Hi, I'm finding my mistake was one of those green credit cards that you pay in full each month. Because there was no true limit it was easy to run the bill up. Happily I've found you and Dave and now I'm getting out from under. I have removed almost all of the "automatic" payments that were on this card. I believe that credit cards are fear based. I never thought about this much because this was the system I was taught. I hope though to break the cycle. I like the debt snowball. It will take a bit of time but I believe I can do it - get out of debt. I have my emergency fund started and feel good about the changes I am making. Thanks,

Slow and steady - this time is the last - aiming for consistency.
Look forward to using the blog for my upcoming FPU group at church. We have cut up all our credit cards and only have debit cards. We do groceries for cash but not anything else. Hoping to work on my husband and go to more cash later on.
Mrs. Jari - you mentioned figuring out your electricity bill. Have you checked with your utility companies about being put on a monthly payment plan. The company figures out the average and you pay that every month. At the end of the year you settle up. For us we have only had to pay once when the average was set to low. The other times we have gotten a month or so free. :) We love it because we can budget that set amount and not have to worry about it fluctuating.
TedyBear, that is a big part of the problem. I actually do not shop much - my husband does most of the shopping, and he doesn't often give me the receipts. I am currently trying to use ideas from Gail Vax Oxley (I'm not sure of how to spell her name) of have a certain percentage for fixed expenses and a certain one for variable. I started listing them, and going through my checkbook and getting ideas and numbers., and then going through bill to see how much for electricity, etc that it averages. I quickly became overwhelmed. I have been doing this many Many times throughout the years, and I just never seem to get off the ground We are in okay condition right now, but I want to get a handle on finances so that we Stay OK! It also doesn't help that we are still giving money to 3 of our grown children, and one of their spouses. We are trying to wean them off of us and onto themselves, though.

Here's someone who's trying it out, a blogger who is a Dave fan, despite much reservations. Over a period of time she's come to the point of really experimenting with it. She's heard all the benefits and wants to test the theory. If you've been struggling with the same, maybe this post will help you.
