I must be in the minority then because I like kale. I do the traditional Mean Green juicing of 6 large leaves Kale, 4 celery, 2 cucumbers, 2 apples, juice of 1/2 a lemon and 2 pcs ginger. I switched from green apples to half green apple and half red apple. Makes it sweeter. Hubby liked it sweeter.
Dd loves to pick kale right out of the garden. I also use kale like I would lettuce wraps and I put it in my salads. I will say fresh kale, smaller leaves are less bitter and taste better. if you can grow your own even in a pot, it will taste much better. And it keeps growing back when you pick it.

My daughter and I are new to juicing, and the first day we used a recipe that called for something like 6-8 leaves of kale, along with apple, lemon, ginger, and cucumber. It was awful. I think it was because we used the stems of the kale, and too much ginger. We could smell the Kale and it smelled like grass to us. Once we cut back on the kale and substituted with more spinach, we were in business--much tastier! I'm glad to hear we were not the only ones who got scared off from taste--I am still juicing with kale, but my daughter decided to use only spinach. ~Cathy
So MELITHEBRAVE I wanted to get back to you on the Kale juicing. So I did figure out to put the Kale in first so the rest of the ingredients will pull the juice out of the juicer. I have a cheap juicer, all I can afford right now. Ok I did Kale, Celery, Cucumber, Green Apple and Lemon. So it was just ok....I could taste the Kale its kinda earthy...if that makes sense. I gave a glass to my hubby and he gagged..lol. He said that's awful, how can u drink it. I dont know how,but I am. Keep telling myself how good it is for me. I Having been having it the last couple mornings. Hopefully one morning it will just taste wonderful!

Thanks for the impressions, everyone. I'll blame it on the ginger, then, and give the kale another shot with someone a little sweeter, like green apple. I've juiced with spinach before and had no problems, so it helps to know kale should be like spinach- relatively tasteless- unless the kale's off.
The spicy might have been from that much ginger, I've been working up but still don't put that much in by personal preference. Kale doesn't carry that much flavor, parsely some but usually a fresh flavor. Green apples are a recommended balancer, cucumbers are nice for that, too.

Personally, I don't like the flavor of celery in my juice. I'm still experimenting with recipes to figure out what I like. I just got the book "Juicing Bible" from the library and the recipes look better than the ones that came with my juicer.
I haven't had much success with juicing greens because I don't have the right type of juicer for it. But I've blended greens with berries and a banana and it tastes good. I use water as my liquid, but my husband likes it better with apple juice to sweeten it up.

I bought Kale at the beginning of the week to juice. I look at it and its just so ugly I figure it's got to taste bad...lol. I have a recipe that calls for Kale, Celery and Pear. I'm going to try it tomorrow, I'll let ya know how it tastes. I am new to juicing greens..a matter of fact I've only done one green juice. I don't like veggies so that's been holding me back.

I tried a new juicing recipe today- three kale leaves, a celery stalk, a handful of parsley, an inch of ginger, and a half lemon. Since I had a kiwi sitting around, I threw that in, too.
The juice had a really spicy taste, very strong, like off salsa. It was also fuzzy like a peach. I got halfway through and then lost. I was wondering if this is the kale or the fact that my parsley was a little old?
Just checking, as this is my first juicing experience with a green besides spinach, and I wanted to be sure that it wasn't the kale. At this point, I want to trash the upcoming recipes using turnip greens, mustard greens, and so on if the juice will taste like this. Blaugh!
