I don't like to exercise on my own, I usually go to a class at the gym. I put those scheduled class times in my calendar. As I'm faced with the deadlines and emergencies I ask myself how important are those deadlines and if they can wait for that extra hour and have to try to fit another time in somewhere else.

I squeeze in exercise all the time - there are tricks listed here (park far away, jog a few minutes each hour, etc.)

Other ideas - take the stairs up and down at work or wherever you go

Have walking meetings

Walk or do other cardio at lunch

Deliver papers, messages, or whatever yourself - walk around handing out papers, telling people about meetings, gathering info - I used to get in a 30 minute walk by doing that versus calling or emailing!

March in place while making a meal and while cleaning up (I can even do squats while washing dishes - takes practice, but you can do this)

Squeeze in ST and cardio while showering (squats and calf raises, wall pushups, etc in the shower) - march in place while brushing teeth, blow drying hair, etc

Hope that helps!

I have totally gotten away from exercising regularly too. I am joining a couch to 5k program I've done before. They have programs for runners and walkers. I found that the scheduled workouts and the structure are what keeps me going. If you can sign up for some kind of class, or get a workout buddy to whom you are accountable, it might help. With this group, if you aren't there, the other members ask where you were. It makes you feel missed and you want to go so as not to disappoint the others. It's really cool. Not to mention what it did for my body... check out my sparkpage to see the pic of me in my running outfit/running bra. I definitely want to look like that again-- I'm up 6 pounds, soon to be gone.

Don't know the nature of your busy days, Bayleight, but if it's cleaning, SP has a cardio entry for that.

Get out of bed a few minutes early.
Stretch
Go to the kitchen and make coffee
Do 2 sets of 1 minute jumping jacks while the coffee is brewing
(that's only 2 minutes of cardio) so do 2 sets of wall pushups and then the coffee should be ready
If you have stairs do a few minutes of jogging up and down them. If not, jog in place
By now you should be very psyched to keep your cardio going

I WISH I knew the answer to this question. Work has been hectic lately, and my workouts have totally gone down the drain (which means that my back is starting to hurt again). I've tried to do only part of my workout (which is pretty gentle) to ease back into the routine, but that doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm going to just have to bite the bullet and say that I am important enought to get that pre-work exercise in instead of going to the office early!

Get up 10-15 mins earlier so that you can do a bit of cardio? Or find other ways of fitting in a minute or two here and there? You might not be able to do your regular workout but it might be possible to keep moving.

I suggest having a minimum amount of time you work out, say just ten minutes, but do a vigorous one until you can work in something longer. Sometimes if you do a minimum, you get inspired to make time for more even. (Although it's too bad our lives often don't include functional exercise. The weather has been very hot here, but when it's better, I'm going to experiment with parking several blocks from work and possibly over time extending it farther away until I get my time in. Maybe you could work out something similar. emoticon

I had an awfully busy weekend and did not find the time to work out for a few days and I know these next few days will have me crunched for time as well. Does anybody have any advice on how to make busy days still work out days? Or maybe some motivation to help me get out of this rut?
