My classes have been stressing me out. I am just getting motivated after coming close to quiting for a week. I am used to geting sprains in both ankles. I use the elevators as much as possible because I am still spraining my ankles on stairs every so often. The white cane prevents most, but it still happens once in a while.

Hi all,

I've been away from this team for a while, but I'm back after completing my mission of getting married and finishing the qualifying exam for my doctoral program.

My new mission is to work my way back from a few injuries I've had over the last few months. First a stress fracture and then a severe ankle sprain. Just really starting to get back into running now.

Hope you are all well!

My suggestion for you is that you take baby steps. Don't be too demanding of yourself now that you've had a serious health issue. Set little goals and still celebrate each one.

This is the philosophy I am trying to apply myself. I have diabetic neuropathy and sometimes pain. I did an hour of Wii Fit Plus. That was a huge accomplishment for me. I am celebrating my victory!

it's been awhile since I've been on...although I've been a member for 2 years. I have been having some serious health issues that have not allowed me to exercise or eat properly. I will be going to see the gastrointestinal doctor this week...hopefully we can get some of these issues taken care of. I would like to get back on track and take this weight back off. I felt so much better when I was active and healthier.

God Bless!

Hi All! I haven't checked in here for awhile. Good to see some activity on the various boards.

My "Fast Break" went okay, but think instead of moving to Stage 2, I will try another Fast Break with modified goals -- building on what I did before and trying to maintain longer streaks. Saved1, maybe we can monitor our stages together. Would people be interested in a streak challenge? We can each pick a streak that we want to start and we'll see who goes the longest. If that sounds like something others would want to do, let me know and I'll put it in the Challenge section.

Nancy, I think your Feb challenge looks great. Did you intend each of us to post when we've done that day's challenge or sort of just track on our own?
Too bad about dd's trip. From how far away? how long since you saw her?

Well Women, hope everyone has a Great, Sparkling Week!

Nancy, Welcome. I too would like to see this team active again. Hope this will "spark" more activity.

Irene, For motivation I recently changed my Spark Diet back to Stage 1. I had gone through all the stages but didn't feel like I really belonged in the Final Stage. By re-starting with Fast Break I hope to re-learn and re-establish habits that helped me lose 20 lbs when I first started 2 years ago.

I have thought about doing a check-off list or chart but I really hate putting things on the fridge or adding to general clutter. Let me know how the chart goes for you and where you keep it?

Have a Good Day Everyone

Just checking in. Just finished reading "The Spark"! Great inspiration. Decided to make a chart with the 4 main things I need to do to become healthy: Eat with range, exercise for min of 15 minutes, 8 glasses of water and 7 hours of sleep. Just started but hoping having a chart to check off every night will help me stay motivated!

What is everyone else doing?

Just checking in to see how the WOAM women are doing. Now that the holidays are over, I was hoping this team would become active again. I know we got some new teammates last month and January is the time people join sites like sparkpeople. What is everyone trying to get a good start to the New Year?

I really need to watch my diet. I do good on exercise but really bad on meal planning and tracking what I eat. Thinking about going back to Phase 1 and "re-starting" the Spark People progression. Maybe that will help me change habits.

Well, have a good day and weekend.

I don't think he'll retire, he's still so young (look at Favre). I'm still spinning from what happened with Chris Henry. I'm hoping the Bengals will play with passion tomorrow.

My Team is New England Patroits. They are in the lead of the AFC East. I had an gift exchange at work today and I got a Brady jersey. I was so excited despite the fact they are not doing that great this season. Also, I heard a crazy rumor that Brady maybe retiring soon. Say it isn't so?

Clare,

This sounds goood! I will make some of these topics as part of our Team. I really want to press in personally in 2010, because I let myself go in 2009. Thanks for the ideas!

I would really love to see another goals section, but maybe broken into specifics topics. 2010 goals just sounds so general.
2010 Weight Loss Goals
2010 Diet Goals
2010 Exercise Goals
2010 Personal Goals
Other people might have more/better topics.
I think being a little more specific could help people find a buddy for 2010 to help motivate and share the victories that I hope we all have.
Just a thought...

