We have been having a new roof put on our house, so the gate has been open. We couldn't let the dogs out, so I took them for a walk around the block yesterday and today. I drove to Curves only to find out that they aren't open Sat. afternoon. Oh, well, I got my walk in anyway.

It's the last day of Jan., can you believe it? I hope everyone on this team has continued or started a workout program that fits in to your lifesyle that you can build on or continue the rest of your lives. I know for myself the more I do the better and stronger I feel. You can be sure I will continue as long as I am able

Here is my last post for January challenge--
15 minutes on the Elliptical and 65 min. on the treadmill. I quit as soon as I reached my goal of 10,000 steps.

anyone got their Pedometers ready to go for February yet? Sure hope so. it is a remarkable tool to motivate us to get moving.!!

today I did my weights-using 5 pound weight for only 6 reps each. Don't want to get sore. Then I followed with 40 minutes Treadmill and 26 minutes Elliptical while watching favorite shows. Quit when I reached 10800 steps!

And the abs and gluts too!! Good for you.

This evening after pigging out at the mexican restaurant- I did the Treadmill 'til I surpassed my 10,000 steps. 50 minutes to be exact. Reached 10,555 so far. WOOHOO

I would like to suggest this team all arm yourselves with a pedometer and keep track of your steps in February. Lets use that as one of our February challenges. How about you suggesting one other challenge to go with it, Joe?

I hope you all are working out daily in your own way!Please post here so we can be happy with you.

Today I finally talked myself in to working with heavier weight for strength workout. I used 5 pounds weights and could do only 6 reps of each. i will try to do this 3 times a week from now on. Maybe that will shake up my weight loss.??

then I did the Elliptical and the Treadmill while watching TV.
Reached my 10,000 steps, Woo Hoo!

Just reached 10,372 steps after finishing 20 minutes on the Stationary Bike, 40 minutes on the Elliptical and 50 minutes on the treadmill while watching my favorite shows on TV including the Biggest Loser! emoticon

Back to work at my cardio today! I started about 1:30 am and did 13 minutes at a time on the Elliptical, Stationary bike and Treadmill interspersed with strength training steps and meal preps and cleanup-, food shopping, picking up grandson at school, etc. etc. etc.! 'til I finally reached my 10,000 steps this evening. As soon as I reach them I quit!! emoticon Good workouts to you all!, Pat

Can't go to bed without reporting in!

Finally got my cardio in while watching "Catch Me If You Can" on TV.did anyone else see it? suppose to be based on a true story!!

45 minutes each on the Elliptical and the Treadmill.
Reached my goal of 10,000 steps- actually 10,885 so that made me happy.

Keep up the good work team of trying to do just a bit more each day. Your body will thank you for it.

Are you enjoying doing the boot camp? sounds fun.
I have finally talked myself into doing an AM workout. Got my elliptical done before and just after lunch. this evening now I can do the Treadmill to meet my 10,000 steps requiremnet while watching something on the TV.

Also hope Leta can get out to do her water aerobics!

Sorry to hear you have a cold, Sue. take it easy and maybe have some chicken soup too! It's that time of year.

I finally embarked on a new habit-I hope. I got some cardio in before lunch! Every day I have put off doing anything about it until after dinner so today I got in 45 minutes of Elliptical and 15 minutes of Stationary bike before 12:45! THEN we ate lunch. I am proud of myself emoticon Now this evening I can do my treadmill-just enough to reach my 10,000 steps!

Happy Inauguration Day to you all!

reporting in for Jan. 20th.

The only exercise I got all day during watching of the events in Washington was taking our new grand puppy out every hour to go potty. He is so cute. a cross between a Jack
Russell terrier and a Beagle.
Finally tonight during the biggest Loser I did my 60 minutes on the treadmill and chalked up over 10,000 steps!

What a great team. I am proud of you all.

So far have taken the day off from cardio. Did do 60 minutes or more- of Heavy cleaning. I may get to the Elliptical yet.
Joe you asked how long I do the elliptical-usually 30 to 60 minutes (I really like it because it burns more calories than the other two machines I use. But I am also fond of the treadmill because it chalks up steps toward my goal of 10,000.

This team is doing so well! You're a wonderful example for me.

I apologize for not checking in for a few days. I didn't do any cardio today -- we're having a big snowstorm so I didn't get out to the gym. I think I'm going to have to get an exercise DVD for days when I'm homebound! I did do 45 minutes of mat and weight exercises here at home.

