Earth Hour is gaining a lot of momentum as tonight approaches. It is one of the top three stories online for the Denver Post, Google News has a lot of outlets reporting the story. It is nice to see.
Here are some healthy things you can do to add to Earth Hour if you want to participate I got from fitsugar.com
* Practice yoga by candlelight. The soft glow of candles can make your yoga practice quite soothing and surprisingly focused. * Take a nighttime stroll with friends. Go out on the town and gab while walking around, counting all the other dark homes to see who else is participating. * Unplug everything and chill out. Turn off your TV and your computer. Switch off your cell phone too. Take some time to just hang out with friends, family, loved ones, or to simply chill out alone. * Soak. Use this hour to take a relaxing bath and just listen to some tunes as you soak away stress. * Free rub down. Take turns swapping massage with your partner. A relaxing massage has many health benefits.
Puffinkitty, perhaps if you can figure out some sort of dark activity for your family to join in they may be up for this.
If you have space how about a marshmallow roast with a fire? Look for earth hour "family events' in your area. Where I live our Climate Smart team has been amassing a directory for this stuff.
Or if you don't have space and have the inclination... how about a family sit around with ghost stories or some other camping type activity with low light. Even drinking cocoa and listening to someone play an instrument.
Good luck finding something that everyone will participate with. I know this is a challenge that a number of people share.
Phew, there are only a few days left in the month but we still have time to squeeze in a challenge.
I propose you join in Earth Hour this Saturday at 8:30 PM your local hour. It was an action started two years ago through the World Wildlife Fund as a response to global climate change by having folks turn off their lights for an hour. Turn off your lights, turn off your t.v., light some candles or go to an earth hour gathering.
