Good for you Erin!

Today I am grateful for such good friends. Me and 2 girlfriends are going to the lake this weekend and they are so good to take me along and don't treat me like an invalid! We have fun and laugh and they help if I need it!

Today I was grateful for the strength to move the furniture to vacuum beneath it.

I AM GRATEFUL TODAY THAT I WAS ABLE TO WRITE A BLOG ABOUT A FEW SILLY THINGS THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO DO EVEN IF I DO LOSE MY EYE SIGHT COMPLETELY. I HAVE TO TRY TO FIND THE LIGHTER SIDE OF ANY SITUATION OR YOU CAN MAKE YOURSELF CRAZY.

I can understand. But, I lost a sister and a brother in 2 separate events in 2004 and can't even think of my parents going through that again, so I am doing what I can to stay alive for as long as I can! But, again, I can understand your thinking....

Hi Mellisa,

I even took it so far as to get all fresh food out of the house and got only portion controlled Lean Cuisine and stuff like that. I swear, I would eat three at one meal! What good does that do? I think, because I know my days are very limited, part of me is wondering; why even try? I have come to grips that i will never be a size 4 again or even a 14 so I have to accept myself the way I am knowing that God knows what I'm going through. I guess after all the pain and bad things I have faced in my life, I will be more that glad when it ends.

Hi Erin. I know, I know....

I had a little hope from the elected prez, but am quite scared now. But, as you said, I've done all I can and the rest is up to my maker!

Wow, 7 heart attacks.... You don't give up easily, do you? Hee. I also have the portion sydnrome. I can't seem to eat just a little! But, I'm trying and making those small changes each day! WooHoo! Be well....

Hi Melissa!

Isn't it terrible what we do to ourselves? I know a few really thin and in shape diabetics but not nearly as many as the overweight ones. I think I have been on a diet of some kind or another for at least 50 years. I have no one to blame but myself. Sure, I didn't plan to get diabetes at 3 years old and to last until 1995 without any major complications. But when they started to hit, they just didn't stop. I have had 7 heart attacks (one big, the rest minor) and open heart surgery and still I feed my face. We eat very healthy but way too much. I have that syndrome called "portion distortion". LOL The more things they find wrong with me, it just gets to the point where I laugh. It's like, "what's next". I think the only thing that I don't have is prostate problems and if I get that, I am going to go down in the history of medicine as a freak of nature. But God is good all the time and He has never let me down yet. But still, I know the next attack I get or even a bad cold could kill me. And I am so ready to go! I don't
like what is happening to our country and although I do everything I can as far as contacting my Senator etc. it just isn't enough to stop that lunatic running this country into ruin. So I would gladly meet my creator tomorrow without ever looking back.

Hello Erin. I am Melissa, age 44, diabetic for 40 years this May and blind. Bad care and diabetes robbed me of my eyesight, but going blind was God's way of telling me I need to take care b/c I am not invincible as I once believed!

I heard a preacher say the other day that the secret to contentment was being thankful for what you have.... He is right! I looke forward to hearing more from you!

Hi to all,

I am new to this team and not sure where to start but I do know this. If you have multiple health problems brought on by diabetes, you have a tendency to beat yourself up. SO many diabetics are overweight - I'm one of them. But I have a secondary problem that is really challenging. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. My spine is crumbling. It is a hereditary condition that my dad didn't know about until long after his kids were born. I didn't find out what it meant because they kept telling me women couldn't get it. So I went undiagnosed for 5 years and by that time, the damage was done. It is a rare combination of an autoimmune disease and a rare form of arthritis. But if I just lay around crying the blues, what life I have left will be very depressing. So I do what I can when I can. I spend lots of time in one of those cute chairs with wheels on it. I am 62 years old and have racing stripes on the sides of my chair. I want a hot pink motorized chair but my husband says I would lose my license in one day since I have two speeds - flat out or stop.
I've been fighting diabetes for 59 years now as a type 1 and really do a good job of managing it even though I am now brittle. I test at least 10 times a day and usually take nearly 400 units of insulin in 6 shots. But it's OK. There are so many people out there that are in a lot worse shape than me. I have a husband and his family that love me and a God that is always there bringing me the peace I need when I get frustrated. I guess I could just sit in a chair and wait to die (which may be a possibility if this new health care plan goes through) but who wants to hang around with a sad faced crab all the time. So I get up each morning, put on my make-up and do my hair and attack what ever chores need doing in this huge house. It takes me awhile but my DH is great about helping and I choose to be content - not ecstatic - but living my life. When people ask you how you're doing, they really don't want to know so I just smile and say great! I sing at my church and have made a couple records (now that term dates me ). I do it with no back up because I sing in the key of me
and no one has been able to figure it out yet. But I love doing it and we have a huge church of 3,000+ members and I close every Monday night prayer service. Sometimes, I hurt a lot but I try not to show it. And I'm glad to be here and hope some of you will tell me about yourselves.

We are in a team with people who have complications as a result of diabetes, or because we are caring for such a person.... It is OK to vent and to complain, but I htought it would be nice to have this thread to drop in every day and list at least 1 thing for which we are grateful that day! It is easy to get caught up in all of our problems and we forget to be thankful for the good stuff in our lives! So, drop by every day and say thanks for something here....

Today I am grateful that I have a loving husband who supports me and helps me through difficult times, like the really bad low blood sugar I had this AM!
