I still have all my clothes. I just keep them. I am a person that don't like to give stuff away when I know that I should. My hubby and I have a problem all the time.

I see you're in Taiwan, do they have second hand clothes stores there? I'm sure they exist, but maybe not in the breadth and depth we have in the US where we shop so much and yo yo diet so much.

But I do find a lot more clothes at the second hand store fit me now that I'm smaller. I think I will be donating a lot of stuff soon because we want to either rent or sell our house so we need to declutter!

I have four big bags of clothes in sizes 10 - 14 in my basement storage. Some friends have been working on weight loss and I will give them a chance to look through them between now and the end of the year, but at the end of the year, they're all going to a battered women's shelter or other charity that will help women with work clothes so they can get jobs. I won't keep them around, because I have no intention of getting back into them. I am wearing a six now, and am keeping some of my size 8s because I can wear them or get them altered. But the larger things are going!

Very good point to give the clothes to groups that directly pass them on to consumers who need them. In this economy most of us could end up needing to rely on other's generosity at any time. Donate where it won't be turned into corporate profit.

I'm cheap too :) I've also been the one needing donated clothes, so I specifically try to give to where the agency will turn around and donate it locally, not sell it for a couple pennies a pound towards their charity, giving to coat drives, etc.

I have too many clothes and a lot are old. I need to retire them to charity. Many are too big. The size 14 are too big. I will work on my closet again. Linda from bean town

Got rid of them! I kept one dress to remind me of how far I've come and the biggest clothes I've kept are just one size too big. I don't have a lot of money to spend on new clothes, so that means I have a pretty big incentive to stay in the ones I've got. Now I just add a few new pieces in each season and mix them in with what I've already got that's still in good condition. This is the longest I've ever been at approximately the same size, so it's crazy to see that clothes actually get worn out!

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

One of the things about being the same weight for a long time is that fit isn't the only determining factor of keeping or tossing. Just because the jackets with the big shoulder pads fit doesn't mean I should keep them, yet I was accustomed to keeping stuff that fit. I'd only wear one to a costume party, but there it is in all its silk glory. And the velvet suit with the wide lapels and fitted vest. I did get rid of the short skirts, though. I'm too old. They fit, but really?

I think that keeping the stuff gives will allow us to gain the weight back (because after all, we have clothing that fits), and that is not what we want to do. Given that, I plan to go through all of mine and either sell it at a consign shop or donate it. In fact, I have already donated a few bags of clothing. I've considering keeping a few pair of pants for just in case because I have a very difficult time finding pants that fit me correctly, but I am not sure that is a good idea.

I kept one pair of pants from the old days and one top---got rid of all the rest and it was very freeing!!
Replaced all of it by shopping at Goodwill and having a blast rewarding myself with "new to me" treasures. I weed and repeat all the time still :)

I don't have anything that really falls off and I wish I did have at least one thing from my XXL days for comparison ... but I do have a few favorite things that are slightly big. My rule is ... when I put it on - if it doesn't make me feel great - OUT IT GOES.

I am giving away the really big stuff that falls off. Keeping the next size up of some favorite pants and shorts, good for taking walks or wearing around the house. Giving everything I won't wear to Goodwill. I really understand the cheap part. I am keeping some pants I really like even though they are big.

I got rid of all the big stuff - gave to charity. My feeling is if I keep them then I'm giving myself permission to gain weight again. I CANNOT do that! I've gone up and down over the years and never got rid of the old bigger clothing - always managed to fit into them again. But not this time. Out they go.

I agree with giving away and buying clothes second hand. You get a better selection, much lower prices and more fun. The range goes from thrift store all the way up to designer consignment stores. New is almost always made in China and cheap unless you have a LOT of money. I keep one size up for pants and tops to wear in winter for layering, nothing else.
I also one pair of jeans from 10 years ago that are a size 8 and a little tighter than the size 4 I own now, typical size inflation. I guess men's sizes, based on inches, must have stayed the same.

Clothes you really love can be altered, but you have to decide it's worth the expense. Clothes you give to charity are not discarded, but made available to grateful women for whom they fit. The joy of finding clothes that fit occurs at Goodwill, too.

i gave a lot of my stuff away to charities or to friends that i knew could use them. I did keep one pair of pants just to remind me of how much i lost and also to remind me of how big i had become. I was lucky that i had a friend who loves clothes to the excess and we now wear the same size clothes and so she has pretty well replenished my closets for me. When she buys something new I get a outfit out of her closet.

I got rid of all of my really big clothes. Kept a few pieces of my favorite pieces just because they were my favorites. Little by little though, I'll keep trying them on and realize just how bad they really look on me now and as I find someone who will really appreciate them, I give them away too.

The stuff that really doesn't fit, get rid of. If it fits but isn't flattering, ie a bit looser than what one should wear, I would keep until I had some replacements. IE I tried to get rid of mine a tad slowly, as to replace it a bit more slowly, so I could see things on sale or this or that I liked, etc.

As soon as my jeans or slacks or skirts literally fell off, I got rid of them. Bought new ones as a reward.

Who needs that reminder, right? Plus if you ever do fit in them again, it'll happen slowly and those old clothes will be out of style.

Donate to friends or some charity that can get the items to people who really need new things, or to a charity that sells things and uses the money to do something you believe in. (Our animal shelter has a weekly rummage sale, uses the $ to feed the animals. We donated there a bunch!

I have been at/below my goal weight for almost 11 months. Very exciting. A lot of my clothes are too big. I have some clothes that fit, but hang.

Two factors keep me from dumping my clothes.
1) what if I gain weight
2) I am a cheap SOB

What do you guys think? Is it a freeing thing to dump out the old. How long did others wait?

Please comment on this or my repost this to my blog section.
