Change of season means change of bird friends too. Have put away the oriole and hummingbird feeders now ready to enjoy those that stay year around.

My feeders have provided so much enjoyment. Have been watching bluebirds, indigo buntings, lots of orioles, finches, nuthatches, juncos, 3 kinds of woodpeckers, mourning doves, hummingbirds, pheobes, sparrows, red-wing blackbirds, and of course robins looking for worms.

Exciting day for me, there were male & female Grosbeaks and a female Oriole at my feeders this morning. I hurried out with grape jelly for Orioles and also cleaned & filled my hummingbird feeder just in case. I love to see these birds brighten the yard each spring. Maybe we will actually get some spring weather now!

This morning the robins were thrilled! The rain had brought hundreds of worms to the surface. Worms were on the driveway and all along the road as I drove. That should fatten up the robins...

Well, with the warmer weather melting the snow, I can see the top of the feeder now. If it were on a different side of the house (with more sun exposure), it might be more visible. I will not be home for the next few days (at least not until late), maybe then I can dig it out and thaw out or refill (whatever it needs) the poor thing. No wildlife lately...not even squirrels. The neighbor, across the road always puts peanuts out at the end of his driveway for the squirrels...there's just a sad pile of peanuts there,

The feeder is called "Squngee" and the squirrels are eyeing it suspiciously but no takers yet!

On a related note, I have the most beautiful black squirrel feeding in the back yard. I just love looking at him, he's so shiny! When I first saw him out of the corner of my eye, I thought I was looking at a small cat.

Where did you find your new feeder? It sounds like a really neat idea.
Must fill my feeders today so the birds can celebrate the new year too!

I'm so tickled, I just bought a squirrel feeder/bungee jumper. You attach corn cobs to the end of a bungee cord that you tie to a tree branch or hook. I'm scouting out the perfect place for it right now!!

It's a large area with tray-type feeders placed on old stumps. I also spread a lot of seed around on the ground. It didn't take the larger birds/squirrels/deer much time at all to figure out that it was easier to eat in the back yard than at the little feeders! (And the woodpeckers love to work over those stumps!)

Maybe I will have to try this idea, just wondering how they understand they are to leave the old feeders and use their own new one. Do you put out things like corn instead of birdseed in this area?

I set up a separate feeding station in the back yard. The squirrels and the deer were ruining my feeders and now that they have their own area, the problems have been reduced.

Our birds are getting "help" at the feeder. A big red squirrel has gotten into the feeder area and dumped lots of feed on the ground. The squirrel then joins the birds at cleaning it up. Think I will need to get a different feeder.

Friendly, hungry chickadees! As I was filling the feeder this morning a chickadee landed on the rim of my pail twice, then sat on a branch about 6 incles from my hand. By the time I got back in the house there were chickadees, juncos, mourning doves and finches eating, I think they appreciate the food!

One lone nuthatch and one solitary squirrel at the feeder today, must be too windy? I took a ride in the car now that the worst of the storm is over, I saw one lonesome seagull flying sideways! Better luck tomorrow, I guess!

Have 2 suet feeders. One is in the front yard near the pine trees for the birds to hide in & fly quickly to feeder. The second one is in the back yard nestled between a couple of birch trees that also provide some protection.

This morning, I put up two new feeders (actually the feeders are old, the location is new) very close to my house and right outside my kitchen window. It only took about 20 minutes for the Chickadee mob to discover them! It was rainy, cool and damp when I was outside getting the feeders ready but now that I'm inside and warm, I'm glad I took the time to do this. I'm enjoying this very much (and I'll bet my kitchen gets cleaned a lot more often now!)
