i do have an aunt who lived to be 103 and i remember she ate like a bird, and her mind was sharp as a tack to the end. SHE REFUSED TO GO TO A CARE CENTER- SAID IT WAS A WAIST OF MONEY! KEPT VERY CLOSE TRACK OF HER SAVINGS. She even remembered all of our 8 childrens name and ask about each one. when she could no longer see well she allowed family to hire a caretaker to live with her . WAS ABLE TO LIVE IN HER OWN HOME TO THE END!

Hi Paula - I guess I didn't realize you have diabetes you may already know this but. If you haven't discovered it already I invite you to join the Eat To Live team which like me is now following the teachings of Dr. Fuhrman. He has many testimonials of diabetics reversing their disease. Please take a look anyway. Hugs, pat

I forgot about my previous post. When I saw the question, I thought...by the Grace of God. And, being free of diabetes is still my number 1 priority. Today, my DH and I started a walking STREAK. Our goal is to walk every day until March 22nd, weather permitting. If the weather does not co-operate we will march in place in the house for a half hour.

Hi GoodHappens you reminded me of my Mom, she often told us to "Count Our Blessings" If we were grumbling about something or just fussing. Perhaps, we had not gotten what we wanted. And, then after we Counted Our Blessings we found we felt better and things we not so bad. Great way to start our day.
It must be God's will that I am still here. Both of my parents died at very young ages (40s) I need to focus and loose weight to put my diabetes to rest. That is my current goal.

Start each day by counting our blessings- exercise (if you can) every bit helps - Avoid a diet high in junk food - I love Dr Oz

I understand that Dr. OZ, whose opinion I respect, says tea and coffee and other beverages do not count as part of your daily water intake. In fact- they are dehydrators and you need to drink even more water to counteract them! So he believes as SPARK does that water is most important for our health. You are fortunate that your health is good and I too believe that exercising helps keep our depression at bay! Good luck with your goals, Susan, Pat

I honestly couldn't tell you. Knock on wood, I have been relatively healthy in my life. I tend to be a depressive person but lately seem to have a more positive outlook and I don't know where that comes from; it's an inner thing. I've always heard that exercising and keeping fit is the thing to do and I'm beginning to believe it. All the news about brain and alzheimers, etc, stress that it is important to keep fit in body and mind. So I'm pure lucky I haven't had any catastophic disease yet and hope to keep it that way thru the next few years. I still work full time, having retired from one job 13 years ago and work at entirely different job for the last 13 years. Maybe that has helped.

Can other drinks such as diet sodas and herbal tea count towards my 8 glasses of water for the day?
The latest recommendations from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science, Dietary Reference Intake for Electrolytes and Water say:
"The fluids consumed do not have to be only water. Individuals can obtain their fluids from a variety of beverages and foods. Contrary to popular opinion, consumers do not need to consume 'eight glasses of water a day' to meet their fluid needs."
However my own personal opinion, particularly for people trying to lose weight, is to encourage additional water intake whenever possible. I feel it helps to cleanse the body when weight loss and fat breakdown is occurring. I also know that it helps to keep the hands and mouth busy, so snacking is less. This is a form of behavior modification. I personally know that many people feel better when at least 4-6 glasses of plain old H2O is consumed to help meet total fluid needs.

1. try to eat right. 2. don't smoke. 3. I do not drink alcohol at all. 4. exercise every day. 5. LOVE THE LORD ALWAYS. 6. Pray daily. 7. Give every one I meet a smile. *. Not necessary in this order.
