. 5 months later he planned a dinner out with the woman who introduced us. She called and said wouldn't it be fun if we got dressed up. So I wore a nice dress he had bought me. Well we didn't go to the restaurant he said we were meeting our friend at. Instead we went to a very fancy downtown restaurant, just the 2 of us. There were a dozen red roses on the table and a bottle of chilled french champagne. He wrote me a poem that he had memorized and recited, then he proposed. It was magical. We've been married over 7 wonderful years.
We just went back to that restaurant to celebrate our engagement. Since I've lost this weight, I was able to fit back into the dress he proposed to me in.
What a great feeling !

We had been together for about 5 years, and I always thought we'd get married someday, but I was still surprised when he proposed. It was summer session at collage and I had just gotten home from a class, it was a random Tuesday afternoon. All of a sudden it started pouring rain, a torrential downpour, and he jumped up and said "lets go outside", I told him he was crazy and he said "come on, you've always wanted to make out in the rain, lets go", so I said OK. We're outside, drenched, kissing on our front stoop and he pulls away and says "marry me", all I could say was "ok". He still jokes about how he can't believe all I said was "ok" in response and I joke that he didn't even get down on his knee, but we both know it was perfect the way it was. It was so spontaneous, he didn't have a ring or anything, so I got to pick it out that weekend. Every time there's a huge rainstorm it makes me think of that special afternoon :)

Hmmm... We just knew we were getting married, I don't recall officially when we started talking about it though.

I didn't know when I was getting the ring I picked out, but one night he drove to the place we first met (years before that, I was only 14 the first time we met, and it was just for a couple of minutes, I was so suprised he even remembered!) He turned to me and had the ring, and asked if I wanted him to get out and get down on one knee? I was like No, Silly! I love you give me the ring!

We have been married 9 years today. emoticon emoticon

You all are going to love this one... I met my now hubby back in the 70's when hitch hiking was a big deal right when he was going thru a messy divorce...he drove a semi over the road and he picked me up and I went with him all over for a couple weeks and then back home to his place where I met his family and after that I went home his mother kept in touch with me and would send me things and say it was from him and he even came to see me with his kids one time after that he would have his kids write me and about 3 years went by and I drove down to see him was there a week and he asked me to move in with him I did and we got married 2 months later.

wow, what an amazing engagement story.
i wish brian had been a little more planned, but it was spontaneous, and i think he was secretly terrified to grow up, haha.

I was in class for my graduate program and got home a little after nine o'clock. I was exhausted and a little grumpy. I parked in my garage and when I came up through the basement I saw the living room was lit up by candles and music was playing. I figured i was going to get a nice back massage. I saw a trail of rose petals across the room and followed them to a sign that said past. I followed them up the stairs to a sign that said present, and into the bedroom where Phillip was on one knee. He had the future sign, a red rose, a gorgeous 3 stone engagement ring and a bottle of champagne!

..about how you got engaged. I thought it might be cute to share stories. I'll go first.

To keep it short and sweet:
Brian took me into the city one day after work. We were suppose to go to a party for a friend. Over sushi and Saki he asks me if i want to get married. No ring, no knee. I said, "maybe one day". Blowing it off as a casual questions.
We leave, go through Ritten house park, and he stops me, gets down and pulls out a ring box. It was incredibly sweet.
He's a smart man, he knows i wouldnt accept "wanna get hitched" over sushi with no real gesture.

We've been married 2 years and 2 days!

Ok, now you ladies.
