-Like I said in an earlier post, don't feel bad for not trying harder, just giving it a go in the first place I think is pretty good. And, if you think about it, not all Catholics are thin, (I'm certainly not!)..you gave it a go -that's the important thing, but what's more important is that you do what works for YOU...and something else, I know a few Catholics that instead of giving up something for Lent, they decided to do good deeds instead. I wonder if keeping the chocolate companies in business would be considered a good deed...because that is what I'd like to do!!! LOL.

I was raised Roman Catholic but not "strict" so alot was lost on me. My DH came from a very religious family but he "broke free" of it in college and hasn't really returned. I feel bad for not trying harder, but....

Kudos to you Janay. I'm more like Kris - doing horrible with this. I'm not Catholic but I still try to give up something for Lent each year. Thanks for the encouragement Tammy.

-Way to go Janay for the continued giving up pop. Do you think you might give it up all together after Lent is over? I gave up diet coke (because that's actually the only kind of pop I drink...and occassional diet mountain dew). I am a coffee drinker so the headaches, withdrawls didn't affect me in that way. -Actually, I don't really miss diet coke, now I'm drinking more water, but I know that once Easter gets here, I'll be having one, so that's probably why it's not bothering me too much. The meat on Fridays isn't a problem since I was born in a Catholic family, giving up meat on Fridays during lent is just something we do -don't know if I could do it otherwise. For those of you who are not Catholic but take the Lenten Challenge, my hats off to you...Good job, whether you follow through and finish or just do it for a little while, It's not an easy thing to do, so make sure and give yourself credit for trying it! -My best, Tammy

HORRIBLE!!! I gave up on the giving up chocolate...just couldn't do it! Have been doing pretty good on the no meat on Fridays but hubby brought me a turkey sub and it was from my favorite deli and...... other than that I've been good on Fridays!

I'm going to jump on this challenge wagon! The support from these challenges really helps keep me motivated! Friday's during lent can be difficult, not because of the no meat, but because of all the fish sandwich specials at local fast food restaurants (That's a weakness for me!).did indulge on Ash Wednesday after church and made my only meal for that day from Long John Silvers. I did however, look up the calorie content, sodium etc. I did okay since I had not eaten anything but half a banana that day, but LJS is really a weakness for me, especially during Lent...At least I know where to come for support!

Going...OK. Doing fine with the no meat on Friday thing, but the chocolate.... My DD is doing her science fair project on nutrition & taste of "diet" brownies. In the name of science I indulged in some chocolate brownies to be a guinea pig. 2 out of the 4 weren't very good but 2 were decent. I've been good other than that!

Janay the pop (that is soda right?) thing will get better. I used to drink 3-4 Cokes a day and then one day about 4 years ago I just stopped cold turkey. It was hard at first but now I don't even like the taste of Coke -it's too sweet.

O.k. 1 days without pop and fast food. The pop thing is hurting me because I have such a huge headache and don't feel good.

Have a great day...

It was great without T.V. because we were forced to do other things. My husband and daughter (9 and overwieght) played video games. I don't mind if she does that, but now she will only be able to after she does something outside first!

We gave up TV 2 years ago - haven't missed it (okay, DH does...). To be fair, though, we do watch videos/dvds; kids get 1/2 h. per school nite (helps w/ son's nebulizer treatments!) and a full-length movie on Fri/Sat nites if we're home. DH & I sometimes watch a movie after the kids go to bed on Fridays.

1 - Meat
2 - All chocolate except organic/free trade (hard to find, LOL!)
3 - Plastic - bought nalgene bottles for each of us and practicing taking along our own leftover containers when we eat out.

I'm giving up the chocolate.

I'm also going to give it an extra effort to follow the "rules". Fasting today & Good Friday & no meat on Fridays. I've let those practices slip in the past few years.
