COMPETITION

Life is competitive. There is always someone better than you, and there is always pressure to catch up and exceed the expectations that have been set. The competition is always hot on your heels. But just who is this competition?

You.

That’s right, whatever you did last sets your standard. You can always improve. You can always be kinder. You can always be faster. You can always be smarter. You can just keep getting better. That’s what self-improvement is all about.

And you can always be happier, too.

"Love God in front of others, and love others in front of God."

"The most self-destructive thought that any person can have is thinking that he or she is not in total control of his or her life. That's when, 'Why me?' becomes a theme song."

Invisible Mother......

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be
taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?'

Obviously, not. No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom. Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this?

Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'

I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated sum a cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going; she's going; she is gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England .. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.' It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription:

'To Charlotte , with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.'

In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could
pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished.

They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird
on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it.' And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.'

I closed the book, feeling th e missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become.'

At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.

I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on
something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because the re are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table.' That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, 'you're going to love it there.'

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

Great Job, MOM!
Share this with all the Invisible Moms you know...I just did.
Hope this encourages you when the going gets tough as it sometimes does.

Track and field would be an event of interest to me as well as I was a runner in high school (those were the good old days).

Well, I recommend to anyone, whether you like the olympics or not, to do a Goggle search on Dara Torres, the 41 year old swimmer. She has an amazing body for a 41 year old. Also, she did amazing at the games this year! She looks great! She gave me some serious motivation on getting my best body ever! Additionally, I love track and field and seeing those ladies with those sexy, toned muscles has given me a vision of how I could look with much discipline and focus!

Anyone becoming motivated to workout due to the Olympics? My favorite events in the Olympics are finally on: Track and Field. The bodies on those runners make we want to go out and run for miles. They are so toned! Also, what about Dara Torres, the 41 year old swimmer who took a few silver medals? Wow, that woman looks amazing! I wonder how many of us are willing to do half of what those athletes do to get the toned physiques they have? Things that make you go Hmm!

Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever There were times when I wondered if I would make it to today; but I did! And because I did I'm going to celebrate! Today, I'm going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far: the accomplishments, the many blessings, and, yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger.

I will go through this day with my head held high and a happy heart. I will marvel at God's seemingly simple gifts: the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds.

Today, none of these miraculous creations will escape my notice. Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I'll make someone smile. I'll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don't even know. Today, I'll give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down. I'll tell a child how special he is, and I'll tell someone I love just how deeply I care for them and how much they mean to me.

Today is the day I quit worrying about what I don't have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things God has already given me. I'll remember that to worry is just a waste of time because my faith in God and his Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine. And tonight, before I go to bed, I'll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens. I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon, and I will praise God for these magnificent treasures.

As the day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow, I will thank the Almighty for the best day of my life. And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child, excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, ever!

Do you want something better for yourself?

What is stopping you from achieving your goals?

Is it the lack of money? The lack of time? Bad economical situation in your country?

Or is it... you?

We all have the capacity to create the life we want, to enjoy the abundance of health, wealth and happiness every single day. No matter what your situation is the only limiting block to your success is YOU.

Some of your beliefs, thoughts, and emotions are PREVENTING you from turning your dreams into tangible everyday reality.

Detach and Live

Detachment involves present-moment living - living in the here and now. We allow life to happen instead of forcing and trying to control it. We relinquish regrets over the past and fears about the future. We make the most of each day.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.
Live simply and appreciate what you have.
Give more.
Expect less.

God Bless!

Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive.

I asked God for water, He gave me an ocean.
I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden.
I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU...
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God.

Ladies,

Here are some motivational quotes on perseverance!

* Energy and persistence conquer all things. Benjamin Franklin

* Defeat is simply a signal to press onward. Helen Keller

* Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them - every day begin the task anew. Saint Francis de Sales

* When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. Franklin D. Roosevelt

* If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down. Mary Pickford

* Great changes may not happen right away, but with effort even the difficult may become easy. Bill Blackman

* A man of sense is never discouraged by difficulties; he redoubles his industry and his diligence, he perseveres, and infallibly prevails at last. Lord Chesterfield

* Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.
Theodore Roosevelt

* My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure. Abraham Lincoln

* Good ideas are not adopted automatically. They must be driven into practice with courageous patience. Admiral Hyman Rickover

* You will come to know that what appears today to be a sacrifice will prove instead to be the greatest investment that you will ever make. Gorden B. Hinkley

* I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature. John D. Rockefeller

* I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward. Thomas A. Edison

Ladies, stay encouraged during these challenges! Just know you will win the prize if you persevere and endure until the end! Once more, you are worth the time and the effort!

