You can track your weight wherever you want, but to be part of this challenge you'll need to log your weight once a week on the google form.

emoticon

Someday maybe SP will integrate this kind of challenge into their infrastructure. Who knows?

But because that option isn't available to us now, we have to build our own tools, and this challenge uses the google forms.

Here's how I make sure I've got the weekly link when I need it:

1) I set up a weekly reminder to log my weight using the Spark People planner. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/planner.asp

2) In the "optional comments" box I put the weigh-in link: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?users

Just signed up. I have had a really hard summer - ever since my last trip to Texas. I signed up at my goal weight of 137. Right now I am outside of the 3% mark. Hopefully this challenge will be the motivation I need to get back on track and get back into maintenance range.

Thanks, Kevin!

I went ahead and signed up.

Another stupid question: will we be logging our weekly weight right on the spreadsheet? It sounds that way from the Thanks page, which says we HAVE to back up our posts in this thread (where this thread only SUGGESTS we do).

I've saved the link to the spreadsheet, for just in case. :-)

Since some people seem to have missed the original first post, here it is, again.

Specifically, if you want to join the challenge, you have to go to the link and sign up on the Google form.

You have until Monday, October 15 midnight Eastern to sign up for this challenge.

SIGN UP AT THIS LINK
docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?users
toinvite=rose5658%40gmail.com&formkey=
dGt2cTRxM28xaG5UdzBxQ2dDRmIxZEE6MA#gid=0

As we head into Food Season (Halloween through Valentine's Day) let's stick with it through Halloween and US Thanksgiving!

We will record our weights once a week for 6 weeks (through November 26) . You can use any method for calculating your weight that you like, as long as it is consistent. (For example, you can use the weighted moving average from PhysicsDiet.com)

The title of Thankful Maintainer will go to the person who has the smallest average deviation from the weight in the center of your range over the course of the challenge. Your percent deviation from this central weight (up or down) will be calculated every week and then averaged over all the weeks.

RULES:

1. Post your weight every week no later than midnight Eastern Time, Monday, RIGHT HERE.
docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?users
toinvite=rose5658%40gmail.com&formkey=
dGt2cTRxM28xaG5UdzBxQ2dDRmIxZEE6MA#gid=0

2. As a backup, you can post your weight to the thread for discussing the the challenge:
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messagebo
ard_thread.asp?board=681x1111x50310132

(you can also chat about the challenge there)

3. You can post your weekly weight anytime during the week, but it must be no later than midnight EST on Monday. There will be no late weigh-ins. This means if you post at or after 12:01am Eastern Time on Tuesday, you are OUT of the challenge and your name will no longer show up in the logging form. If you need email reminders to log your weight, you can set them up using the Spark People planner. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/planner.asp

4. If you stray more than 3% above or below your chosen central weight, you are OUT of the running for the title of Thankful Maintainer.
(But keep logging for a consolation prize - we'll track whether you got back within range, and calculate your average deviation at the end.)

5. If you stay within the +/- 3% range, you stay IN for the title of Thankful Maintainer.

Never, ever, EVER give up!

From BMI 53 (336 lbs) to under 30. Now aiming for less than 20% body fat.

I struggled last challenge to stay high enough to stay in my 3% range. I am setting my goal lower this time, and plan to use a weekly average instead of weighing each Monday. I just hope that I can maintain this with my crazy schedule!

Signed up, adjusting my center back to my normal center of range of 122. Turns out I would have been safe using that for the Columbus Day challenge, but I was at the lower end when I started and used 121, which ALMOST got me into trouble.

SO... NORMAL center maintenance for this one! emoticon

I'm signed up, with a slight adjustment to my goal weight. We'll see how well I predicted what weight I'm going to maintain.

@LARRI2010: No, you don't have to pick your current weight. The first one of these I signed up for, I picked 170 (weighing 174 at the time, but expecting to go down a little.) By the time the challenge started, I was at 168; I finished that challenge somewhere around 165 and just barely squeaked in less than 3% below what I said by the end of the challenge. I started using average weight for that challenge because it made my loss lag for reporting, and helped me stay in the 3% range.

A year later, having found a stable weight range, it's a lot easier; but the early challenges I entered were helpful. The highlighted the fact that my weight was still trending down when I was trying to maintain, and made me feel better about upward adjustments to my calorie range.

I'm confused (again - it doesn't take much): In reading the rules, it looks as if we post our starting weight (say 130) and we cannot deviate more than 3% from that weight or we are out. From the discussion (from people who have presumably done this before) we can set a target weight (say 125), and then we aim to be within 3% of that.

In looking at the sign-up page, we do set a target weight. And it doesn't need to be what we weight today?

