Today I had 3 baskets of peaches, 2 packages of whole wheat cinnamon raisin English muffins, and 2 bottles of Diet Pepsi (great sale). I will have to freeze most of the peaches in a couple of days when they ripen all the way.

I had to wander into the interior of the store today. I needed masa harina and pasta.

Do any of you have Wegman's in your areas? It is the most amazing store! Every trip is like a little vacation. All their literature lists how to make things from scratch, as well as semi-prepared or fully prepared.

What wise shoppers you are!! Good reminder to shop the outside edges of the stores -- the processed stuff is mostly in the middle!!

My cart had a bag of salad greens, a bag of baby spinach, a bag of broccoli slaw, Greek yogurt, packages of tuna and salmon, and one bar of dark chocolate with orange. Gotta have my treat!

What a fun idea! Some people check out what other people wear or drive, I like to decipher other people's grocery carts.

I don't buy many processed foods (which is why I only seem to be able to find or use coupons which are always for processed food). I get the tortillas, too, because I am not always in the mood to make them. I grind my own meat and make my own ice cream, both of which are easy with modern appliances. I buy fresh veggies mostly in the summer; out of season produce is actually more nutritious frozen than transported to a different hemisphere. It's summer now so my cart is loaded! I buy plain yogurt and add my own Splenda. I do buy bread from the bakery. When I bake my own it's hard not to eat the entire loaf.

I shop to a list, but sometimes I see something intriguing and want to buy it, especially in the ethnic grocery stores. The glory of a smartphone is that now I can find a recipe while standing in the store, and make sure I have all the ingredients I need before I leave.

You can tell a lot about a person from his book collection and his grocery cart.

Let's keep one another accountable by sharing our shopping carts ... was yours loaded with "REAL" foods? How many fruits and veggies? How many processed foods?

I was excited to realize as I put items onto the conveyor belt today to see that I had only a few processed items - whole wheat/high fiber tortillas, catsup (but I got the all natural, no-high fructose corn syrup brand), light yogurt, sugar free popsicles, and Skinny Cow Chocolate Truffle bars (those 2 things are my low cal, low fat indulgences on hot summer days). I had ground turkey (italian seasoned), cantaloupe, spinach & salad greens, light string cheese, broccoli, almonds, pine nuts, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, and broccoli slaw. Almost everything went into the fridge -- very few things into the pantry. Making wise choices this week will be easier with all the fresh choices!!
