Hi Susan!

No worries... I completely understand... you have had a very hectic schedule! That's good you're noticing patterns in eating... a definite start. :-)

My senior show went up last Thursday, so that's out of the way... I just have a few more projects and a final and I'll be done. I'm a little stressed, but it could be worse. This week I'm really going to work on eating plenty of fruits and veggies, as I've been slacking in that department lately. I've been exercising regularly, which has been good, but as always, my eating isn't up to par. I made a menu plan for this week since I finally had time (yay!) and hopefully that will help.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend and a good week!

Beth,
I am sorry that I have not been a very good buddy for the last 2 months. I promise I will do better. I have been bowling about once a week when I can.
This week is the first week since March that I have not had some one into the doctor.
As for eating we have noticed that when my husband eats 6 times a day his sugar seems to drop so we have been eating 3 times a day and I have been cutting back my portions. I am trying to use a small plate and only eat what I can fit on that plate.
I know that you are probably getting ready for finals. Don't let them stress you out. Try to have the right amount that way you are not tempted to over do it when you are studying.
Susan

I want to get into shape and to feel great.

Hi Susan!

I'm glad to hear things are looking a little brighter on your end! What a stressful time! Are things continuing to get better?

I am doing ok... I had a very bad week eating wise, but today I'm a little better. I just keep eating from stress and eating even though I'm not hungry (really silly, actually... my husband doesn't understand that. He can't fathom eating when he's not hungry... I'm so jealous!). BUT I'm really going to start physically removing myself from the kitchen and try breathing exercises or just taking a nap.

Keep up the hard work and let me know how things are!
Have you been able to bowl and/or do other exercises lately?

Take care,

Beth

Hi Beth
Things are getting better here. The specialist that my husband went to said that our doctor over reacted. There is no cancer or tumors and we don't have to move. He does have to quit smoking but he was already working on that. We do have to go to a different specialist about his hypoglycemia but hopfully we will get some answers at that appointment.
I am losing around a .5 pound and then gaining it back right now, but I really need to get back to an excerise schedule.

I want to get into shape and to feel great.

Hi Susan!

Hope things are going ok with you! I'm doing ok. I'm not losing, but I'm at least maintaining, which is ok. I've been back on a work out schedule, and I haven't overeaten by a lot in a while.

Let me know how you're doing--I can imagine this is a stressful time for you!

Susan,

No worries, I've been somewhat MIA, too, but it sounds like you have more of an excuse... wow! It's the not knowing that can be the most stressful. Let me know how the tests turn out and how the low-glycemic diet works out... what sorts of foods are acceptable/not-acceptable on that diet?

That's good your son is feeling better... one less thing to worry about!

I have had another rough week, but today was really good, so I'm hoping that it will carry me through this next week. I also prepared some healthy foods in advance today for the rest of the week, and I also was able to talk with one of my friends in my class about weightloss, which was motivating.

Keep it up and I hope things get less crazy for you! Feel free to vent anytime... :-)

Sorry that I have been MIA. It has been crazy around here. It seems like things are getting really crazy and it just seems to get worst. The doctors have no idea what is wrong with my husband. He has to go see some specialists and hopefully we will get some answers. His CBCs are way off and his sugar is crazy and nothing we have done has helped. He will probaly have to have a bone marrow bi-op on Monday and who knows what other kinds of test the Hematoligist/Oncologist will do. I am just hoping for answers.
My son is better and that is a good thing. You might have seen a town called Alamosa, Colorado on the news lately. I live 15 miles from there. So since half of Alamosa is shut down because of the Saminola (spell) we have been all of the news even on CNN.

I know that you can get back on track and tomorrow we are starting on the Low Glycemic Impact diet hoping that it might help my hubby, and I should be able to start losing so weight

Hey Susan,

I hope everything's ok with you! I've been traveling and visiting relatives and eating too many cookies and candy and not enough veggies. Lots of fruit, though, so I guess that's a good thing.

I just wanted to check in with you... I hope things calm down for you!

