I'm just starting out, but so far I've been amazed at the new found feeling of well-being that I'm experiencing.
For me this journey will be a difficult one, given that I'm a recovering anorexic and also battling exercise addiction.
However long the journey into physical and spiritual well- being it's a journey I'm determined to see through!

Please read my ticker backwards as I am trying to gain weight.

I like Rodney Yee. I think his combination of explanation and example. After a few viewings of the videos, you can easily do the sequences by listening. His AM yoga and Yoga Burn.

I have used everything from private classes, to group classes to DVD's to YouTube. Now through some recent private lessons, I have a personal sequence that I do at home 6 days a week. One day a week I go to a yin class.
I've been practicing about 6 years... the last 3 as an RYT (registered yoga teacher). I am taking training this month to learn how to develop personal sequences for clients.

Lost 65 lbs and maintained since 2006.

I was overjoyed to read your responses, and It made me even more excited about yoga and its benefits. Do you guys use videos, or self practice? How long have you been practicing?

Yoga has such a great appeal and lasting power with people because of all the reasons listed by various members here. Do you realize how many of us love the peace and serenity we gain from our practice?

I can do it anywhere, in any weather, requires little space, no need for equipments, no special outfits (just loose pants and a T-shirt will do). Sometimes when I visited some conservative relatives, I was forced to wear only long gypsy skirts and couldn't risk getting caught in pants. So I simply tucked the front hem of the skirt into the waist-band at the back, made it look like baggy pants - and did my Surya Namaskar in the wee hours of the morning. emoticon

I love yoga because it is something that I can actually do (not being so athletic this is quite a feat) but more than that it is a great challenge that makes me feel calm, strong, and tall. :)

The mindful peace is nice; but I also find that it's one of several things I have to do to keep my back spams in control. So, the lessening of pain in my back is a big reason :)

I initially continued practicing yoga because it has been the only physical activity that I have ever wanted to repeat.
I continue to practice now because I cannot imagine my life without my practice .... the knowledge of my body I have acquired, the peace of mind that follows practice, the stillness that I find on occasion and the connection with myself and life I have found.

I discovered yoga a while ago, and I find that it gives me such a peacefulness that I am determined to make it a part of my life forever. Why do you practice yoga? Why do you love it?