Oh YAY!!! I've been watching and waiting for the next Maintainer Challenge after dropping out of the Columbus Day Challenge when my weight put me out of range....it's a shame that I did as I DID make it back down by the end of the challenge - lesson learned! It's never too late!!!!

Thank you 4AHEALTHYBMI for keeping these challenges going!

I'm in. I had put on 6lbs during last winter/spring running season and training and running my full marathon in April. I've been able to take that off and would love to stay where I am through the holidays (or maybe lose a couple of pounds....but I'm okay with staying the same for now). Accountability is huge for me. If I know I'm going to have to post my weight, I'm more likely to pass on some goodies, or run an extra mile or two. LOL!

I'm going to try again!! I think it is a great challenge. So far I've never remembered to post regularly even when I have been maintaining, and I've been weighing in over my range more days than not recently. Nonetheless, I'm going to try. May be good brain exercise to try to remember!!

The first weigh-in deadline is the 22nd, correct!

It's all about accountability. As long as you check in at least once per week, then we'll keep calculating your stats and your name will continue to show up on the check-in list.

If you start outside of your range and work into it, that's just fine - I've done that plenty of times, myself while beating off a recent gain. LOL

For those of you looking to compete in losing weight, there are LOTS of challenges about that all over Spark People. :-)

This time I'll try to maintain 62 kg, as this is what I have been maintaining actually in the past months. I had difficulty maintaining 61 kg in the last two challenges: I went above range in July and stayed inside with few grams only in the Columbus Day challenge.
I'll post weekly averages, as always.
Thanks for organizing this new challenge, 4A-HEALTHY-BMI!
Good luck to everybody!

KAYOTIC: So with a moving average, I would weight myself each day and take the average for the week? Sounds tempting, as I know my weight can fluctuate due to water and whatnot. But...it seems less stressful to weigh myself once a week and go with that, then I don't see the pound or two fluctuations each day that drive us all crazy.

Truly glad for this holiday challenge! I put my central weight a couple of pounds below my "maintenance" weight so I go into the holidays with an edge.

Signed up, I think the first weigh in is on the 22nd, since the 15th is the last sign up date.

The moving average still requires weighing in, it just averages out your daily weights to take the water fluctuations out (for the most part). I use weight tracker for mine, it's pretty easy to use, and I could sign up with my google account.

highest weight ever:202, SP starting weight: 143

New goal: 125 lbs, just to see what that looks and feels like! Hit it: Feb 2013!

You need to join physicsdiet.com (free). TIP: I finally figured out that it works MUCH better on IE than on Firefox.

For the last year my body measurements for my waist and hips have been the same. But my upper body and legs have gain and my clothes fit fine. but I have gain weight without the flab. I can't lose any weight. So the challenge is on to discover and fine tune to change what I am doing and eating to keep me within 5 lbs of my everyday weight.

I plan to lose at least some weight between now and the Holidays. This sounds much like a challenge we'll be doing at work, only there we can lose, but we can't gain more than 4 lbs. to "win."

Weighted moving average? That's a way to weigh ourselves without a scale? I've looked on physicsdiet.com/ but can't find anything about it. Then again, I'm not a member there, so maybe that's why I can't find anything. (I've found "moving average" explained on Wikipedia, and I'm thoroughly confused. Statistics is not my thing.

Okay, my actual long-term goal is 119, but I don't expect to reach it until December 4th, so I've set my goal for the challenge at my next best goal: 121.5. Is that okay?

Ok, so we sign up by the 15th, but the first weigh-in deadline is the 22nd, correct?

I had to lower my goal over the last year or so of challenges because that's just where I've been.

I am loving these challenges, and they will become crucial once the Christmas cookies are made!

Just a quick question since this is the first challenge I'm participating in with the team. I've already signed up. Should I also post my first weigh in before October 15?

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

Well, I won't be going for a win as I have about 5% I want GONE by the end of the year but I'm in on accountability. Looking for anything to help.

Totally.

It's all about accountability. Obviously you won't be trying to win the title of person with the most consistent weight (since you want it to go down), but just keep posting your weight every week, anyway!

Several times I've started outside my range and worked to get my weight back INSIDE my happy range by the end of the challenge. In fact, that's exactly what's going to happen this time. LOL (started sliding a few weeks ago. ugh)

Is there a way to join this challenge even if we want to lose some weight? For example, I gained 10# and would like to get down to 160 again.

You have until Monday, October 15 midnight Eastern to sign up for this challenge.

SIGN UP HERE

RULES:

1. Post your weight every week no later than midnight Eastern Time, Monday, RIGHT HERE.
docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?users
toinvite=rose5658%40gmail.com&formkey=
dGt2cTRxM28xaG5UdzBxQ2dDRmIxZEE6MA#gid=0
