I refuse to use artificial sweeteners. I used to use them, but when studies showed the link to metabolic syndrome, I stopped. I stopped mostly for my husband who was "addicted" to diet Cola. I hated diet cola, so that was never my problem.
I actually use REAL SUGAR and HONEY!!! Yes, the real stuff. But I only put on one level teaspoon of organic light brown sugar on my (Ezekiel) sprouted grain cereal when I eat it. I also use some organic fruit spreads instead of syrup on my buckwheat pancakes or sprouted grain toast with (you guessed it) organic peanut butter. No sugar bump and I ingest such a small amount of this type of item that I have no reason not to enjoy it. As far as honey goes, I will sometimes put a teaspoon's worth in hot tea.

Mostly I just enjoy natural sugars in real fruit. Never liked Splenda, Stevia was awful and the others tasted ok, but just weren't to my liking for the health implications. I am an avid label reader, so no hidden sweeteners pass my lips either.

I realize I got very lax on fresh and dried fruits. Between that and whey protein (I mix it in plain yogurt, oatmeal, low-fat cream cheese to keep my protein where it should be for weightlifting) that I don't get sweet cravings much.

I used to use splenda regularly, until I also realize it just made me want more sugar.

Hope the challenge is working for you!

Best,
Russ Lane

I don't mind using splenda now and then. But I just bought some stevia (it's a little pricey, but a little goes a long way) It doesn't taste too bad...

A good all natural, 0 calorie sweetener, Stevia. You can find it at GNC or Whole Foods. Works to sweeten beverages or to sprinkle on whatever.

Hope you are feeling better. Welcome back Georgia.

ok, so I thought it sounded suspect, but I have cut back on sweets that use artificial and I don't crave like I used to. I think the ice cream was killing me. The more I ate, the more I wanted.