Oh my, you do have a lot on your plate right now! I hope things get figured out with the hypoglycema . . . that would be very stressful! My daughter has been sick too, but not with that high of a fever... she was diagnosed with an ear infection--it's her first one. It's always upsetting when kids are sick--I can imagine a really high fever like that would be really scary!! I hope everyone feels/stays better. I wish I had some good advice... hang in there! It's the stressful times that can get to you, for sure.

That's really neat your whole family is into bowling... wow! How fun! I hope when my family gets a little older and has one or two more members, we have something like that. I'd really love to live in a place that's good for biking and hiking. There are a few places here, more for hiking, but I think I'd like to get a bike and one of those little carriers with those two big wheels that you hook on the back and the little ones can ride in. :-)

Yesterday I did really well again... and I did ok today (I even passed up a big choc. chip cookie!) until about lunch time, when I started reading about leasing an apartment in Florence (the contract is so confusing!) and trying to figure out what paperwork and payments need to be in. That stressed me, so I overate on bread and then later I ate some choc./pb bars. I definitely overate, but on the positive side, I'm really starting to know for sure the reasons I'm eating. I used to just eat without knowing or caring why... now I just need to use my newfound knowledge and use it to eat when I'm hungry. :-)

I'm headed to Indiana for the weekend, so hopefully I'll stay ok... I'll be at other people's houses, so I can't raid the fridge at least. :-) My goal is to really focus on eating healthy during the actual car ride and try to get enough fruits and veggies, and to continue listening to when I'm really hungry.

Take care--I'll be thinking about you and hoping things start to look less stressful!

I am so glad that you are doing better. Right now I have been so busy, stressed, and tired that I know that I am not eating enough and when I do have time to eat it is not always the right kind of food. It has been so crazy around here. I told you that my husband was diagonised with hypoglycemea (spell) well eating 6 times a day is just not helping. The doctor has no idea what to do so now he has to go to a specialist. I am really hoping that the specialist can tell us what we need to be doing. Today I had both my middle son and my husband into the doctor so I spent 2 hours in the doctor's office. My son has the influenza. Last night I did not get much sleep because I was a nervous wreck because his temp was 103.8 the highest he has ever had and I could not get it to go down no matter what I did. I barely go him to the doctor with in the 48 hour period so that we could get him started on Tama-flu. So now my whole family is on Tama-flu that way hopefully no body else gets it. Then with remodeling and everything else it has been so crazy. I have not even been able to work for 2 weeks it is a good thing that I can set my own hours and as long as I have my 100 hours by the end of the month my boss does not care.

My husband or I should say my family got into bowling a year ago. It is great exercise, but I am not very good. I am looking for a coach, but where I live there is not much of a choice. My husband bowls in league 3 times a week and right now I am a sub on a team one night a week. I had knee surgery in October, so I could not start the season out. Both of my boys are in Jr. League and they love it. My youngest son took 4 place out of 39 kids and my oldest took 11th in their big tourney this month. My boys are 7 and 5 and they competed against 5 to 11 year olds. We are really proud of them. I want my boys to understand that exercise is fun and that there are a lot of different ways that they can excerise.

I want to get into shape and to feel great.

That's a good idea... the brushing of the teeth... I've done that a few times... but usually it's a little later than I would have liked. Maybe I should do that... definitely a possibility.

I did much better today. I didn't count calories, but I took my time eating and really tried to listen to when my body was full. I also distracted myself by leaving the kitchen when I felt cravings coming on. It took a lot of de-stressing and reminding myself that it's not the end of the world if I don't stay ahead in every single area of my life.

And I can't thank you enough for your support... seriously... I know it probably doesn't sound like it, but I really am doing better than I was!

Ok... here's what my menu looked like today.