Sincerely,

Stevie

I hope this brings a smile to your faces as it did mine:
-------------------
Thanks to You!

I just want to thank all of you for your educational emails over the past year.

Thanks to you, I no longer open a public bathroom door without using a paper towel.

I can't use the remote in a hotel room because I don't know what the last person was doing while flipping through the channels.

I can't sit down on the hotel bedspread because I can only imagine what has happened on it since it was last washed.

I can't enjoy lemon slices in my tea or on my seafood anymore because lemon peels have been found to contain all kinds of nasty germs including feces.

I have trouble shaking hands with someone who has been driving because the number one pass-time while driving alone is picking your nose.

Eating a Little Debbie sends me on a guilt trip because I can only imagine how many gallons of trans fats I have consumed over the years.

I can't touch any woman's purse for fear she has placed it on the floor of a public bathroom.

I must send my special thanks to whoever sent me the one about poop in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet sponge with every envelope! that needs sealing.

Also, now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason.

I no longer have any savings because I gave it to a sick girl (Penny Brown) who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time.

I no longer have any money at all, but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.

I no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me, and St. Theresa's novena has granted my every wish.

I no longer eat KFC because their chickens are actually horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers.

I no longer use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day.

Thanks to you, I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward an email to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.

Because of your concern I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet stains.

I no longer can buy gasoline without taking someone along to watch the car so a serial killer won't crawl in my back seat when I'm pumping gas.

I no longer drink Pepsi or Dr Pepper since the people who make these! products are atheists who refuse to put 'Under God' on their cans.

I no longer use Saran wrap in the microwave because it causes cancer.

And thanks for letting me know I can't boil a cup of water in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face...disfiguring me for life.

I no longer check the coin return on pay phones because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS.

I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.

I no longer receive packages from UPS or FedEx since they are actually Al Qaeda in disguise.

I no longer shop at Target since they are French and don't support our American troops or the Salvation Army.

I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for or which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica, Uganda, Singapore and Uzbekistan.

I no longer buy expensive cookies from Neiman Marcus since I now have their recipe.

Thanks to you, I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat to cause me instant death when it bites my butt.

And thanks to your great advice, I can't ever pick up $5.00 dropped in the parking lot because it probably was placed there by a sex molester waiting underneath my car to grab my leg.

Have a wonderful day...

That is so cool. I have caught myself snapping at my sons before. I have to remember this and try to treat them better than the people I don't have relationships with.

F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
'Oh excuse me please' was my reply.

He said, 'Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you.'

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
'Move out of the way,' I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed, God's still small voice came to me and said,

'While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use, but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes.'

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
'Wake up, little one, wake up,' I said.

'Are these the flowers you picked for me?'
He smiled, 'I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue.'

I said, 'Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today; I shouldn't have yelled at you that way.'

He said, 'Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway.'

I said, 'Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue.'

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don't you think? So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

May I suggest you guys check out this guy's story. His daughter had GBS (GBS is Guillain-Barré syndrome - it is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system.) and this January he decided he was going to do a 5K run for her as she is no longer able to run.
Well, 6/6/08 was his goal date, and he made a YouTube video for her as he couldn't be with her physically.

Here is his YouTube link:

almond chips, baby carrots, suarless gum, and if you are with someone, play road games, like finding license plates from every state, finding letters in alphatic order on road signs, etc., also a dried fruit and nut mix is good

Found this cool quote today!
Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality of those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change.

40 Tips for a Better Life in 2008

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

3. Buy a DVR and tape your late night shows and get more sleep.

4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement,'My purpose is to __________ today.'

5. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

6. Play more games and read more books than you did in 2007.

7. Make time to practice meditation and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.

9. Dream more while you are awake.

10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts

12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.

14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, OR issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the NEGATIVE BLUES away.

18. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

20. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

22. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

23. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'

26. Forgive everyone for everything.

27. What other people think of you is none of your business.

28. REMEMBER GOD heals everything.

29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

30. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

31. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful
or joyful.

32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

33. The best is yet to come.

34. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

35. Do the right thing!

36. Call your family often. (Or email them to death!!!)

37. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.

38. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

39. Enjoy the ride. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

God Bless!

Remember that what you put in your mouth is your responsibility. While others may tempt you, ultimately you’re in charge of your own life.

"Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine. Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Love the ones who don't just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Kiss slowly. Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would
be worth it.

Just wanted to say that one of the greatest things for me to see is a group of strong ladies working hard to get what they want out of life! Bravo!!!!

I'm very excited to be 4 lbs. from my weight goal! when I get there I will focus on working out, muscle toning, and healthy food choices. Not so much on calories!!! This I'm excited about, because I believe SP gave me the skills I need to eat right, and feel confident not logging food and calories any more. I'm on mission flab now. I have some real lose areas still from losing weight and having the baby in November!

Wish me luck ladies... You are all in my thoughts!

I track all of my exercise on SPARK, and I actually do a lot of the ones they have on this site. My favorite form of cardio is walking, I love walking. I do crunches every day, trying to get rid of this belly, and I work with 8 pound dumbbells for upper body and upper arms.

Great - I NEED to be made to get on the site daily and report. My husband and I have agreed to use our stationary bike 30min a day so I will report on the success of that:-) What is your fav form of exercise? Have you been having success with this system? I'm sure I can make it work if I only use it to it's full potential.
Thank you.

How about we partner up for exercise accountability? We should do some form of exercise everyday - or a minimum of 5 days per week. I try to do something everyday, some days more than others. How does that sound? And we can hold each other accountable through Spark email or we can post here, whichever you are most comfortable with.

I know I need to be kept accountable for my time - I find it too easy to ignore the site and my exercise plans when I don't have to let anyone know what I am up to. I don't know what kind of help would work for that but I am open to ideas.

Hello Ladies,
I think I'm finally ready to make the most of the team!! I have settled into a fairly regular schedule so now it's time to add fitness. Is there anyone willing to kick this girl's behind now and then?? I will gladly return the favour to keep each other on track.
Thanks

Sounds like you had a balance there, Steph - while the crying does tend to drain you, the laughter does just the opposite.

Well, at my Ladies Conference at church, I did my fair sharing of laughing and crying. I did not know how much exertion it takes out of you when you cried as hard as some of these ladies and myself cried tonight! Whew!

Plus, laughing is actually a great tummy exercise. Think about it ~~ when you laugh really hard, your sides and stomach hurt. So, find a good joke and work those abs. emoticon

"Humor is a necessary ingredient in life."

I whole heartedly agree with this one. We need to be able to laugh at ourselves from time to time, and we also just need to laugh more, period. As they say, laughter is the best medicine for whatever ails ya'.

A PLACE FOR ME

There is a special place in life,
that needs my humble skill,
A certain job I'm meant to do,
which no one else can fulfill.

The time will be demanding,
the pay is not too good,
and I wouldn't change it
for a moment, even if I could.

There is a special place in life.
A goal I must attain,
a dream that I must follow.
Because I won't be back again.
There is a mark that I must leave.
However small it seems to be.
A legacy of love for those
who follow after me.

There is a special place in life,
that only I may share.
A little path that bears my name,
awaiting me somewhere.

There is a hand that I must hold,
a word that I must say,
a smile that I must give,
for there are tears to blow away.

There is a special place in life
that I was meant to fill.
A sunny spot where flowers grow,
upon a windy hill.

There's always a tomorrow and the best is yet to be,
for somewhere in this world, I know there is a place for me.

Have a blessed day! emoticon emoticon

I know we discussed this earlier this month. Does everyone who wanted a fitness buddy have one? If not, please let me know and we can work something out. Fitness Buddies are two or more people who commit to helping each other reach consistent goals with friendly encouragement and regular contact. So please respond if you are really wanting a fitness buddy and are ready to be committed to another WOAM. Two are better than one! So, if you are ready for accountability, motivation, and consistency, please respond, because sometimes you may just need someone to vent to about the perils of weight loss or you may need to encourage someone else to continue to strive towards her goals!

