It seems that depression runs in our family, as I not only need to find low-income psychiatric services for myself, but my 10 year old son has been assessed and found to have Major Depression and Dysthymic Disorder. He's also on the spectrum with Asperger's. Our Medicaid has yet to be processed through the state health link site. I live in Las Vegas, and will need to find services near Nellis Air Force Base.
I did get a LCSW. He is a riot! makes me laugh , but he has ADHD also. This makes for a trying time! He is a Social Worker & Therapist- I thought that meant he was also a Case Management Worker. Nope! My recent upheaval & having to move out of my sister's house to my Son's home in a different county only had him say-"So you are going to have to ditch me too." I realize that therapists are also human too-but hey, I am not having to move & get new insurance by choice! I need a therapist that is also a case management worker, so what do I specifically look for?

Thank Kris- I have been negotiating through my 2 months/new Health Net. I spend a lot of time on the Internet & phone just to connect with someone! I also like you all's advice about "trying on" a PP like a pair of shoes Great advice!

So I think this is the right spot to write in. I am needing help finding a psychologist I can talk with over the computer (skype or phone). I am not sure where to find one and all my searches end up in a blank since it makes me go through Japanese search engines. Any help would be great :)

Hi msgayle, I agree with PP that finding the right therapist can be just a matter of trial and error, its just a matter of finding someone with a personality that will go well with your own. If you go to www.psychologytoday.com, there is an option to search for a therapist based on cost, insurance accepted, as well as other things like what they specialize in (depression, anxiety, etc.) and what style of therapy they use. Hope this helps!

I tried to access your SparkPage to see if I could learn a little more about you which could help with a more definitive answer, but it is set to 'Private' so was unable to.
If your issues are general, then your Dr will be able to refer you to one, but if they are more specific and in-depth, like for instance an Eating Disorder, there are Therapists who specialize in that. If you particularly don't want a man (or a woman) you can specify that. Where it comes to the Therapist themselves, the only way that we can find if they are a good fit is to try - like shopping for clothes or shoes! Some fit well and others don't, so we try something else. It isn't uncommon to try 2-3-4 Therapists to find that good fit. I was fortunate in that mine were excellent right from the get go!
Wow! I cannot believe nobody has a question! I do want to ask if there is anything in particular I should be sure to remember when searching for a counselor? I am a senior citizen and have never asked for help of any type. I plan to contact my county's senior services center and ask for recommendations for a counselor. Any thought?