Congrats to the Vikings on their victory today. I was disappointed in the Bengals, but the good news of the week is that Browns beat the Steelers.
Have you clenched your division now?
I'm a season ticket holder, and am hoping that we clench our division and get home field advantage so I can go to the playoff games.
Good luck on the rest of your season.

I know what you mean about "finally proud"; the Vikings don't exactly have a stellar record. My hope is that Favre can take us all the way, but the downside to that is we might regain the title of losingest SuperBowl team. Been there 4 times and never won.

Odd thing is I was living in Wisconsin when Favre took the packers to two straight SuperBowls for the first time in like 20 years. Back then there were no fair weather fans or people jumping on the band wagon. Those fans had supported the team through years of so so play and had always been there for the team. Sounds like your the say way about the Bengals. Guess we'll be rooting on opposite sides this weekend, but hope you enjoy the ride this season. They are looking good.

Enjoy the game Sunday!

I'm finally proud to say a Bengals fan. I've been through a lot with the team, but we're finally having reason to celebrate. It's been a long time coming.
Thanks for telling me about Holiday Challenge. I'll join and stay motivated.

Clare,

Yes -- YOU CAN DO IT!!! Don't let one bad day get you down. Sparkpoeple can help you stay motivated and I'm sure you'll make your goal.

There's a couple of us doing a Holiday Challenge, you'd be welcome to join us over at "Get through the Holidays Challenge" of this team. I'd put a link, but afraid I'm not good at that sort of thing.

Where do you live/what team are you following? I assume it's NFL since you mention 2 more weeks of play. I'm a Vikings Fan, but my husband is a cheesehead so also follow the Packers.

Have a Good Week.

So I didn't do so well on my goals yesterday. Sunday Fun-days are either really good or really bad.
Home football games = tailgating, beer, and bad food
Away football games = gym in the am, long walk with the dog in the afternoon, and healthy cooking
This week was a home game, so I didn't stick to my spark schedule. The good news is, I only had a hot chocolate at the stadium (it could have been much worse).
I'm refocusing this week, I'm going to try doing an exercise video in the am before work. It's also two weeks of away games, so I should be able to get back on track. I'm so close to my year end goal, I know I can do it.

Oh! Dani, have you heard of the hundreds? It's a program like a C25K, but for situps, pushups, or lunges. You figure out where you are, then follow the program, and in a couple of months, voila! You're doing a hundred of them.

I want to work through each of the programs, myself. =)

Good morning ladies

Just checking in
SW (Oct 5): 139.4

I almost forgot to do my stretching (my new habit), but remembered late last night and did 15 minutes of stretching just before I went to bed. It's probably going to be a nighttime thing, or right after a stationary bike workout. I didn't use the stationary bike yesterday, which is why I almost forgot.

Ladies,

Starting this upcoming Sunday, we are going to do a weekly challenge for October. The challenge will end up being a 21-day habit challenge. Starting Sunday, we are going to work on one challenge for 21 days in order for it to become a healthy habit. However, you are going to create the self-imposed challenge and you are going to do it for 21 days. Your challenge can be drinking eight 8-oz. of water, increase your servings of veggies to 5 servings a day, etc. So you have the next 3 days to think about the habit you want to work on. Please post it to the October Challenge Forum. We will hold each other accountable by checking in on the forum. You can check in daily, every other day, or weekly. My hope is this challenge will help us get back to business regarding our weight loss journeys.

Because I have been away from SP for a while and I really don't want to get overwhelmed again or end up overdoing it and burning out, I started my own Get Back on the Wagon Babystep Challenge and I have completed 4 days so far. The only thing I am concentrating on is doing 30 minutes of cardio a day. I am also tracking, but only to get back in the habit and I am not planning or watching it very closely. It is more for awareness than anything else because I want to eat normally, just less.

Anyone else interested in joining me?