Sincerely,

Steph

Whatever your cross, whatever your pain, there will always be sunshine, after the rain....
Perhaps you may stumble, perhaps even fall; But God's always ready, to answer your call....
He knows every heartache, sees every tear, a word from His lips, can calm every fear...
Your sorrows may linger, throughout the night, But suddenly vanish, dawn's early light...
The Savior is waiting, somewhere above, to give you His grace, and send you His love...

Well, TEXASTITCHER - after reading your post, I have one to share as well.
-------------
Have You Ever?

Ever wake up and don't want to get out of bed?
Ever fall asleep wondering how you made it through another day?
Ever spend an evening alone thinking how you can be where you are today?
Ever wonder why the chic down the street acts like a tramp but is married and you're not?
Ever think about how someone else's child seems to be on the right path and yours acts like they have lost their mind?
Ever wonder why your finances are always messed up and you can never see light at the end of the tunnel?
Ever wonder why Ms Thang next door is so cute and fine and you have a hard time staying away from the table and keeping ten pounds off?
Ever think about why your husband seems to be the only one in your circle of friends that still hasn't gotten herself together?
Ever wonder why you're still single?
Ever wonder why the person you love doesn't love you back?
The answer all of these questions could have me writing for days. But, if any of these are you, the Holy Spirit sent me by today to give you some extra fuel.
You wake up and keep going because God has a plan for you (Jer 29:11).
You make it day by day because God ain't through with you yet. You're alone or single because God is doing some things in you. Don't get it twisted! It's not that he "just hasn't found you"; it's also because if he did find you, you wouldn't be ready! God is perfecting some things within you. Stop looking around thinking it's the other person. Nope! It's you! There may be something wrong with them, but before you hook up, God wants to get some things right with you!
So, stop looking around wondering why God seems to be passing out blessings but for some reason He passed your door! God passed your door on purpose. Don't talk about other people's glory, cuz you don't know their story!
You don't know why the "tramp" down the street is married. You don't know how she got her man, and you don't know what she's going through to keep him! Remember, the Bible says, 'the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the righteous!' My sister, that's YOU! We are so quick to look at what God is doing in others. We have to learn to pay more attention to what God is doing in SELF.
I know, it's hard...because the truth is, you think you have it all together. You think you're ok! With a few adjustments, you'll be ahead of your game! Think again...those few adjustments are just the areas that God needs to fix before He moves you forward.
Do the Godly things "in spite of" that disobedient child, and/or dishonorable husband, and watch them watch you as God fixes the situation. You are the change agent! As they see the change in you, they'll be inspired to move!
Fuel is what you need. Yes, you need fuel to be what God wants you to be. Well, did you stop by the fuel station? The church? That's where your main source of fuel comes from. If not, be not dismayed, God is so awesome, that He sent fuel right to your front door in the form of an email. He's awesome like that! He knew just what you'd need, when you'd need it! Now that you have it, what are you going to do with it?

This is your fuel for today.
Don't keep it to yourself, pass it on!
Gas is high!
Don't be stingy, God is getting ready to work.
Give this fuel in the form of action to yourself, then your children, husband, co-workers, whoever may need it! Pass it on! God gave it to you, so that you might give it to others. Go ahead, don't be afraid...remember, if He did it for you, He'll do it for us ALL!

"Love God in front of others, and love others in front of God."

"The most self-destructive thought that any person can have is thinking that he or she is not in total control of his or her life. That's when, 'Why me?' becomes a theme song."

I received this message today and wanted to share it with you.

A cup of coffee

A group of alumni, all highly established in their respective careers, got together for a visit with their old university professor. The conversation soon turned to complaints about the endless stress of work and life in general...

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went into the kitchen and soon returned with a large pot of coffee and an eclectic assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal - some plain, some expensive, some quite exquisite. Quietly he told them to help themselves to some fresh coffee...

When each of his former students had a cup of coffee in hand, the old professor quietly cleared his throat and began to patiently address the small gathering...

''You may have noticed that all of the nicer looking cups were taken up first, leaving behind the plainer and cheaper ones. While it is only natural for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is actually the source of much of your stress-related problems...''

''Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In fact, the cup merely disguises or dresses up what we drink. What each of you really wanted was coffee, not a cup, but you instinctively went for the best cups...then you began eyeing each other's cups....''