Breakfast: Medium apple, granola bar
Snack: Cajun snack mix... just a handful
Lunch: 1 cup tomato soup w/ 1 piece toast and smart balance light
Snack: Granola bar, apple
Dinner: Italian sandwich melt... basically a piece of bread w/ red peppers, banana peppers, baby greens, tomatoes, pepperoncini, and a little cheese on it, 1.5 choc./pb bars.
Snack: Animal crackers with my daughter... I did eat a few more than I should have, but it wasn't overload.

Oh... I keep forgetting to ask... do you bowl professionally? I know you keep talking about bowling... that's so neat! I've never been good at it, but my husband and I used to bowl more often. :-)

Beth I know that you will be able to come up with something so that you will not over do it on the sweet stuff. Have you tried brushing your teeth after the first or second helping of the sweet stuff. People say that helps.

I completely understand difficult weekends... especially when someone else is cooking. Today is a new day, and so is tomorrow, so I'm sure you'll jump right back! :-)

I did well today... until my meeting at 6:00pm and they had St. Patty cookies... and I had 2, which was ok... but then I got home and overdid it on my choc-peanut butter bars. They're semi-healthy (basically puffed millet with melted brown rice syrup, peanut butter, and dark choc. chips) but still really really high in calories and fat. I think I ate 4 or 5 ... BLAH! I don't understand why I can't just stop at one or even just two. I did avoid the Oreo's, though, and I did ok staying on my plan the rest of the day. I need to come up with a plan for when I want to eat something outside of my meal plan. .. something practical and easy and that I will remember. I'll think about it and get back to you. Meanwhile... here's my food for the day.

Breakfast: 1 medium apple, 1 Luna Bar
Snack: leftovers of my daughter's granola bar
Lunch: Salad, 1/2 oz pecans
Snack: Kashi granola bar, orange, 2 St. Patty's day cookies
Dinner: 2 cups Tomato soup, 1.5 slices bread w/ smart balance light ... and the disastrous 4 or 5 choc/pb bars

Hope this week goes well for you!

This weekend was a hard weekend. We went on a little road trip too, and since my sister is here from Texas on Spring Break my mom cooked. That was all on Saturday and today I have been to tired to even think about what I am eating. Tomorrow is a new day and I will be a lot better. I really can't wait for bedtime LOL.

Planing out your meals makes a huge difference. And it is a good idea to put in a small amount of sweets and the right kinds of fat.

I made it back! Woohoo! I even managed to lose a 1/2 pound... not sure how but I was happy. We only stopped for one meal (breakfast... which was a veggie bagel sandwich with too much cheese... but it was really good), so I missed dinner on Friday and lunch and dinner on Saturday, but it was ok b/c I snacked on Kashi Sesame Crackers, home-made trail mix (honey nut cheerios, raisins, peanuts, and dark choc. chips), and Triscuits, and lots of diet pepsi and water to stay awake while driving.

Ok... so that was my road trip. Today I just plain overdid it with the snacking, but I have everything set out for tomorrow already, with the correct portion sizes and everything. I'm also going to try and plan in sweets/fattening things into my meal plans. I usually don't plan them in, thinking that I just won't eat any, but then I end up eating a LOT and going over. So, this week, I'm planning some in, but in small portions, of course, and setting it out the night before so I know what one portion looks like. That will be my experiment this week!

Have a wonderful week!

You have self-control... that's so hard to resist when everyone else is diving in. Way to fight it! I just wanted to let you know I'm taking a quick road trip and will be back late tomorrow, so I don't know when I'll be able to post next. I'm taking lots of apples and granola bars, so hopefully I stay on track for the most part! Keep it up!

I stuck to my meal plan yesterday and I did not snack on anything extra. I also avoided a hugh temptation last night. My bowling team decided to order pizza. I was glad that I had eaten supper and was not hungry and the best part was that the pizza did not even smell good! I did move down the table away from the pizza though, I just did not want to watch every one else eating it.

The weather here in Colorado changes so fast. It is supposed to snow today, but I am really hoping that it does not. We are supposed to go to Denver tomorrow which is about a 4 hour drive.