Stevie Bee, thanks for not giving up on me! This has to be the most supportive group I have joined since I started sparkpeople. It was wonderful to have emails asking where I am and to come back soon. This summer flew by so fast! I work two jobs and recently started going back to school. I am in a health and nutrition class and it lit a fire under me to get back on spark and continue toward healthier living and exercising again. It's amazing how much of a difference it can make on your attitude when you 'fall of the horse' as Jessica723 says. I was even more thrilled to know I had a great supportive group to help me along the way. I rely very heavily on the buddy system but it is so difficult to find a buddy to stick with a diet or exercise program. I am so glad to be back and even more excited to be part of this team.

Thanks to all the wonderful women on this team, I am really looking forward to bein on a team with you!!

Well here I am again!! Things are slowing down at my new job so I have some time to sneak on here! I am just so sick and tired of getting back on the horse just to fall off again and again! I am now seeing a trainer 3 times a week... I have contracts ending in February and July so those are my goals! I want to be close to my goal weight come Feb. so I can work on defining my muscle with the trainer until July. At that point I think I will be okay to do it on my own. But I need to get back in here and get that support! Lets start new as a team and get some kick-@$$ challanges going! emoticon

IREN0169,

You have been missed. Like you stated in your post, we do need to find a way to make this a part of our lives without overdoing it. Maybe in October, we will have a new habit challenge! 21 days should be a easy challenge to get started and jump start back on our weight loss plans! This sounds like we are going to do what you suggested.

Thanks!

I have been really missing in action lately and my body is showing it! When I started SP two years ago I was really gung-ho and lost weight and then life came back into the picture. I think the goal is to find a way to make this part of our life without being overwhelmed by it or overdoing it.

They say it takes 21 days to make a habit. I personally would like to see a challenge with just one component every 3-4 weeks. IE. 30 minutes of cardio. The next month, those that have completed that habit can add strength training whereas new people can do just the strength training so they don't become overwhelmed. Make sense?

It seems we are doing this or living life and the trick is to figure out how to marry the two. Something I have great difficulty with.

BLUE_BLAZES,

I love what you stated in your posting. This has always been a great group and I miss our activity. I think the best bet would be to start back in the saddle again with our challenges: making them shorter in length (like I stated in a previous post). I love ideas and suggestions, because I do not want to be the only one who creates the challenges. So, I will incorporate what you and Anne stated into the next challenge. Keep the ideas and suggestions coming, because I really want us to truly be Women on a Mission and accomplish that mission.

Anne,

I love team competitions. We have had some successes, but we've also had some not so great successes. I think the shorter competitions will work best like you stated in your SparkMail. I will work on some shorter versions of the competition and see if we can get some greater participation and get back on track!

Thanks for your suggestion!

I keep meaning to come back and respond, but then I don't, so I suppose I should do it this time while I'm still here, huh? =)

I'm still on Spark, still active, doing the BLC11 (go Sapphires!) and just trying to make some progress and bust this plateau I've been sitting on for the past couple months. =(

This has been a really great team, but y'all are right. It's gone almost completely inactive in the past few months. We have almost a thousand members, so we should be able to get people back.

The monthly challenges were always real good. If we could get those up and running again, that would be great. I don't think it needs to be anything too fancy. We're about a week off from October, so just come up with a good basic challenge (cardio, strength training, nutrition, a combo...), open the thread, and call for sign ups. See who comes in. =)

An idea I've been knocking around a bit is some sort of Spark video challenge. Nothing too far running, at first anyway. The longer a challenge goes, the more people you lose by the end of it. =/

But maybe just make a new post every day with a link to a video, and all we have to do is reply with a 'done!' to participate. It could at least get people in. =) And we could make sure it stays on a good cycle for working the different muscle groups. You know: upper, lower, core, upper, lower, core... Like so. =)

Heck, if I can make myself remember it, I might take responsibility for that one. I need to do more strength training anyway. =)

If not now, when?

