Whats some other good ideas and healthy for thanksgivng?? My Husband and Father make thanksgiving dinner and I help a little. But I also want some good choices..

Hi FAT_BEGONE, here's a recipe for Old-Fashioned Biscuits

2-cups unbleached or all-purpose flour
1-tbsp baking powder
2-tsp sugar
2-tsp salt
2-tbsp sweet butter, chilled
2-tbsp vegetable shortening, chilled
1-cup fat-free evaporated milk


Directions

Preheat the oven to 425 F. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Cut the butter and shortening into the flour mixture. Stir in the milk, and turn onto a lightly floured board to gently knead 10 times. Roll the dough out to 1/4" thickness and, with a biscuit cutter, cut into 2" rounds. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet for 20 minutes, until golden brown. Makes 12 biscuits.

This year I will actually be the one cooking dinner but just for my immediate family, so I can adjust the meal however I like :). I am interested in the sneaky cookbook of sneaking in veggies for regular meals for kids, so i will be adding come sweet potato to mac & cheese and also to my desert I make. I will also find a way to make my sweet potato casserole less casserole and more sweet potato :)

I plan on tweaking my by dressing(stuffing). Does anyone know how to make homemade biscuits without lard/Crisco?

I am making one meal for me and one for the relatives. I will have plain turkey, sweet potato, green beans and fruit. I will also make some cinamon crisp in the spark recipe for everyone. My kids love them. I am determined not to cheat and have stuck to it for 9 weeks so far. Hope everyone is doing good. Karen

great topic. This may sound unaccoustom thing to do at Thanksgiving but I will eat standing thus feeling fuller and eating less.

For those in the states who celebrate Thanksgiving, it's never to early to start planning for a healthy holiday. This challenge is to find ways to trim the calories from your traditional family feast and to share your ideas with the team.

Here's what I'm doing:

I will substitute whole grain bread for my stuffing in addition to the apples, onions & celery I normally put in I will also add cranberries and walnuts.

I'm also trying a recipe for mashed potato shared by someone on another team. "skinny mashed potatoes", The potatoes are cooked in chicken broth; no butter or cream.

How will you spark your holiday?????