Good job on overcoming that craving... that really is a feat! :-) And way to go with losing the 2 lbs... also no small feat. :-)

I did do better today, even though I did go over a little--I didn't go nuts like I did yesterday.

Breakfast: 1 small apple w/ 1.5 cups oatmeal w/ agave nectar and .5 oz pecans
Lunch: 1.5 serving of Bombay Bowl w/ tomatoes and green chilies, 1 small tortilla, 1/2 cup ice cream
Snack: Kashi Almond Flax bar
Dinner: 1/2 serving barley, bean, and chard soup, 2 english muffins w/ smart balance light, 1 pretzel, some fries from my hubby's plate (I really need to stop that).

I live in Ohio... too cold for me, but it works for now. :-) How's the weather in Colorado?

You will do better today.
Yesterday I stuck to my meal plan even though I had a craving for a nasty Sonic hamburger. I really did not want to gain back the 2 lbs that I lost this week so that was all the movation that I needed to stay home and stick to my plan.
I did have a cookie and a hand full of almonds last night but I stayed pretty close to my calorie range.

Beth where do you live? I am in Colorado

Way to stick with it, Susan! Moving things would be exercise... how fun to redo a living room, though!

I had a bit of rough day yesterday when I got home after painting. I did some emotional eating, but I did stop myself and brushed my teeth and left the kitchen before I did even more damage.

And I also made it to the gym for 30 min... I burned 400 calories on the elliptical, so that was good.

I'm not sure how many calories I had yesterday... I just know I went over.

B: 1/2 cup nonfat yogurt w/ 1/2 Kashi GoLean Original Cereal, 1/2 oz. peanuts and 1/4 cup raspberries
Snack: 1 small apple
Lunch: 1 Everything Bagel (no butter or cream cheese), 1 small soy white mocha latte
Snack: Kashi Almond Flax granola bar, Crystal Light Live Active drink, 2 rice cakes
Dinner: Hubby made it... sauteed green peppers, onions, and mushrooms in olive oil on a tortilla. Just had one.

And... then it got bad.
Emotional Eating: 2 rice cakes w/ peanut butter, 2 oreos, 3 handfuls of choc. chips w/ chow mein noodles (ok... that doesn't even sound good!), and 1 banana with peanut butter. Oh and a piece of bread w/ peanut butter. *sigh* Apparently I was in a peanut butter mood.

So... today's another day and so far so good! I'm headed outside to play with my daughter because it's beautiful out there!

Beth I am on the Eating for Life diet. I really try to stick with the meal plan every day. I really like it because I can still eat the things that I like and have tried some new things that are really good.
Today I had
Breakfast bowl of cereal with milk
Snack was 1/2 of a ham sandwich (one piece of bread and 2 oz of ham)
Lunch was a bean a cheese tostada
Snack was a strawberry freeze
Dinner was 4 oz steak cooked on my George Forman and a very small baked potato with a tbl spoon of ranch
and I have not had snack tonight but I will have something small not sure what it is supposed to be.

Exercise is removing the wainscoat in my living room. My hubby told me that I could redo the living room and I got started before he could change his mind.

I want to get into shape and to feel great.

You're on a roll! You have such nice, even eating patterns. :-)

Yup... my family is coming w/ me to Italy. My husband graduates in May and we'll leave a week after that so I can finish my degree up in Italy. :-)

I completely guessed on my calories today, but I tried to over-estimate rather than under-estimate. According to my guesses, I'm at about 1770 for today, which is a little over, but I didn't go overboard too much.... I took your advice and stamped some cards... :-)

Breakfast: Apple, 1 serving Cream of Wheat w/ a little agave nectar
Lunch: Barley, Bean, and Chard Soup w/ 2.5 oz of bread w/ 1 tbsp Smart Balance Light
Snack: 1 oz. salt and vinegar chips, 1 rice cake, 1 Kashi Almond Flax Granola bar
Dinner: "Bombay Bowl" (a spicy potato and chickpea salad) with some quinoa (a 1/4 cup cooked)
Dessert: 2.5 pieces fudge, 2 small handfuls butterscotch chips. I promise they were small... but I probably still shouldn't have eaten them!

