My problem with restaurant salads is the price. I can make a better salad at home for a small fraction of what I'd pay at a restaurant. I'm cheap.

Wow, lately everything has been a weakness because I've had a cold, threw walking out the window, and then felt like I needed to pamper myself. Sigh. Now that I'm feeling better, I'm feeling stronger, though.

Normally:

Strengths: This is weird, I know, but chocolate and candy just don't crank my handle.
Weaknesses: I'm with Tim. Put a pizza in front of me, and it's gone.
Growth areas: Eating out and eating reasonably. My default is a salad, no dressing, grilled shrimp. Enough of a treat!

Eating out is really difficult. We have one small restaurant that's only open for lunch that has a very small menu and makes everything when it is ordered. They're pretty good about what they do with the food, but you still have to be careful when ordering

I read a story online about a couple who was really fat, he weighed about 550. she weighed over 350. He went to the emergency room for something, and they couldn't properly diagnose him because of his weight, so just sent him home with antibiotics, nothing else they could do. It got their attention, so they embarked on a program, and two years later he was down to about 220, she was down to 165. They said they did the usual diet and exercise thing, but primarily they didn't eat out. She said she could count on the fingers of two hands the times they had eaten out in 2 years. I'm with them. If you could see how cooks in restaurant kitchens work, you'd never eat out again. It isn't just the portion sizes (which are like 5X normal size), but the cook just dumps oil in a pan before cooking, and splashes fat on top for gloss before sending it to the table. Looks and tastes great, but I don't want the invisible calories. I know a lot of restaurants publish calorie counts, and that would be fine in manufactured food where each component is measured by machine, but in a restaurant where a stressed out low level cook is trying to keep up with the demand, I don't trust him to add the one tablespoon of oil listed in the instructions. It's an estimate and always more because it's easier to cook it that way.

A strength would be something I never overeat? eggplant or okra (ha)
Weakness? I don't keep candy in the house, except a bar or two of very high quality dark chocolate. Any type of simple carbohydrate will cause me to want to eat and eat. I can mostly derail that right now because I am in a really good motivated place.
Growth area? I really need to eat out less. Find some other way to see my friends.

My strengths: Fatty foods, like french fries. I eat one off my hubby's plate and one off my son's plate and I am done. salty foods, as the salt helps me to not eat too much. But I have to measure my chips and walk away, or I would eat more.

Weakness: ice cream, Panera bread cookies (I volunteer at a food pantry, and we receive Panera bread products for distributing, but the sweet stuff is in a huge box of crumbs. It is hard to clean it up for distributing to clients, so I take home some crumbs somewhat regularly and oh, my gosh, do I love their peanut butter cookies.) Chocolate. (Even though when it comes to chocolate candy bars, they don't call my name as much as the Panera cookies or the ice cream.)

Strength (no temptation) - Pizza, beer
Weakness (High temptation) - Cheese!
Growth area (controlled temptation) - Potato chips

Pizza is by choice -- beer is by necessity (I can't drink carbonated beverages except maybe a small glass of sparkling wine).

Besides beer, potato chips (especially the kettle cooked ones) were a big problem. My solution -- measure out an ounce of them, plus baked vs oil cooked.

Even though cheese is still a major weakness, measuring out how much I eat has helped. But it is the one food that I can just go to the refrigerator and want to grab some. Cheese sticks help!

Good topic!

It changes over time.

Weak: Cheetos and Reeses, which is why I have had neither for many many years. I apply that to anything that MAY fall in that category: milk chocolate and snack foods. I just don't eat them.

Don't know: Doughnuts, carrot cake.

I don't eat most foods that I don't know about. I rigidly control portions, and if it's hard to stop at my portion, why even try? Who needs the grief?

I make all my own food, so the effort involved acts as a check. I love deep fried food, but deep frying is so much work (prepping and cleaning up) that I only do it about once a year, and that's for company. Cooking for company is also a check: it's so much work I don't eat much.

Strength: anything high-fat or high-protein that is not sweet, even salty stuff
Weakness: anything high-carb (boh sweet and starchy) as it all triggers food cravings for sweet thing
Growth area: caffeine; usually I just drink decaf, occasionally I will have one cup of regular when I really need to be awake, but I need to make sure that I immediately go back to decaf after that. Also very dark chocolate, I can usually have just an ounce, but occasionally it's tempting to have too much.

I know that there are certain things I have trouble controlling myself with, and some that others find difficult to walk by that I can walk by without a second thought. And some areas where my portioning control has grown.

I Thought it would be fun to share and listen from others where they have grown and still struggle.

Strength (no temptation) - noodles/rice/potatoes
Weakness (High temptation) - pizza (geesh I love that stuff)
Growth area (controlled temptation) - Candy, I can now eat a couple pieces and by happy and enjoy it.
