Thanks for sharing that! I've been catching up. 20% bodyfat is in the athlete range for a woman, I believe. Managing the mental/emotional end has got to be so tough as a celebrity.

Thanks for sharing! I was in the same boat as Ali. I'm 5'5", too, and lost so much weight I quit getting my period. Then, I felt bad when I put weight back on, but I was still in a healthy range. Now, I've come to terms with my weight, and I'm happy where I am. I eat healthy most of the time and still have treats (the 90/10 or 80/20 rule). I enjoy being physically active and trying new things. I feel like I've finally found my "happy weight." I still struggle with over-eating at times, but overall I've been a successful maintainer for 5 1/2 years, so I just gotta keep doing the best I can.

Live well, laugh often, love much.

I can totally identify with Ali. I was the first person in my family to take the healthy road and lose 67 pounds. It has been 5 or 6 years since then and some weight has crept back and I always feel like I'm being judged by friends and family. It's a fine line to walk. I know what to do, it's doing it that can cause turmoil. I hope Ali finds her happy medium when it comes to her weight. Me too!!

DIET IS A FOUR LETTER WORD!!!!

We are constantly creating our "karma" or destiny through our intentions, thoughts and deeds in this moment. It is achieved through countless deliberate acts of selflessness.

It's hard to be happy with others if we are not happy with ourselves.

Just keep on moving and you'll get there.

If you ever want to feel good about yourself, go out and help someone else!

Reading the article about Ali, I thought to myself,There but for the grace of God and Sparkpeople go I." It is so easy to gain weight if you just don't pay attention to whether you're active enough and getting the right food , liquid and sleep. Sparkpeople helps me stay conscious of all those good habits I've formed in the last 6 years. We all need to STAY AWARE! emoticon

I don't pay attention to these shows, but from the article, it does seem she does want to conquer this, for herself. Can you imagine what a show of maintainers would look like? emoticon A good week would be..."What will happen this week? Hopefully, more of the same!!!"

I can't even imagine the immense additional pressure that people living in the public eye must face as they try to live up to sometimes unattainable standards of perfection. Sure, they've chosen those lives for themselves, but I don't envy the idea of being under constant scrutiny at every turn and I don't think most people who choose high-profile lives or careers are ever truly prepared for that. But I also agree with NELLJONES--sometimes people do things more for the approval of others than they do for themselves, which doesn't seem to bode well for long-term motivation. Maintenance is often hard for all of us but, as Don said, blogging, sharing and looking deep within ourselves is a big help!

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

We all learn so much from each other's stumbles and successes. I think that is why blogging is so important. Our collective AND individual knowledge and experience grows immeasurably through the process.

Thank you anja for pulling together such invaluable resources and thank you everyone here for being you and SHARING yourselves with the rest of us!

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I had no idea. I did think she looked too thin at the time she won. I wonder how this past season 'winner' is doing...

I find that when I blog on my website www.donnainthekitchen.com I can analyze why I am having problems staying on track. I notice that now Ali is blogging. This is a good thing.

I think people who are willing to do Fame Weight Loss events might be losing it for the fame, not because they really want it. Like you said, 4AHealthyBMI, there is a difference between achievable and sustainable weight, and it looks like Ali lost the weight for the fame, not for herself. Did she take the time to get to know herself, or only her fans? (fans?? really??)

Many people who keep weight off for one reason at one time of life may choose to gain later. Catherine Deneuve comes to mind. She said that at some age a woman has to choose between her face and her body, and she chose her face. Can anyone find fault with that? She is still a beautiful, confident woman. If she wanted to be thinner, she would. She doesn't, yet she is beautiful because of her comfort within her own skin. That comfort doesn't have a number on a scale, it isn't measurable. But you know it when you have it. I feel badly for Ali in that she needs the approval of the millions in order to achieve what she says she wants. It makes me wonder how badly she really wants it.

Ali Vincent won season 5 of The Biggest Loser, and now, five years later, is struggling with maintenance. So if you're feeling discouraged or alone, it might help to know that even high-profile weight losers share the same challenges.

I wonder if the enormous pressure she is putting on herself might have contributed to the 7 lb gain in two months shown in the episode. By the most generous NWCR definition, she's definitely still maintaining (keeping off at lest 10% of the original starting weight), and her doctor says she's in perfectly good health.

This can be a complicated, and messy business, trying to live between our achievable and sustainable weights...