Oh, and I had one of those Crystal Light Live Active drinks... 10 calories. I know they're not great for you... but today I was really craving something sweet.

Have a wonderful day!

Susan,

So far, so good! Way to watch the portion control... I know how it goes when the husband cooks... it's wonderful, but definitely have to watch the portions. :-) And three cookies isn't so naughty... treats are good and you were moderate about it. :-)

Today I'm at about 1329 calories... probably a few more... I snuck 5 fries off my husband's plate, but that's not really enough to set me over my limit, so yay!

Here's the list for today:
Breakfast: 3/4 cup oatmeal, 1 small apple
Lunch: Panera Bread's veggie soup w/ whole grain baguette and 1/4 of the portabella and mozzarella panini
Snack: Small caffe latte w/ soy milk, 1/4 oz. of pecans, 1/2 oz. mozzarella cheese
Dinner: Salad (spinach, tom., cuc., baked tofu, chow mein noodles w/ 1.5 tbsp. Goddess Dressing)
Snack: 1/2 small box raisins, 3/4 of a Kashi crunchy bar

I did well today on portions... I ate a lot of different foods, but didn't eat a lot of one thing. This is really helping me... yay! Also, I'm on spring break, so I'm less stressed than I normally would be. Hopefully this week will help give me a jumpstart for when school starts again.

Also... I just had to share... I got my acceptance letter for Italy! I'm planning on studying abroad for 9 weeks over the summer (leaving end of May) ... so I am SOO excited. Also a tad stressed b/c of everything I have to get ready. I just had to share!

Have a wonderful week and thanks for the fantastic support!

Great job on not snacking all day today and keeping your calories under control.

I am not sure how many calories I had today. Hubby decided that he needed to make scrambled egges, bacon (turkey), hash browns and toast for breakfast today. I did not want to hurt his feelings so I had a little bit of everything. I kept my portions under control.
Since we ate at like 11:00 am I did not eat lunch, but I had a snack of Melba toast with about 1 oz of cheese and some rasins for snack.
For supper I had a big salad with about 2 tablespoons of lite dressing and about 3 oz of left over spagetti.
Then I got really naughty and made some cookies and had 3 with 1/2 a glass of milk.

I did get in some cardio today though about 45 minutes of bowling. I would have gotten more but Annika, my daughter was in one of those moods.

I love to scrapbook too, but I am way behind!

Susan,

I love that you crochet! That's so neat... I wish I could crochet or knit. I really love stamping ... I make cards and I scrapbook... I just get lazy about it b/c it can make a mess. But maybe I'll move it to a more accessible location so I can get to it faster when I need some instant stress relief. Good idea! And cleaning and laundry should count as exercise. :-) I maintain that vacuuming does... that was my cleaning for the day. :-)

Ok... here's what I ate today... I have a 'date' with my hubby and I'm having some rum and diet pepsi together as a treat, but that's it. Including the rum, I'm at 1333 calorie today. Yay!

Breakfast:
1 cup cream of wheat, 1 small apple, 1 piece of whole wheat bread w/ smart balance light
Lunch:
1 cup spinach w/ one roma tomato, 1/2 oz. of tortilla chips, and 1/4 cup salsa with 2/3 cup veg. chili (yum!)
Dinner:
1 cup mixed fruit, 1.5 pieces bread w/ smart balance light
Snack:
2 oz. rum w/ diet coke (date night w/ hubby!)

Beth, don't stress. Try having a bottle of water with you all the time and when you want to snack drink the water instead or if you like gum chew it instead of eating. It really helps. If you use Extra gum it has only 5 calories per slice. It does not sound like you are hungry when you are snacking, just wanting something to do with your mouth and hands. Keep your hands busy when you get the erge (spell) to munch it helps to. I like to crochet because it keeps my hands busy and then I have something to show for it.

