Ditto, Kashmir!
We had a lot of fun meeting and seeing everyone, and slinging rice like professionals LOL
Thank you, LindaM.1, 1derlandbound, Finding_Crystal and daughter, Kashmir, PandaSinger, and hubbies Bill and Al, for coming out and helping so many people in such a short time.
We packed 21,973 lbs of pears and rice (separately), which equates to approx. 16,902 meals. We were 9 volunteers in a total of 64 people, and our efforts meant that we each individually were responsible for 264 meals. That's pretty incredible when you think about it.
Pictures are up and available on the team's Photo page. I'll be happy to email/text pics to you if you'd like, just send me a message.
I'll dive back in to see if we can get a Saturday morning shift scheduled next. C~

I hope everyone has a good time tomorrow. Wish I could be there but just doesn't fit my schedule. Can't wait for the next weekend volunteer day!

Hey Everyone!
One of our teammates, SongofDeborah, would like to come with us to volunteer at the OFB, but doesn't have any transportation. She is downtown (I didn't get specific, sorry) and I'm wondering if any of you who will be coming on the 13th are downtown and might be able to give Deborah a ride?
If so, please shoot me a SparkMail and I'll connect you with Deborah. Thanks! C~

We currently have 7 Sparkers signed up to volunteer! Yay! I'm waiting on information from one lady, and need to call another to see if she'll be joining us. I can extend the deadline until Oct. 30, if we have one or two more people who want to come along.
Hi there ~ I'd like to volunteer with you at the Oregon Food Bank on Tues, Nov 13th. I can be there by 6pm. Please send any details necessary. Looking forward to being part of such a worhty cause !! Liz (PandaSinger) Reger

Yay Kari! I think they have a TriMet stop right outside the facility, for whatever that's worth. I'll send you a quick SparkMail.
I'd like to join you. I don't have anything on my schedule for that evening as far as I know. Just need to figure out how to get there from downtown Portland when I get off work.

MYSTIKLUNA - I'm sorry this time won't work with your schedule. I've only signed us up for one shift in November at this point, until I get an idea of interest from everyone.
Gaye and RINGZEMALL, see above please I'll work on figuring out a weekend shift for folks as well, most likely in December.
STUFFNEARTABOR - I would think so, yes. It does require standing for the time that we're there, but rarely is there heavy lifting involved - as long as 5 lbs isn't considered heavy. There are plenty of jobs that need to be done that don't require lifting at all.
We do need at least 5 people, so right now with myself, hubby Bill, and PDXFitMommy, we're almost there! C~
I have choir rehearsal on Thursday nights so am not available.

Are there jobs that don't require heavy lifting?

Hi PDXFitMommy I'm glad you're interested. I sent you a SparkMail - you should have it now. This thread is a great way to start communicating. SparkMail, and regular email, will make it easier from here on out.

Hi everyone!
SparkPortland has the opportunity to volunteer at the Oregon Food Bank on November 15. *** Correction - we'll be volunteering on Tuesday, November 13. ***
We need 5 to 10 people to help repackage bulk food into smaller packages. If you'll check out our Team Photos, you'll see a few shots of previous volunteer efforts with some of your team mates.
Volunteers age 6 and up are welcome. The Food Bank is located at 7900 Northeast 33rd Drive Portland, OR 97211
In the past, we repackaged large crates of rice into five pound bags, and large boxes of pears into five pound bags. Each shift is 2.5 hours long - ours will be 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm - which includes a tour of the facility.
I need to turn in a roster of 5 to 10 people no later than October 25. If you're interested, please feel free to sign up on this discussion thread. I'll send you a SparkMail for information from you that I'll need to submit our team roster.
Please let me know if you have any questions. If you've been with our group when we volunteered at the Food Bank in the past, it would be great if you shared your experience and impressions. C~
