I got the book The Spark and started reading it. Great book so far. So much more in there than just fitness. There's also a bunch about how to set goals and improve your life in general.
Anyway, one thing that stuck in my head: to really go after a big goal, you have to have a reason WHY. So what is everyone's reason for wanting to get fit. I forget if I mention this before, but I'll go first.
I'm 31 years old and just about 50 pounds over the weight I think I should be at (going on BMI and last time I felt healthy and energetic). Last time I can remember waking up rested was high school, or maybe college. So figure at least 10 years ago since I felt like I really had energy.
I went to the doctors to see if there was something seriously wrong with me but they always gave me the same advice: eat right, exercise, get enough sleep, lose that extra weight and you'll feel a lot better. I thought there had to be something wrong with me. Something more going on.
Turns out there was. I have a case of sleep apnea bad enough I need a CPAP machine (one of those with the mask that goes over your face and helps you breath a night). The sleep doctor says there is no cure. There's surgery that has a 50% chance of fixing it, but it may not be permanent and could screw up your vocal cords! Yikes!
The only other fix, and this one is a lot more effective - you know what's coming don't you... Get down to a healthy weight, preferably with eating right, cutting back on caffeine, and exercise. Depending on who you ask, I think if you have sleep apnea and get to a healthy weight, there's a 60 - 80% or maybe even better chance that it will just go away.
So I'm sick of having this thing over my face when I sleep and I just want to have energy again. To work, to live, and spend time with my wife and 8 month old little girl.
Sorry for the rambling, but this has got me fired up!
