Sunny that was beautiful. I didn't know that sunflowers came in so many different colors. I always thought they were just yellow. Shows you what I know.

I hear you all with the RAIN WISHES....we are super dry here in Ohio.

Tonight (after returning from a long week at FAIR!) we pulled a basket full of plum Italian tomatoes (sweet / sun variety) for my salad at dinner. STILL WAITING On the majority of tomatoes to bloom.

THE SUNFLOWER ARE AMAZING..... can't wait to share some photos soon.

We are suppose to get rain all week. I hope it hurries up and gets here. I didnt water this morning LOL

How did you plant your corn Sunny? Mine is comming up short and kinda icky. I cant remember what I planted and I left my garden notes at home (first time in about 6 months lol). I planted a 2x4 box of corn 4 per square and it just isnt coming out right. Missing corn, not fully developed, etc.

My favorite veggie was green beans. I just didnt seem to get enough of them.

Wish I could have sent you some of our rain. It (so far today) has not rained yet today but we have had rain all week and more coming in tomorrow.

We picked our corn today. They are very small ears but very sweet. We also picked some of the onions and the beets. I will take some veggies to my father this week.

Take care! Good to see you on line, Bren.

I feel your pain - or lack of rain SUNNY! We have had NO rain as well and my poor zuchinni are few, cucumbers are just horrible no matter how much I water with the hose from the well.
THE BEST Treat out of the garden this year was the 1 LEMON cucumber I found hiding under some vine! IT was super sweet and I can't wait to grow them again next year.

Happy Summer Everyone!

Other than my wonderful tomatoes this year, I have to go with the cucumbers. I think because of the amount of rain we have had, they are just extra sweet this year.

Today, we pick corn.

Have a wonderful day in the Garden, Team.

Tomatoes are always my favorite. I can never buy any that taste as good as they come out of my garden. I picked two buckets (each 2 gallon) full to overflowing, yesterday.

We tried a new yellow tomato this year. We are not impressed with it. It is called lemon boy. It is a light yellow and is just as light on flavor.

Other than the tomato, it is extremely hard to pick a favorite. Everything is so delicious!

Got a tomato the other day at a local farm stand and loved it so much I saved seeds. Did that last year with some yellow Amish and have a ton of plants this year as all the seeds took! All together 50 tomato plants!

Have a 'mystery plant' in the compost and appears to be some sort of squash or melon. TBD...

I don't know where you are Kaylslynn but we are in Zone 5 (Northeast Missouri) and we picked our fist mess yesterday. The tomatoes will be a while here.
I have a big pot cooking right now with some onion and new potatoes.

I did get some off my patio plants but waiting patiently on the garden ones.

I don't know if I have a favorite, but I've had lots of zucchini, a few tomatoes, a few cucumbers and bush beans, and my sunflowers just bloomed. I'm still waiting on the peppers, watermelon (I hope), and corn (fingers crossed).
Have a great day everyone

Hey Margaret - Don't you just love those Mystery plants in the compost pile?

Glad you are enjoying tomatoes. I am looking forward to the day. In the mean time, I am getting some good one from the Farmer's Market.

Our tomato plants have loads of green tomatoes right now with a few ripe ones. We have been enjoying cherry tomatoes in our salad this week. Today we picked an Early Girl. Yum-yum.
I started zucchini from seed this year and we have our first ever. I am tickled.
We have a yellow squash growing in our compost and a mystery plant. It looks like it might be a melon.
We pick a nice size mess of green beans and will be eating them the rest of this weekend. We also dug up 5 pounds of potatoes. I love this time of year.

The swiss chard sounds good. I think my tomatoes are my very favorite veggie in the garden this year and can not wait til they start ripening. Right now, I have lots of green tomatoes so won't be long.

Some of my Sunflowers have blossoms so won't be long til they are blooming. emoticon I am excited about seeing their sweet faces.

I did not plant squash but am making trips to the Farmer's Market to get squash so next year, it will definitely go in the garden.

Have a GREAT weekend. Sunny

I love my cherry tomatoes! I can eat a whole bowl of them Like they were grapes!
I have plenty of cukes, too. I once saw a large container of water with slices of cucumbers in it at a hotel lobby. It looked so refreshing, I'm gonna make a pitcher of cuke-water today!

My tomatoes are just now starting to ripen. I should be able to pick a couple of them tomorrow. I have been picking a few cucumbers here and there. Sooooo good. I'm hoping that they will start producing in mass quantities so that I can make some pickles.

I love those tomatoes! Are you going to try and save seeds from them and grow them again?
My favorites this year is something simple ... sugar snap peas! I am still harvesting them in July! I picked a pound of them this morning! I have not had much luck with them in the past because it usually got too hot too fast and the vines all dried up so it's good (and encouraging) to finally get a good crop!

Success is the sum of many small steps ...

Get to know me better!

What are you excited about this season in the veggie garden.

I am in zone 5b and we have been extremely dry this season. Today we finally got some rain that was much needed. Due to the dry spell we are behind on zucchini and cucumber harvesting. I do want to share a newbie to my garden this year that I purchased at a Heirloom growers greenhouse.

Russian Purple Plum.... LOVE IT! My photo is at :
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_p
ho
tos_enlarge.asp?gid=19538&pid=6464&sR>idn=bLzvLS]nvZ6++++e%3Enf7Is1Y++++++

The vine is packed with new blooms and fruit. The description that came with the plant stated that it would be a long season harvest. CAN"T WAIT to add more to our plates! This little juicy hearty tomatoes are a TWO BITER.... LOVE IT! Hoping to get enough off of one plant to do some canning with it.

ANOTHER NEW Tomato Heirloom is the Purden Purple. Green Fruit right now so I will have to return to tell you how that one turns out.

PLEASE SHARE what your favorite is. THis is fun and it is a great experience to hear what overs are growing so I may try it next season as well.

Happy SUmmer!