January 16- reporting in:
Today I only got in 90 minutes of workout. 60 on the treadmill and 30 on the Elliptical. I had planned to do more but as I asked DH to raise my treadmill up a bit-(the automatic leveler doesn't work andy more) he fixed the problem!. He raised it 1 1/2 inches. Now I am getting much more of a workout.!
Also so we had our 4rth day Protein shake again for dinner.
I Hope to report a weight loss by next week! Wish me luck. Pat

Reporting in on my workout today.

Did full 60 minutes on elliptical and another 60 minutes on Treadmill.

and our experiment with lower calorie dinner!

Third day of dinner-- of a Protein Shake made up of Whey powder, frozen strawberries, frozen banana,and scoop of yogurt in nonfat milk. DH says "its not bad at all" From him that's a compliment!

I am making progress as in my waist is getting smaller!But- My weight remains the same.
So I am trying something new this week. We are having our normal full breakfast and lunch and fruit and yogurt snack but for dinner we are having a protein shake.
Will keep you posted.
My cardio today is 30 minutes on the treadmill while watching "Mamma Mia" via video.

On Tuesday, I did 45 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes walking. Four weight machines.

Today, 50 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes walking. Sloughed off on the weight machines today!

Hi, everyone! Pat, I'm sending you a hug and warm thoughts.

I went to a retreat Friday night and Saturday, and didn't get any exercise in those two days. Today I shoveled snow for 40 minutes. We got a pretty big storm today, but luckily it ended around noontime, so there was some time left in the day to do errands and visit my parents, which I hadn't had a chance to do yesterday.

I'm ready for spring!

I am back after my sad day off! thanks so much for all your kind words.

I did 60 minutes TM and 30 minutes each, Elliptical and Stationary Bike watching the golden Globe Awards.

Hope you all got in your own version of some activity today as well as a nice day of rest Pat

I am here reporting on my cardio for today--
Did 15 flights of 18 step stairs while sitting with ill grandson today.
Tonight I finally did treadmill for 39 minutes and Elliptical for 16 while watching television

Go Team! We can do it if we set our minds to it. Pat emoticon

REPORTING IN:Hey team- How are you doing on our challenge?
this morning I did 37 minutes on the treadmill
and 12 minutes on the Elliptical in 12 min. sessions at which time I did the stair steps (total of 10 times) I am trying to reach 10,000 steps again. Up to 9000 as of the moment.

A GREAT RECIPE FOR THE NEW YEAR!


1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is
the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Talk to God (or a
friend) about what is going on in your life. Buy a lock if you have to.

3. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My
purpose is to__________ today. I am thankful for______________'

4. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is
manufactured in plants.

5. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries,
wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli , almonds & walnuts.

6. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

7. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, Issues of
the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest
your energy in the positive present moment.

8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like

10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

11. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

Pat, you're definitely not alone! I did 45 minutes on the elliptical today and four weight machines.

I went back to work today after two weeks off. It was hard to get my head in gear! I went to the gym at home and it helped me feel more settled.

This morning I did a 50-minute step aerobics class. Also, a friend and I walked for an hour and 15 minutes tonight. I thought it would be freezing but it wasn't bad -- quite refreshing, actually!

Thanks, Pat! You're doing great, too! I did two aerobics classes this morning (I usually only do two classes in a day once a week, but this week they had special classes on New Year's Day). I also added a machine to my strength training.

Good workout gal! We will make 2009 our year to shine! I did a water arobics class today and then water walked for an hour at the gym - Thanks for reminding me about the 100's I have to tuck a rolled blanket under my back though I cant curl enough to get a good 100's workout if I don't.

Thanks for the encouraging words, GoodHappens! I just did a 45-minute step class and then did five mat exercises: ball crunches, bicycle crunches, the bridge (a yoga and pilates exercise for, I think, the back), the 100s (a pilates exercise for the abs), and a stability/balance exercise with the ball.

Hi, everyone!

I did two aerobics classes today -- not something I do every day, but sometimes they schedule the ones I like back-to-back, so I do them.

Waist: 33 1/2

At age 62, I'm the oldest person in my aerobics classes, and when I started I thought I'd never be able to do the classes. It took me a while to learn the steps, but I'm glad I persevered, because I love it now and have a real feeling of accomplishment!

I had to start very small with exercise, and built up.

Here we go! Our January challenge starts today!!!

I did my 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning.

I took my waist measurement this morning- 35 inches
this is taken around the belly button area so there is no sucking in.. Following Dr. Oz recommendations

If 30 minutes is too much for you at this time please start with what is comfortable and work up. Just start.

Also you don't have to post your waist here but please make a note of it on your own to compare at end of month.