Yesterday I ate
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs and ham with cheese (2 eggs, 1/2 oz of ham and 1/2 oz of cheese)
Lunch: Chicken (3 oz), rasin (2 tbs), apple (1 small)mixed with 1 1/2 tbs of mayo, salad on 3 cups of lettuce.
Dinner: a small bowl of spagetti (spell)
I did drink a big can of Arizona Sweet tea
I stayed with in my calorie range, but I am not sure if I really ate enough.
I did not get in any cardio though, my son was sick. I did clean house and do laundry though LOL.

I want to get into shape and to feel great.

Alright ladies. It wasn't the best of first days... you are going to be thinking I'm pretty much hopeless... I'm sort of feeling that way currently. I've had 1800+ calories. :-( Probably pushing 2000. I'm not sure of the exact count b/c I ended up eating dinner at my parents, but that's me guessing.

On the plus side, I took my daughter sledding for an hour. Walking up steep hills in a good foot and a half of snow was lots of exercise!

Here is what I ate today... I PROMISE to you guys and to myself that I will do better tomorrow. I think I'm going to write down what I eat each day for a week or two ... and then maybe I'll go to just calories after that.

Breakfast:
1/2 cup nonfat yogurt w/ 1/2 cup Kashi GoLean Cereal and 1/4 cup frozen raspberries (YUM!)
Snack: mini cinnamon rolls (too many...)
Lunch: 1 piece bread w/ smart balance, Kashi Honey Almond Flax bar
Snack: snow ice cream (just one serving... no idea how many calories), potato chips to test hot sauces with... long story.
Dinner: Oven-baked potatoes (about 5 slices... about one medium potato), 1/2 cup fruit salad (just fruit, no special toppings or dressings), 3 slices bread (OUCH... I took the last one to make my mouth stop burning from the hot sauce... but still, way overeating), and one piece of oatmeal chocolate cake.
Snack: A few salt and vinegar chips with my hubby. Ok... a few more than a few.

So... My analysis of today: too much non-thinking food... i.e. I just sort of ate w/o thinking about it. Also, I need to be prepared for when I eat at places other than home.

Sorry this is so long ... Hopefully I'll be more on schedule tomorrow and not caught off guard.

Thanks for helping me ladies!

I love it here! That made me laugh, Susan... about your kids being 7 and almost 6 and 4... I'm sure they are still a handful. :-)

We can just post it here, if you'd like... maybe starting tomorrow? My goal is to keep under 1560 calories, and if I do go over, to not go over by much... I tend to have either wonderful days or horrible days.

Thanks again... You have no idea how much I appreciate it!

Some sort of accountability sounds great. I am a busy mom, but that is one reason why I want to loose weight. I want my kids to grow up healthy and not have to worry about it like I do. I love my parents but they are now struggling to eat and be healthy now too. My dad has high blood pressure and is on a diabetic. My husband has high blood pressure and is hypoglycamic, so we eat six small meals a day.

Maybe to start out with we should log what we eat everyday and how many minutes of exercise either cardio, strenght or the combo of the two. We can post it here or on each others page. Just let me know where to post and where it would be best to encourage you at and I will be there to do it.

Susan

PS I guess I better update my sparkspage. My kids are now 7, almost 6 and almost 4 LOL.

I want to get into shape and to feel great.

Beth I agree a buddy is a great idea. I get frustrated because no matter how much exercise I do or how well I eat the scale stays the same. I can always use the extra support and I am very willing to give support to some one else.

Beth, I could buddy up with you, too. Just sent a sparkmail to someone and ask. I'm sure someone would be more than happy to buddy up with you. emoticon

Hi Lovely Ladies of WOAM,

I'm wondering if anyone is willing to be my buddy! I'm fairly consistent with exercise, but I am really really struggling with food ... I tend to do well for a few days... then I just go overboard. I'd love some accountability and support. I really just want to re-develop some good habits that I lost the past few semesters of school. I'm really working on developing a healthier mindset.

~Beth
