Heading into week 4 of the new year tomorrow...how is everyone doing on their Ab focus?

I've been doing pretty good - I've missed a few workouts here and there but have been able to make it up the next day. And the results are definitely showing - I lost a full size this month! Goodbye 18, hello 16! Definitely going to keep this up next month!

Week 3 of January :-) How's everyone doing? I'm upping my sets this week...should be interesting ;-) Other than that, trucking right along and can definitely notice some inches lost in the way things fit.

GinaFabulous - I had to look it up because I wasn't familiar with the workout, but that looks like a seriously intense routine! What do you think of it, overall? Are the exercises getting a bit easier? In other words, do you feel like you're making progress? :-D

I've been doing pretty good on my workouts, so far. I didn't miss one last week and they are getting a bit easier.

Ab trivia: Common Errors in Ab Workouts

• performing different exercises that all workthe same abdominal muscles. There are several areas of the abdomen you need to target. Try to break them down into the lower, upper, and sides (oblique).

• performing the exercises way too fast. This allows momentum and not the muscles to do the work.

• holding your breath. Muscles need oxygen to work to capacity.

• performing the same exercises every single workout. One thing muscles are great at is adapting. This will limit the results greatly.

• Doing way too many sets, way too often. Yes, the abdominal muscles can be worked more than other major muscle groups, but like all muscles they need rest.

• Too little or too much intensity in the program. The first means you aren't really working out - the latter can lead to severe back problems.

My plan is: add 4 ab exercises to my workout every other day. For the first half of the month I will do 2 sets of 15 reps for each ab exercise; for the second half of the month I will do 4 sets of 15 reps for each exercise. I will focus on form in addition to slowing down and concentrating on the muscle motion to make sure that I'm doing the exercise and not "cheating" by using the movement momentum.

Another holiday season has passed and now it's time to get in gear for 2011! By request, we're going to try out something new for our team "challenges" this year and instead of setting up tasks we're going to try and focus on a "theme".

You guessed it - the theme for January 2011 is Abdominals (abs)! Take a look at the focus items below and then respond to this post to let us know what you're doing :-)

emoticon

Exercise - incorporate some targeted ab exercises into your workout routine. If you already have them in your routine, try adding an extra set or changing out for different exercises to keep yourself challenged.

Knowledge - so what do you know about abs? Find a link to something about abs and post it here. The link can be serious or funny...trivia, recommendations, common issues, frequently asked questions, jokes, or anything else you run across.

Measurable Goal - decide how you're going to measure your progress this month and share with us. Will you be happy if you complete your planned work outs or do you have a more specific results-based goal in mind. Set your goal and then tell us what it is.
