I'm not sure if adding the pulp and juice of an orange would work for replacing half the fat in a recipe...

... maybe I will see if I can find an orange chocolate chip cookie recipe.

BTW, I just started a new thread for sharing recipes. Once I get my recipe, I think I will post it over there.

No, I never did.

Although I think I have heard of a chocolate orange combo somewhere else...

It's an interesting idea.

I think I will wait until cooler weather to make any cookies. Right now yogurt sounds good.

But you are right. I have heard of chocolate-orange...

I do think applesauce would work though. I've had cookies with applesauce in them before.

glad i could help.let me know how they taste and if the children liked them.if you were going to place half the fat with apple sauce i suggest you use the juice and pulb of a small orange instead it gives a better flavour with the chocolate than the apple would.ever heard of terryīs chocolate orange?

Low fat margarine? I've never heard of it!

I have heard that you can replace half the fat with applesauce though. I could definitely use some sweetener to replace some of the sugar. (or just cut the sugar.) I could use fewer chocolate chips. I believe the winning cookie had nuts in it. I could replace some of the chocolate chips with nuts for a healthier cookie.

"you can eat a couple yourself then give the rest away to an elderly or ill neighbour."
- Not that my elderly or ill neighbor wants 2 dozen cookies either! (Plus, I do have 3 kids who can help me eat them.)

"you only bake a couple at a time when you are cooking something else " - I like that idea!

Of course, I wouldn't bake only a couple at a time. I'd probably bake a dozen - enough for my husband, kids, and neighbor as well as myself.

However, I do like the idea of not cooking the whole batch at once. Cookies are so much better fresh!

not only could you save money by making your own you could also make it with less calories and fat.using half sweetner instead of all sugar, low fat margerine and a good quality dark chocolate with reduced sugar.if you are afraid you will end up eating them all you have a couple of options.

1,is you can eat a couple yourself then give the rest away to an elderly or ill neighbour.
2,you only bake a couple at a time when you are cooking something else i.e.bread or a chicken etc.and freeze the rest of the dough in a plastic freezer bag till the next time you are using the oven or you have lust.

not are you only saving money and calories you have the smell and taste of freshly baked cookies.in my opinion it canīt be beaten.
sit back and enjoy.

They did another food showdown with chocolate in it this week. This one was for chocolate cookies! A twenty calorie difference in the 2 different cookies.

It seems to me that perhaps I could make my own chocolate chip cookies and save some money, but then I might eat them all!

I think I'm better off with the chocolate yogurt!

By the way, my husband found some delicious frozen yogurt with chocolate chips in it.

We've been having it on Sundays.

Never heard of it. Sorry - I'd try it but have no clue where in Wisconsin you'd find it.

no not the same at all.and chocolate and spegetti is similar to a chocolate rice pudding when you think about it.but like i said i often have the real thing with no guilt attach.the secret is the no guilt when you worked on that you can have your biscuit and eat it so to speak.

Chocolate and spaghetti?

No thanks!

However, I love chocolate yogurt. I haven't had any in awhile. I think I need to buy some more cocoa powder. I don't think we have chocolate options here. However, I used to mix cocoa powder and artificial sweetener in my plain yogurt. I loved it!

Today I had banana and cinnamon yogurt. Not the same at all.

you canīt buy it here in germany but in england you can get chocolate options which is a powdered chocolate drink in differant flavours and they are mixed with hot water to make the drink and come in at 40-45cals a cup.my favorite is the chocolate mint but the orange is also nice.i mix(or should i say,i used to) mix the powder in a lowfat natural yougart for a quick chocolate snack or mix it in quark to make a chocolate dip to stick pieces of fruit in,but when i really needed a chocolate fix i would make a smoothie using the option ,mixed in yougart with some no fat milk and some lowfat chocolate ice cream.low fat choloate ice cream is also nice on itīs own for a chocholate fix.having said that there is nothing to beat the real thing and a little bit of what you fancy does you good so they say.i eat then a good dark cholate.i break the chunks up and then but them in the freezer.when i fancy a piece i then let it melt slowly in the mouth and savor the taste as it is frozen it takes longer to melt and i enjoy ever bit.i donīt ever feel guilty about it as that can end you to break the diet.i count the calorie of the whole bar when i but it in the freezer in my calorie count so when i go to eat a piece i donīt feel guilty because the calories have already been counted.another good one which my middle sone likes is cook up some speggetti in water with a bit of sugar, for me i would use sweetner but not for my son.i then mix it with a cooked chocolate sauce\pudding,for me it is a lowfat version of the choclate sauce.it tends to fill you up more.i donīt like it that much but my son loves it.hope theese help if you need more let me know i am a chocholic.

Today's SP Food Showdown featured chocolate:

Smoothie King Chocolate High Protein Smoothie (20 oz) vs. Planet Smoothie Chocolate Elvis (22 oz)

Smoothie King won with 31 grams of protein (along with 4 grams of fiber)and 401 calories.

The other one has only 13 g. of protein and 522 calories.

I love chocolate!
However, I don't have a Smoothie King near me.

Anyone have any other good alternatives for healthy chocolate?
