I put lots of fruit in the vitamix with a little honey and went to town. I liked it but I think it was too thick for my daughter. Will change the fruits and add more water/ice and see what happens. Gotta find the right combination

See if you can get them to drink low sodium v8 with their breakfast. Also, there is a new product out there called Fruitabu...it is a fruit leather, kind of like fruit rollups, but it is PURE FRUIT!!!!! no added sugar. It comes in several flavors. Even my teenage daughter who is a runner loves to eat it prior to her races. I am having more trouble getting them to accept a variety of veggies. My youngest is the only one besides me with a weight problem and I can't seem to get her to eat more than a couple different veggies.

short and mid-term goal:
stay consistent and keep losing weight.
long-term goal:
feel better about myself and not have weight be something I think about on a daily basis.

Is anyone else working on fruits & veggies for the whole family right now? I have the problem of them eating school lunch. They usually like fruits & veggies, but the only choices at lunch are usually canned mixed veggies, peas, beans or corn. Of these they will only eat the canned corn. THey won't take a lunch (teen agers emoticon ) They will eat a fruit or juice for breakfast, and we have veggies for dinner, but they sometimes only get 2-3 servings total a day. Right now we are working on snacks to get more in.

I do quarter and remove the peel on apples and oranges so the pulp is minimal.Grapes make a good amount of juice and pineapple and I can sneek a carrot 1 flowerette of broccoli or cucumber. It is thick so I have to mixed it with a tropical punch flavored bottled water. Completely chilled is a must as well.He wasn't willing at first because of his no fruit policy but it came down to the choice either drink the juice or actually eat fruit. But since he has put a little more effort in eatting apples and grapes. And he has eat some on a fruit salad.

My son will only eat bananas and canned del monte peaches. No veggies. So I bought a juicer. Had some luck with it. The kicker is I don't think taste is as big of an issue as it is texture in his mouth on his teeth.

My kids love "veggie cakes"

You take pancake batter and add finely chopped veggies of your choice (I use squash, zucchini, shredded carrots and green peppers) and cheese (I use fat free cheese).

You cook it just like a pancake and serve it with something to dip like ketchup or salsa. My kids like them with sour cream and salsa.

Great challenge! I have a goal of eating 3 fruits a day, which isn't as easy as it sounds - I love fruit, but its hard to keep enough on hand for the whole family to get enough.

I use frozen fruit in smoothies and my daughter will always eat a sliced apple if I put it in her lunch. I think cantelope is a good lunch fruit too. I, on the other hand, have to have fruit that's not easily bruised to tote to work.

Don't forget about dried fruit, homemade fruit crisp, berries & yogurt parfait, freeze grapes for a snack. My daughter got a kick out of frozen pineapple and peaches used as ice cubes for her water, especially sparkling water.

Does anyone have success with playing up the colors, eat the rainbow etc. for getting little ones to eat veggies? All yellow dinner = chicken, squash, yellow rice, red white and blue = yogurt+blue+red berries or red beans, rice, and grapes.

nik - i just read that jerry seinfeld's wife (rebecca?) is putting out a cookbook about sneaking veggies into food - all via purees. comes out in september, i think. sorry it's vague, but it was in a mag i read at the dentist's office! i am blessed w/ one child who loves veggies and one who will eat huge amounts of certain ones, so my challenge is more getting them to branch out. i put finely chopped ones into rice or couscous pilaf; purees into meatloaf (don't forget it'll provide extra liquid) and into some quickbread baking (again, account for extra liquid). in general we don't worry too much if DS goes "off" veggies occasionally - he loves fruit, but i also just keep offering, and he does eventually come around. my feeling about "sneaking" is that that way he's not learning to love the vegetable - he's just being tricked into eating it, so there's no education of the palate or lifestyle to be seen/felt.... don't forget, you may have to offer tastes of something new for something like 14 times before some kids will eat it. i know - it's a lot of rejection, isn't it? emoticon someone on SP mentioned a "no thank you" portion, which i thought was a great idea.

Hmm.. if you pack her lunch with an ice pack. You could try slicing it up in slices for her. I saved a few single serving jello container for sm. containers for my fruit to pack in my lunches. I put plastic wrap on top and secure it with a rubber band.

Nik,
one thing that helps a lot is to make sure that when you have veggies at a meal, make sure she gets some and you make a fuss about ohhh how good yours are. Don't give any negative reactions to her own reactions to the veggies, just keep pretending they are so great, yummmm! Gosh, Mommy loves these, you don't? Oh my you are missing out. They are so good and will make us grow so big and strong!
If she doesnt eat them, make no fuss, just clear her plate like you normally would, and keep it up every time. Eventually she should begin to want to get in on the "game" and might try some. If she does you can say ohhhh my you tried it! now you will grow bigger and stronger! (or prettier like Mommy or whatever works for her and you) and just keep up the positive attitude about them no matter what.

I know that's probably not what you were looking for lol but it's a good start!

Oh, and I'm in on the challenge!
I'll post mine tomorrow, and my only sugary drink is 1 tsp of sugar in my coffee each morning. I'll cut it in half hehe :)

If you focus on results, you will never change.
If you focus on change, you will get results.

We tried Apriums too. I was looking for apricots for a recipe. But none available, we found apriums and decided to make that our fruit to try. Question. Have you been able to find nutrient info. on the fruit. I couldn't find much, so when I entered into my food tracker it's a little off. But the fruits were awsome.
Our veggie was Spaghettie Squash. A little different. But it was ok.
So the girls and sugary drinks are doing great. For me I am settling for replacing half of the sugary drinks with water that I drink.

I tried my fruit. They're called Apriums. They're a cross-breed of Apricots and plums. They're pretty good. I read an article on them and it said that their sugar content is fairly high. So if anybody knows more about that let me know. Thanks for the challenge.

Try mixing the vegees into a fruit smoothie!! It works really well for us...
Three of my five have sensory challenges with two having Aspergers...eating is interesting at best in this house!!
The smoothies have really been a hit...cook and puree first seems to work best as it takes the rough textures out of the vegees. I make a bunch (of the vegee part) and freeze in portions to use later.
