I have missed quite a few days...
...between all the snow we are having and my husband's surgery, I have not been on the computer much the past week. (He's doing great! He just can't help me shovel.)

Day 9 was particularly good for us:

Start at the perimeter of the grocery store.
Fruits, veggies, dairy and grains, which should make up the bulk of your diet, are located here. Eating these unprocessed foods boosts your nutritional intake and promotes health.

These are not just healthy foods, many of them are budget friendly!

Chew on schedule. Too much time between meals can drop your
energy levels, decrease your metabolism and result in overeating.
Space your meals evenly throughout the day and eat a healthy snack
between each meal.

Drink water. It's
the only beverage
your body really needs
and craves. Gradually
replace soda, flavored
coffees, sugary drinks
and other high-cal
liquids with water. Aim
for 8-12 cups each day.

I'll admit that sometimes I count my milk as part of my water requirement, but never coffee, juice, or soda.

I do not drink enough milk.

True, true.

... and we still should watch out for the battered,
breaded, buttery, cheesy, creamy, crispy, fried, and giant.

Baked is better than fried, and we should go easy on the cheese.

I rarely buy butter or cream anyway.

Are you going out to eat?

Day 4

Know your "red
flag" menu
words. Avoid
restaurant items
described as:
battered, bottomless,
breaded, buttery,
cheesy, country,
creamy, crispy, fried,
giant, loaded,
smothered and
stuffed.

Of course, those of us who are saving money by eating at home, don't have to worry about that one!

Hi Karen,

Day 2 was breakfast.

Eat breakfast. It
boosts your
energy, metabolism and
mental focus. Plus,
breakfast eaters
consume fewer calories
throughout the day
than people who skip
this meal.

Day 3

Enjoy 2-4 servings
of fruit each day.
Fruits are rich in
nutrients, fiber,
phytochemicals and
antioxidants, which all
help prevent disease.
One serving is equal to
1/2 cup.

This one should be no problem for me.
However, I have not tracked today's food. I better do that now!

Thanks a bunch. I forget about these calendars and basic tips too. I'll check it daily.

Have a wonderful healthy March filled with good habits.

Dear Lord, set my sights on You and Your great attributes. Help me to live in Your presence, dependent on Your guidance each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

March is National Nutrition month. Have you seen the SP calendar?

Even if you have done it before, it's good to look at it again to see how you are doing now.

I have built some good habits, but I realize that there are other things that I did at the beginning that I have let go and should pick up again.

Day 1 starts right off with one of those. I have stopped recording what I eat. It takes time and I do not want to do it for the rest of my life, but I definitely should do it again.

Day 1

Keep a food
diary. Before you
can improve your diet,
you have to know
where you stand.
Record everything you
eat and drink for five
days and use these
tips to improve your
diet a little bit each
day.
