Our garden plot is ready to go and I went to the garden center yesterday for seeds/plants. DH and are are planting the Salad/Kitchen Garden today and will get the bigger vegetable garden (green beans, corn, tomatoes, beets, okra, etc. planted as soon as our soil here warms up some.

Sounds like everyone is getting "dirt fever" so that it good.

Let's get growing.

I've grown sweet potatoes in Texas and in Colorado, so don't see why they wouldn't grow in California. Find some in the market that are starting to sprout and plant one in a pot, sprouty end sort of up and barely or not covered, when the sprouts are maybe 6 inches long and have bumps on the stem, gently break them off and transplant to garden, watering in. Those bumps will grow roots.

Each one will make a fairly large plant, so allow room. They seem to do best in hilled rows.

If you are going to grow asparagus, I would suggest that you get Purple Passion asparagus. You may have to order it from a catalog or online but it is wonderful. It is very sweet and juicy. Remember asparagus is a perennial so you need to pick a permanent spot for it. It takes a couple of years before you can harvest it.

I am in Kansas and we have only about 6 months to grow things. Much different then southern Calf.
We have to grown things fast!! ha ha
What fun to have such a large area to plant in!!!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

Oh yah I forgot about asparagus. They grow here! That is my new like food! I never liked them up until a few months ago. I used to not like sweet potatoes, but I love them now. I wish I could grow them here, but I don't think they grow in California?

Can you grow asparagus where you are? Asparagus and tomatoes are two things that have a flavor that can't be duplicate like right from your own garden!!

Well this weekend, I tore apart the deck, yes it was I and my daughters boyfriend, all I had was a hammer and crow bar, but we did it!! Then I leveled the ground, put a fence up so the dogs can't get to it, now I am ready to mend the soil so I can plant veggies this weekend. My garden is 12 x 7, so i wonder what i should plant? Tomatoes are a given. i think I want to try potatoes and corn! I know high starch veggies, but there so good. I also plan on planting lots of sweet bell peppers and maybe some beans and strawberries. I am going to costco this week to get a blueberry bush, you know we need a super food in the garden. I am so excited, this will be my first real veggie garden.
