Hello - It took me a while; but I did download Helix yesterday. My 11-year old grandson was here & it seemed like something fun & active that we'd both enjoy. And we did! Well worth the $10. The only downside is that he saw how I bought it & then "pressured" me into buying a SPOG racing game (also $10) that I'll never play again. LOL He really liked both though so I'm sure I'll be racing next time he's here too. The Helix I'll continue to do alone.

Thanks again for the info.

@ Vain:
Each remote is sensed separately (no connector or anything between the two), and both hands must be in the correct places to "succeed" at the move. (ie. one hand in the resting position at your side, and the other punching out in front of you). I hope that helps! emoticon

ooooh this sounds interesting, and 1000 wii points? that's about 10 bucks, so it might be worth the splurge! Thanks for the review.

I definitely want to try it. When using two remotes instead of a nunchuk it just recognizes the second remote? Because when you use a nunchuk you have to plug it into the remote. I guess I'm just confused as to how this works.

So glad you posted this. It's not a game I would have checked out; but based on your review, I think I'm going to have to get it. Can't beat the price either!

looks fun. As for two Wiimotes, you could have a second one for both this one and Samba Del Amigo (sp?), although it's optional on the other game (can use a nunchuck, I think, on it). It probably is required in this one because the Wiimote has better motion sensing than the nunchuck.

Thanks. Sounds like something I could try but only have one remote. I'm the only one who plays the Wii so I really don't need 2. emoticon

No, it has to be a Wii remote. I think the site said something about possibly being able to do just one remote by only doing one arm, but if that's the case, I think it takes a lot away from the game.

Ok, I finally got a few minutes to type this out :)

Helix
Rating: E
Cost: 1000 WiiPoints ($10)
Type of game: Nintendo calls it Action, I call it fitness :)
Would Recommend for: whole family

The best way I can think to describe Helix is like Dance Dance Revolution, but with your upper body instead of lower body. You hold one Wii remote in each hand (so you need 2), and as music plays your goal is to match the "dance moves" of the robot on the screen. (These moves remind me a little more of aerobics moves than dance moves, but they are still fun and timed to the music). The music that plays is from independent musicians (ie. probably not songs you're familiar with) and definitely has a bit of a techno slant to it (although I would not consider myself a techno fan, I enjoyed most of it.) There are 26 songs available, most of them "unlocked" by completing a certain number of songs. I have about half the songs unlocked so far, and it takes 40 minutes to get through those, so there's plenty of playtime on this even if you just do each song once per workout. There are 3 difficulty levels, Easy, Medium, and Hard (the only differences between levels being the speed and amount of movements; the same basic movements are used in each level, making it easier to learn.) I find the Easy level to be a decent workout, and when I play the Medium level, it is definitely a good cardio workout for me (I also kind of bounce from side to side to add a little more movement and exercise). I imagine you could even incorporate wrist weights if you wanted a harder workout. The other thing I really like about this game is it has that "just one more time" factor, especially when unlocking songs, that makes me keep playing even when I tell myself I'll just play for 10 minutes.

It can take a little while to adjust to watching the robot do a move and having to wait a couple seconds before you do it, but once you adjust, it's not as hard as it seems.

I would like to see more of a song variety, (ie. songs I've heard of and can sing along to), but considering that would probably make it more expensive, it's really not that big of a deal to me. (The developers have said on their forum that Helix 2 will have a little different music, more like that on Dance Dance Revolution, but as far as I know, there's no release date set for it yet.)

All in all, I'm really glad I found this game, because I was kind of bummed I don't really have room to use the WiiFit in the room I have the Wii in. Let me know if you have any questions about Helix; I'd be happy to answer them!
