I live for avocado in my salads! Scrummy. But usually everything and anything goes in-you have to use it else it goes off right? My usual dressing is a mix of balsamic vingegar and olive oil...yumm!

I love those Asian-style salads. I like having something sweet so I like putting fruits on my salads, I love mandarin oranges on it, makes it so good! I also love sprinkling chopped nuts over it, specially almonds! I don't like sprinkling cheese on top of my salads plus it is fattening anyway. If I can I will do without dressing because that can add unnecessary calories VERY fast so what's the point of having a 500 calorie salad, might as well have a burger for that amount of calories.

I use a mixture of romaine and iceburg lettuce with celery, green pepper, mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions, nuts, avacado, parmasean cheese, cranberries, and balsamic and extra virgin olive oil. It is delicious!
a good tip i've picked up is to not only get your dressing on the side, but if you dip your fork in your dressing, and then pick up the salad, it has all the flavor you want but you'll see you barely use ANY dressing...even though it seems like you did!
My favorite salad is grilled chicken, corn, fat free cheddar cheese, a little bit of barbecue sauce, and ranch dressing. I will also put sunflower seeds or some kind of other nuts on for protein. My favorite dressing is Kraft Roasted Red Pepper with Parmesan. It's not fat-free or low fat, but it's not bad for you with a TON of flavor.
I usually put spinach, tomatoes, carrots, dill pickle slices, sunflower seeds, and occasionally banana peppers. With all the flavor the toppings bring, who needs dressing? The pickles are less than 5 calories and they pack a great flavor.
My 'usual' salad is spinach, beets, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, and some tofu. I don't like dressing. If I have some, I occasionally put on dried cranberries or almonds. Since I'm on a meal plan, I hit the salad bar twice a day... there are all sorts of things on the bar, so I can put whatever they want on it. :) I put on all sorts of things, but what I listed is my 'normal' salad.
I've been known to put anything and everything on a salad... Iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, arugula, spinach, mixed greens, cucumbers, broccoli, carrots, red kidney beans, black beans, tuna, celery, mushrooms, chicken breast, bell pepper, bean sprouts, turkey bacon, shrimp, FF shredded cheese....the list goes on and on. I just found one of the Salad Spritzer dressings that's Ranch flavored so I'm loving that right now! (:
"I run not to add days to my life but to add life to my days!"
I make my own salads at home and try to use as many fresh veggies as possible so that I know they haven't been soaking in a bunch of salty water, or get "no salt added" canned veggies.
I use baby spinach, sliced tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumbers, and avacodos -- they're a healthy fat and oh so good.. and then drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle pepper... sometimes I'll add some shrimp or roast beef if I have any... delicous!
The only problem is if you're making it at home it's hard to keep the ingredients fresh without eating a salad 24/7
low-fat cheese (i've been using this rice shreds soy thing for the past two weeks), bacon (low in fat and calories), low-fat greek feta dressing (only 60 calories per serving!, red onions, mushrooms, and a few slices of avocado. Of course lettuce, cucumber, etc.
I like salads but I have to have some kind of dressing - my favorite is thousand island, but I just discovered this honey mustard dressing that is good. I also always have croutons with my salad. If I have them, I will add mushrooms as well.
it may sound strange, but i usually add a fruit of some sort (chopped apple, strawberries/raspberries/blueberries, pear, whatever) and then add some nuts and seeds as well as cranberries or raisins. if i want more substance, i will add cubes of firm tofu or chickpeas (i am vegan). i guess i like summery salads!
