My cafe claims to be healthy. They have a salad bar...that's about it lol...They serve a lot of pasta and even have pasta nights.
Mines is a buffet too but we serve ourselves the food. Lately I've been eating like a rabbit...all vegetables, except for desert...those are my weaknesses.

They have icecream, cookies and some sort of pie out everyday...it's soooo hard to resist...sometimes I do...often times I don't.

I can't wait for the fall semester to start...never-ending subway and a once a week treat (chocolate icecream smoothie) yum!

Ehh, not so much healthy but it could be worse. Its an all you can eat buffet, but there are servers who serve almost everything... and the portions they give you are ENORMOUS, even if you ask for just a little bit!

The salad bar, sandwich bar, cereal bar and soup counter will be my hangouts this year. As a vegetarian, I get one special dish to choose from which is usually a very cheesy rice/pasta dish. If I hit up the main entree section, I can get cooked veggies but theyre usually disgustingly over cooked.

Ugh, I dread going back!

Mine is alright...it has a buffet style serving area, as well as a couple of salad bars, real fruit, cereal, and the rice bar. I don't eat a ton of rice, but sometimes they have good chicken for the rice toppings, and that with a salad or some fruit is always good.

I go the college but I also work full time and there's where my café is at work. It's average, salad bar, sandwich bar, healthy meal (which has a choice of two meats and 3 veggies), pizza bar and your hamburger, hot dogs and one special like maybe a hot tuna, fish sand, BBQ or sloppy joes.

This can be good and bad. You may be having a "fat day" and cave because it's right there or you can stay healthy and go with salads, veggies or whole wheat sandwiches. Oh yeah they also have soup but most times its the creamy ones which you need to stay away from emoticon

There is really on one designated healthy eating place on my campus and there are about 40,000 students on my campus alone. It is disappointing.

we have several cafs around campus and only 1 cafe can be considered healthy but it's far from my building so I bring my own lunch on most days.

Ours is no good. Well actually there is a salad bar and a place for nasty sandwhich/wraps. It is so hard to make healthy choices when you don't know the calories for things and there is no variety. It is so frustrating and makes me feel like giving up! which is not right either. AHHH

Ours isn't at all good. The lettace is always brown (yummy!! not), our food is slipping off the plate because it's so covered in grease. It's disquesting.

The only good part of the caf is that the sandwich bar. They also now have a pasta bar...but that's full of grease and carbs.

But what makes me mad is they have a menu online for a reason. For those of us who don't want to spend a meal to just walk into the caf and then walk out. But it's never the food they have out.

After I've read all of these posts, I feel so lucky! Our cafe is wonderful - very vegetarian and vegan friendly. There is a fantastic salad bar, there are always tons of fresh options, and there are lots of healthy options. It is buffet style, so I have to watch portions, but other than that, its wonderful!

The only time its bad is January, which is unfortunate since it IS January. There is still a salad bar, but many of the other options are gone.

In my college cafeteria we have Burger King, Baskin Robins, and Starbucks, which I think is sad because my college is supposed to be a Health Sciences Center and I think that our food above all should be healthy! Apart from those restaurants, we have a salad bar which is average, a sandwich bar that stinks. One good thing about our cafeteria is that they always have a variety of fresh juices and cocktails: orange, strawberry, banana & milk... which can be a healthy alternative to soda.

yesterday we had a meeting with the staff for the cafeteria and we gave some suggestions and i think out cafeteria is going to be healthier now...
today there was fresh fruit and yogurt at lunch and they are thinking of adding whole wheat pasta and making better and more vegetarian options, so looks like a step in the right direction

;)

Gross. The salad bar is very small and doesn't have many options. There isn't much entrees to choose from. They only have maybe some bananas and apples in the stacked on a random fruit cart. Ugh. The only plus side is breakfast. I can get the omelet guy to make a egg-white veggie omelet and there's probably some whole grain bagels on the bread cart. Otherwise, it sucks badly.

Thank God my parents are really caring and supportive so they give me back any money I spend on food to stock my fridge...which is about $70 bucks a week with these high food prices...but they know I really want and need to lose weight so it's all good.

the dining hall at my school isn't that bad... theres always a salad bar with fresh veggies, a sandwich bar, a vegetarian option, and all the stations have the calories posted most of the time... they are also willing to grill up a piece of chicken or veggie burger if there's nothing else you like to eat... and theres always fruit

I go to a small southern community college. When it isn't fried or greasy, it's inedible mushy veggies. There's been a lot of complaints about it, so we're probably having some cafe reform soon but it'll mostly be portion sizes increasing - not adding tasty veggies. The salad bar is mostly iceberg lettuce and completely gone by the time I roll in. When and if I eat at the cafe, I grab a turkey sandwich with water.

Extremely unhealthy. The worst part is that for all four years the meal plan costs the same and we all have to live on campus. I even had a doctor's note and I still have to eat food. The sodium is so high that I'm always dehydrated and get frequent headaches. The vegetables in the salad bar changed colour.

I'm an RA, so I'm stuck eating at the crap cafe at school. We have a salad bar, but it looks dismal most of the time. And the vegetarian options are usually soaked in grease What to do? emoticon

Mine is actually pretty good. There is a salad bar and deli to make sandwiches, which is always good, but some of the other food we have is good too...and tempting! We have a REALLY good pizza bar, burgers to order, and Taco Tuesdays...all of which really kill me. To make things worse, it's a buffet style cafeteria, so you can eat for days without paying anything extra.

Ours claims to be healthy, but half the time you can't figure out what the food is. And healthy food doesn't help when it doesn't look edible, so the safest choice is a burger or dessert anyway. The fruit and the salad don't look fresh half the time either. It's sad. :(

And I have two more years of dorm life to go. Ick.

Hello,

I don't live in residence anymore; but when I did I remember the cafe being hard to make good decisions in. How easy is it to make healthy decisions in your cafe?

I can't fail if I don't quit.
