Right back atcha, SANDICANE. I haven't binged to the point of illness for a year, now.

This is a big thing for me, given where I was at, when I first reached goal...

I still do overeat, but not as much as I used to.

I'll be even happier once I'm 1) back under my "scream weight" and 2) back within my "happy range" +/- 3% around 150. (Things slid this spring and I'm clawing my way back to where I want to be.)

Never, ever, EVER give up!

From BMI 53 (336 lbs) to under 30. Now aiming for less than 20% body fat.

I absolutely love the idea of focusing on what's great about maintaining instead of how hard it is to maintain.

And to be more specific: I love

1. Knowing that I'm doing everything within my power to prevent recurrence of breast cancer;

2. Feeling strong, both physically and mentally. I am (frankly) proud of the self-discipline it took to lose the weight and to keep the weight off . . . I am proud that I look like the self-disciplined person I am (and really always was, in other areas of my life . . . now this one too);

3. Enjoying my DH"s heartfelt appreciation of the results of these efforts;

4. Just plain ol' looking as good as it's possible to look, for me right here right now: the vanity factor, yup!! (indulged with pretty clothes, trying on pretty clothes that I have no intention of buying . . . )

5. That there are now, over 10 years post "big weight loss", lots of people who never even knew me when I was fat!! So nice to be just normal!!

1) I'm internally very competitive and often set expectations for myself that are much higher than other people would, so I'd say the #1 thing for me is feeling like I'm actually accomplishing what I've set out to do--that I didn't just reach goal and give up but that I'm still going strong and am within range after more than six months
2) Feeling so much younger and having a lot more energy. At 33 and 240 pounds, I was already starting to feel like an old lady when I started my weight loss journey. Not any more!
3) Trying on clothes and actually liking the way the vast majority of them fit
4) Being more willing to experiment with fashion rather than just sticking to clothes that will make me blend into the background
5) Feeling much more confident and not worrying if I'm going to fit in a seat, or worse, break it
6) Being able to lift heavy weights, run long distances and just generally being able to do lots of physical things that I wasn't able to do before
7) Enjoying my indulgences a lot more than I did when I was overweight because I know I've got the tools and motivation to balance them out with my otherwise healthy lifestyle
7) Knowing that I've greatly reduced my chances of preventable disease

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

I used to love being able to eat and exercise according to a plan that I liked, and maintain at a lower weight than I'm at now. I've had to adjust, though, and am struggling to lose two more freakin' pounds to be at the middle of my range. So, at the moment, I'm not loving it so much. (Sorry. Cranky morning here!)

Also, I love maintaining with company. It’s easier with support.

My top three:

1. I love that every single piece of clothing I own will fit me. (Some may be too big but if I want I can tailor them to fit--it can always be taken in or, if not, I can donate).
2. I love that I save money by not having to buy new clothes, I can wear the old ones, the cute things I would buy when I felt good about how I looked when I bought them. 25 lbs had separated me from those nice things (some of which I had altered to fit when my weight was low). I can now wear those clothes without the uncomfortable tightness.
3. I love feeling pride in having some control over my health --knowing that I am doing the best I can to be healthy and happy, avoiding unnecessary health care costs associated with lugging around the extra weight. There's that Bible verse that tells me my body is a temple and I think my accomplishment makes God smile, too, because I know He loves me and wants the best for me. Feeling pride instead of guilt is a good thing.

Honestly, going to have to think about this one. Because lately, I have been having some second thoughts. Been a tad heavier and other than cutting out the tiny bites, licks and such, to tracking honestly again, haven't really done anything about it. Having a hard time figuring out why I should. This may help remind me.

1. Things are just EASIER without the extra weight to drag about.

2. I have CHOICES about how I get to and from places, and they don't always include a motor vehicle!

3. Bottom line... I FEEL good.

The same behaviors that make me feel good that keep me fit and maintaining the weight.

6. I can splurge and recover. I enjoy my splurges so much more than I enjoyed the same things pre-weight loss.

We spend a lot of time talking about challenges of maintenance (and there sure are a lot of them). But an important aspect of keeping the weight off is revisiting WHY we want to stay at this size / level of fitness. Because without that "why" the "how" can sometimes feel burdensome.

So, let's take a moment and revel in the REWARDS of maintaining. This isn't so much about "why I'm so glad I'm no longer fat," but rather about "why it feels so good to be at this nice consistent size / strength / flexibility, etc."

I'll start us off with some of the things I like most:

1) I can wear my favorite clothes whenever I want - no more checking anxiously whether they still fit or not.

2) I have the flexibility and strength to kayak better than ever before - and can just focus on building those attributes.

3) I like how I look in the mirror and I now can expect that, rather than cringing or trying to avoid my reflection. I'm no longer anxiously hoping to look "smaller" like I did when my weight fluctuated. And the same is true with photographs.

4) I can eat more than I did while losing. Not a lot more, but a little more, and it's nice.

5) I don't have to keep 2-3 sizes of clothes in my closet, "waiting" until I fit in them again (on the way up or down). The "fat" clothes have been donated, and the only stuff that is in there fits me.

6) I'm just plain comfortable in my own skin, in a way I never was before.

7) I get a sense of accomplishment when I look at my fitness records and see how long I've already maintained. Beating those awful odds just feels good. Period. :-)

What do you guys enjoy about maintaining?
