I agree with Cookie-- MyFitnessCoach is one of the best exercise programs we've enjoyed so far. Is good for both beginners and those who are more fit (I beling the former and my husband being the later... lol) I have difficulties with asthma, so I can't do the kind/amount of aerobics that he can, and he's not as flexible as I am, so there's some of those moves that give him trouble. This program is self-adjusting, which I love. You can set how many minutes you want to work out and the type of workout you want. You set your own workout schedule according to how busy your upcoming week is, and you are rewarded with trophies, different music styles, etc. for sticking to that program that you designed. Every 10 workouts or so, you do a physical challenge where you measure different parts of your body to help the program know how you're doing. This program also allows you to use other pieces of fitness equipment that you may have at home. For example, we have a stability ball and a few hand weights. The program incorporates exercises that use these. I heard there is a new version of the game "My Fitness Coach 2" that is supposed to be released this year, which incorporates healthy eating tracking and recipe ideas, directions, and guidance. Definitely a good program. We also have EA Active, and use it, but don't like it nearly as much.

I have various DDR games for the Wii, but I don't like them as much as the ones on PS2 and XBox. We Cheer, however (as many people have stated, is a lot of good fun and a great way to get your heart rate up. The second game is a lot nicer than the first game (the judging isn't as sensitive and there's three difficulties, not just two).

If you have a Wii that can play import games, Happy Dance Collection is like We CHeer 'light'. You only use one hand and it's not as intensive as We Cheer and especially not as much as DDR. Good for a slow day or as a cool down from a harder workout. =)

Here's my library & thoughts:

#1 Wii active more workouts (more workouts is much better that first active ($36 at BJs) - strength & cardio - they have a real step aerobics in the custom workout that is quite challenging for cardio (took me three tries to do 10 minutes straight) & the 6 week challenge keeps you moving with different workouts everyday.

#2 Just Dance ($30?)- actually really fun it's my favorite cardio game right now but it does have lots of 80s music (this is good addition if you have something else for training)

#3 - Dance Dance Rev (DDR) ($$$) - was really into this at first but all the foot stomps hurts my knees (will try again soon).

#4 (least favorite) wii fit & fit plus - balance games/yoga/strength - aerobic step is decent cardio & addicting but there is only one game - also has good basic yoga even if you didn't think you would like yoga (me). I don't really play the balance games any more.

Try Game Stop or your local used game dealer for all those games you are looking for that cant find.. Game Stop has new and used games.. The used games are those games that people like me buy and then decide they dont really like or gamers who have finished a game completely.. Or go to blockbuster or most vid stores they sell used games as well.. that way if you dont like it you didnt spend a ton of money on a game that you hate.. but my best advice is rent it or get it from you local library first... you dont like it bring it back...

i did that with golds gym cardio.. i really wanted this game sooo bad.. got it from the library and used it once.. really didnt like it.. brought it back and spent zero dollars

I second the Just Dance game. My husband decided that it wasn't a game but a workout because it got our heartrates up so quickly. I still think it's tons of fun, so I consider it a game.

I really like ' Gold's Cardio Workout'

- If you enjoy the rhythim boxing in wii Fit, you'll love this program. It has me sweating much more than either the AE Sports Active or Wii Fit+ do, as oftentimes I'll have beads of sweat dripping from my chin between routines. I have a towel handy when I use this program, and yet it is so much fun that it feels more like a game.

Here is a video review link for this game. The reviewer does a great job, and shows the game as he plays it.

I just purchased Wii Sports Resort with a gift card I had gotten for Christmas and my family, as well as myself, LOVE IT! We also have Wii Sports, also VERY good!! Probably, a fave at our house? Mario Kart! We've got it for the GameCube, we've got it for the DS, and we're going to get it for the Wii, eventually, - VERY fun!!!

i just got The Biggest Loser and I like it so much. I also heard the NEW Jillian Michaels game is much better than the last one.It has gotten great reviews.I learned after buying that game to check lot's of reviews before buying games and going on youtube where they have people showing you how they work. Anyone trying it?
The new YOUR SHAPE game looks pretty amazing. I think the camera idea is brilliant! That is on my Christmas list.

I love the biggest Loser game and the Cardio Workout. I have the we cheer but never used it. My daughter does and loves it. I also have the fitness coach and it gives you a workout but not really wii related.

Are there any games that use the balance board that give you a workout and are fun.

Pirates of the Caribbean - at world's end, is one of the few games we have that really gives me a high level cardio workout (I haven't gotten my fitness games yet! Still shopping.. and need ideas!)

Anyhoo, it's a narrative game, going through the movie with short periods where the characters act out different scenes, and then engage in long stretches of frantic sword fighting. This annoyed me at first but has a great exercise side effect - my heart would get pumping like CRAZY during the sword fighting (apx 5 -7 mins), then I would have a few minutes of recovery during the narrative parts, then another session of sword fighting. The peaks and recovery are a lot like a spin class! If you like fighting legions of skeleton pirates, this is a fun and actually very challenging workout!

I'm still scouting for fit games, and I'm concerned about intensity levels. Which of the games include cardio and strength with weights and really give a lot of options to vary the workout? I super love my wii, and I really want to incorporate it in my routine! I just feel so overwhelmed with all the options yikes!!! I know theres a combination out there for me somewhere..

