I started taking a magnesium supplement before bedtime recently, and so far I am still up every two hours most nights. If I can get four hours straight and am ecstatic.
However, let me get in a car and I am asleep in no time (which is why I rarely drive any more, and then for only short distances. Weird!
Ask your doctor about whether having a sleep study done would be a possibility. If you have a sleep disorder, sometimes they can treat it.
For a while I took sleeping meds, but I started sleep-eating, and falling asleep standing or sitting up. It just wasn't safe any more.
I am not sure -- does anyone know whether melatonin is available in Canada?
I would love to find a solution to this problem.

Sometimes I have trouble getting to sleep, especially when I am anxious/depressed. I have to stay up until I am SO tired that I can finally sleep. I rarely wake up during the night once I am asleep though.

You probably know you don't want to take sleep aids long term. I have never found them helpful anyway.

One thing you might try is melatonin. It is naturally produced by your brain when it is time to sleep. It can help you to adjust your sleeping patterns and may help you to stay asleep.

I wish you pleasant dreams soon!

I wear a sleep-bra ... that is the eye mask... the royal rugrats call it a sleep-bra and it helps.... and I use my MP3 player and there is a pillow with speakers.. and I listen to george winston music.. it really helps..

my brain is major ADD and that is actually highly related to sleep or inablity to enter the 'drowsy' stage of sleep which is needed to enter sleep....

and sleep is a major issue for me and my depression... the lack of sleep will be a major trigger for me... I let my doctors know immediately NOW that I have learned that lack of sleep will trigger an episode for me.... many blessings.... emoticon

I be careful what I watch on TV before I go to bed...nothing that will get me stirring, like a cop show with chase scenes or whatever. I have to watch something calm.
I do take over the counter sleep aids too. I know I should not take them all the time but I do. Hubby snores so I also wear ear plugs to bed.

Good luck. I hope you find something that will help you. I rarly get a full nights sleep, and I certainly do not nap in the day, or I would really be up all night!!

I had sleep problems and found taking a magnesium supplement daily did away with it. Sleep medication did nothing for me and my friends. Maybe you need to re-adjust your diet and/or take different medication.