Ladies,

I am not sure what to do about the team! Like Anne stated, we are quite inactive. Our enthusiasm is not like it use to be. I know I have been extremely busy with school, work, and trying to have a personal life. Additionally, I have let myself go with terrible eating habits and hardly any workout routine. So, I know my enthusiasm has been low. But ladies, I need to know from you whether or not should we still keep this team? I love this team, but I am not too sure about what I can do to get the motivation back! Please share your thoughts!

Sincerely,

Stevie

Hi ladies

I have stayed a member of this team, even though the team has become very inactive. But I have stayed active on the SP site, and am still working on my goals. I can't say I've been very successful with weight loss, but I keep up my exercise and healthy eating (just too much of the latter!).

I'd like to see this team get going with another challenge, but Stevie's message has not had much of a response. So I'll ask the same question... Where are you?

Ladies,

Where are you? Let's get back to business! Trust me I completely understand about being busy. But we should not be too busy not to take care of ourselves. I really miss the participation of this group! So, ladies, come back and let's get back on track of our weight loss together!

I MADE IT!!. I climbed Mt. Fuji last week. I hiked all night and arrived at the summit just before sunrise. It was a wonderful experience. It was probably the most difficult thing I have ever done but I loved every minute of it. The best part is that I survived the mountain so I can survive any obstacle in my weigh. I am so glad I did it and Thanks to all of you who supported me in my quest. There is nothing you cannot do if you put your mind to it. I set a goal and achieved it. Now I know I can achieve my weight loss goals too. That cannot be as hard as climbing Fuji.

Hey there

I love the idea of learning to dance... I didn't realise You Tube had some good stuff on there, I'll check it out this morning.

If you do a miles challenge, you might want to do individual just because it's August. Lots of people squeezing in vacations and getting kids ready for back to school, so might not be on SP much.

Some ideas I had for future challenges was..

Do something new- Pick a new fitness tool or skill to add to your fitness routine. Do 2-3 times per week, then comment on it at the end of the month. i.e. kettlebell, pilates, bellydance, stability ball, yoga, kickboxing, cycling.. Has to be something you have never done.

Dance it off!- Spend 30 minutes or more a week learning a style of dance. There's oodles of free lessons on You Tube you can string together into little workouts. Salsa, Bellydance, Flamenco, Ballet. I could probably come up with some links. :)

Housework workouts- Once a week plan at least an hour long speed cleaning blitz, or a rake-a-thon outside.

I'll keep thinking about more ideas!

Ladies,

If we did a miles challenge, would you want to do it individually or on teams? We did a miles challenge before as teams last year and it was quite successful. However, with last month's team challenge, I'm a little concerned! Please let me know what you think!

Sincerely,

Stevie

Hi everyone

Stevie, I replied to your Sparkmail about the challenge, but I don't have any exciting ideas for a challenge I'm afraid. I just wanted to say that I appreciated all the effort you have put into the running of this team and that I would make more of a commitment to join in.

My involvement in Spark has been sporadic as I have four young children and I find it hard to get on-line. However, my oldest has started school and as of yesterday my youngest is now in care for a couple of hours a couple of days a week, so I will now have more time to put into Spark, and into fitting in some exercise too.

I have been struggling up to now as I don't have any time to myself at all and it was stressing me out and really getting on top of me, I was finding it hard to cope, and was struggling not to eat away my stresses. However I am determined that this is a new phase in my life where I have some afternoons to myself and I am going to really focus on getting fit, strong and healthy!

Thanks again
Jaimee

Ladies,

I sent a Sparkmail out to everyone to see what type of challenge you would like to do this month. I would like one that requires serious commitment and focus. If you have any ideas of the types of challenges you would like to see this month as well as in the future, please share them.

Sincerely,

Stevie

Ladies,

Here's a quote I belive is applicable to us:

Here is the test to find whether your mission on earth is finished; if you're alive, it isn't.

Richard Bach

So, if you still have breath in your body, you have a mission to accomplish! Let's get our focus on the mission and achieve it!
