Glad you're feeling better. Now take it easy - ease back into exercise.

It's good advice to take it easy till you feel better. I've been fighting asthma and bronchitis and tried to keep up my exercise until my husband convinced me to just spend today in bed and using my breathing machine. I'm feeling much better tonight. Rest really is very important when you're sick.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to hold off on making changes until I'm better. I have only burned 1/3 my usual calories working out this week anyway. My doctor's advice nurse said to take it easy for a few days while my body fights this wicked respiratory virus, emoticon

I did the elliptical for 39 minutes anyway - it's vital for my migraine management - I just didn't push as hard as usual.

Boy, a 128 lb body does not burn nearly as many calories in half an hour as a 200 lb body! emoticon

Just don't worry about it until you're better. Nothing's fun when you're sick and this is a fun (and still challenging) part of the process. Get well.

It's hard to start anything new when you are sick, a job, a class, or maintenance. Personally I don't eat much of anything when I'm sick, either upper or lower GI. Just eat the way you've eaten and worry about adding calories when you are feeling better. This is supposed to be a fun adventure, and nothing is fun when you're sick.

Yes, that could do it. If you eat too little and exercise too much. Your metabolism could have slowed down and slowed the losing process. Our bodies are slow to react to the increase in exercise. Linda from bean town

Since getting sick on Saturday, I've lost 6 pounds. And it's just a head/chest bug, not an intestinal bug. That is after losing nothing for two weeks straight. My body is weird! I wonder if I was exercising too much while eating too little therefore making my loss slow down? (Under 1300 on my two rest days and under 1400 on workout days.)

I found I gained weight when I first began bumping up the calories, but later I would lose weight at that same calorie level. It will take you some time to find out what is best for you both short term and long term. I suggest seeing what your weight is doing tomorrow and adjusting accordingly. If you gain a pound or so in a few days to let your body heal, it will only be a temporary thing. Try not to stress about it.

As you won't be doing the standard amount of exercise, I would probably not raise your calories just yet, not until you get back into full exercise mode. I will say that when I broke my toe and couldn't do much exercise, typing in no exercise in spark and letting it tell me my calories, did keep me from gaining. I didn't loose as fast as I was before, which was slow, but I did loose a tad while on very little exercise while my toe healed. So dependent on how spark's calculations worked for you, you could try it. Yes, I know spark's calculations don't work for everyone.

Help!

I need wisdom from maintainers. I need to bump up my calories to transition to maintenance but my doctor's nurse just told me to skip exercise for the next few days. I'm on day 6 of a bad cold and my head/chest congestion is really bad. Is it safe to add 100 calories a day when I'm not able to do my usual workouts? I normally burn 1900 cals per week exercising but this week I have only burned about 700.

I do NOT want to gain weight. But I also don't want to inhibit my body's ability to fight off this bug.