''Now consider this: Life is coffee. Jobs, money, and position in society are merely cups. They are just tools to shape and contain life, and the type of cup we have does not truly define nor change the quality of the Life we live...''

''Often, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee that God has provided us... God brews the coffee, but he does not supply the cups. Enjoy your coffee!''

The happiest people don't have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything they have...

So please remember: Live simply. Love generously. Care Deeply. Speak Kindly.
Leave the Rest to God.

Ladies,

Don't forget to take time out for yourselves to rest and relax! Make sure you take a hot bath with candles and some instrumental music of some sort, not a shower. Go out and get a massage, a manicure, or a pedicure. Go treat yourself to a makeover at the mall. Sometimes, they are free or buy a new eye liner or lipstick. Spend time on yourself because you are worth the time and effort of workout yes, but you are worth the rest and relaxation.

Sincerely,

Steph

I love having access to this team while I'm on the road. It helps keep me accountable and motivated.

I'm out-of-town on biz (arrived yesterday after a headshaking travel day). I was able to get back on track tho. One of the first things was to check out the fitness center. I was there before breakfast this morning.

I brought 2 dvd's - yoga and exercise band - that I can play on my laptop. To my delight my room has a dvd/vhs player. Yeah!

My room has a fridge, micro, little stove, etc. The supermarket is nearby. So I have NO EXCUSES. Repeat, no excuses.

Thanks everyone for this forum - J

I am sure most of you know about the appointment feature already, but I just now discovered that I can set it up so it sends me an email everday to remind me to add my nutritional information.
I also set up another appointment to send me an email every Saturday to remind me to make a meal plan for the week.
When I get really busy, I tend to 'forget' to watch what I eat so the emails will help a lot.
Hope this helps someone - Best to all.

RECIPES!

Since I started at SP I have loved using the recipe calculator to figure out the nutrients of recipes I invent. At this point I have five posted to share! Since the holidays are past, probably no one will be especially interested in the cranberry relish right now, but the other four are for anytime.

The muesli has 7 grams of protein per serving! Note: a serving is just half a cup; it has lots of nuts, so you feel satisfied with a small amount--especially if you put blueberries &/or bananas on top!

OK, I'll stop writing about food--I'm making myself hungry. Here's a link where you can find my recipes & rate them if you try them out: recipes.sparkpeople.com/more-about-m
e.
asp?user=2250442#recipes

Generally, it's very motivating to find that I can really, really enjoy food WHILE losing weight. My eating is much more mindful than it used to be, & often I am having very intense experiences of pleasure as I taste food. What a blessing!

Ladies,

Throughout the year, I am going to post some weekly challenges for us to accomplish in order to break out of our comfort zones. This will be a call to action as well as challenging us to do something new in order for us not to plateau in our weight loss journey. I will post these weekly challenges a week in advance, so, we can be ready to accomplish them in the upcoming week. Week by week, you'll focus on meeting these goals one at a time. By the end of the Challenge, you'll be a triple threat — with the right attitude and strong skills when it comes to nutrition, fitness, and emotional well-being. I want to be the best I can be, while being the healthiest I can be. What about you?

Something that encouraged me very much last night: We had good friends over for dinner, & C., who is a remarkably beautiful woman both inside & out, noticed that I had lost weight & commented on how good I'm looking. Not just slimness but healthy skin, she said.

I hadn't thought about it, but she's right--since I started SP & have been paying more attention to nutrients, the skin on my face has been very clear.

C. said, "You are looking so much younger than D." (my husband).

She didn't know that I am SEVEN years OLDER than he is!

It's just really motivating when what we are doing here makes a visible difference & others notice.

Happy new year!

I decided a long time ago, that Spark was not helping me diet, but helping me change my lifestyle so that I can continue to be healthy. So the Weight Watchers item fits right in.

From Weight Watchers: Make the New Year’s Resolution to Not Go on a Diet. Our goal should be to eat healthy and be fit in order to keep the weight off! What do you think?

I want to encourage everyone to end 2007 on a positive note regardless of where you are in your weight loss journey, and to begin 2008 on that same positive note.

"Love God in front of others, and love others in front of God."

"The most self-destructive thought that any person can have is thinking that he or she is not in total control of his or her life. That's when, 'Why me?' becomes a theme song."