Boom Blox is a fun party game. Up to 4 people can play at 1 time, or there are levels for you to unlock by yourself. There are all sorts of different types of games to play within it, all of them centered around knocking down blocks in a strategic way.

not quite sure if legos and spyro are on the same level as zelda, but they are fun, and close to the same level.

I got turned off on Spryo when I got a Gamecube game that had HUGE load times (while xbox and PS2/3 have load times, usually Gamecube doesn't--so I was very disappointed that it wasn't ported (changed the program from running on one system to be able to run on another system) to the Gamecube better. But I would hope that they're better at that now.

Elf - if you are looking for epic much like Zelda - Spyro is also fun (dragon with ice/fire/ bubble breath lol)There are a few Zeldas and I enjoyed it especially the puzzles. Spyro is a more can you find it and can you do it sort of game rather than puzzles. The Lego games are similar to Zelda in that it has puzzles to solve - they have Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Batman. They are hilarious as you are Lego characters that fall to pieces when you die LOL

DH & I played Wii Play for an hour tonight, thinking this was another set of games that work provide exercise, like Wii Sports. Not so! We sat in our chairs for the entire hour. This means that the only thing I can play now that will provide any exercise is Wii Sports. I wish I could find Wii Fit! I've been trying to wait for Amazon to get it, so I can get Active Life Outdoor Challenge at the same time.

I bleive you can get some of the older Zelda games using Wii Points. My DH, DS and I play together often - DS is good at navigating and remembering where to find things, I'm good at solving puzzles, and DH is good at fighting and killing things. Together we do pretty well:)

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games can give you quite the workout while having fun. You really have to work it with this game but it is more playful fun than a workout.

Samba De Amigo really works your arms. You shake the Wii controllers like maracas to songs like Macarana and Livin La Vida Loca. It's a good one to get on sale.

Jillian Michaels is a little disappointing in that you have to work hard to get your Mii to move on the screen. It needs to be more sensitive.

MarioKart is really fun. We love to get a couple of friends over and play it. Not a workout but is fun.

AMF Bowling Pinbusters is a more detailed version of the bowling on Wii Sports. The environments are cool and my score on Bowling Pinbusters is closer to what you would get in reality than on Wii Sports.

Big Brain Academy is fun because you get to go to "school" and test your brain. There are fun activites to help you get a "bigger brain". The professor can talk a little too much but other than that it is a fun game. This is more the traditional game where you sit and play.

Those are the only ones we have besides Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Hopefully I helped a little. You can also go to bestbuy.com or circuitcity.com and check out the game you are thinking about getting and get many helpful reviews to help you make your final decision.

@Elfdoctors: The only Wii game I can think of in that genre is Zelda: The Twilight Princess. I also read about one called Dokopon Kingdom, which sounds a bit like D&D mixed with a board game. Also, if you're not restricted to just Wii, World of Warcraft on the PC is excellent.

@Mrsfixit: thanks for the recommendation on Step Mania..I'll have to look into it emoticon

ELFDOCTORS, I believe you might be interested in Zelda. It's an adventure game. I don't know of any others, although I would think there has to be some.

I play Step Mania, which is the PC version of DDR. I love it! The game is free, & I can download LOTS & LOTS of songs for free. I currently have over 200 songs! The only thing I had to buy was the pad & PS2 to USB converter. I actually bought a set of 2 pads with the converter Christmas 2007 for about $40. From what I've seen of the Wii DDR, I don't know the songs. I wish they used songs like Rock Band because those are the ones I grew up listening to. I think the DDR games lean towards a much younger audience.

I love My Fitness Coach... Got it as a Christmas gift and find it to be a great workout and it also hold you accountable since you have to set up the profile and enter weight, measurements. I think this Fitness Coach is 10 times better than Jillian Michaels since it seems to not respond well to the board.

The Outdoor Challenge is another excellent choice as well. I have had a blast with that and as others have said is for even the biggest kid at heart.

DDR is an awesome workout and a ton of fun too. I don't have it for the wii yet, but have several for the playstation, it's always a great pastime of sweating and laughing. (love exercise when it isn't exercise)

Best of luck to all finding the game that gets you moving, laughing, having fun and staying motivated.

Is anyone aware of a good game in the Lord of the Rings/Dungeons and Dragons genre?

While I would imagine that such a game will not be as good as the WiiFit for losing weight, I really enjoy this type of game and would like to make better usage of our new Wii system.

Sorry if I hijacked this thread. It seemed the previous thread had largely completed.

Hi guys I'm new to the board and to this board so hello. My daughter got a Wii for Christmas and I bought myself the Outdoor Life because I was looking for something that would get me moving and I couldn't find the Wii Fit. I LUV this game. It looks like adults wouldn't like it because it's kids playing but it's great. The day after Christmas I was so sore that I couldn't move. It's a great game and I highly recommend it.

Speaking of upper body workouts. We Cheer is great and a lot of fun. DDR is always my core game, I lost 50 pounds when I did it faithfully. (Unfortunately I fell off the wagon with everything once I quick smoking but now i'm back)

Active outdoor challenge another good one. I don't really like the fitness couch. I had it for the xbox when it was on that plateform and while it was well made it was still a body on screen telling me to do this move or that. In other words real (traditional) exercises and I find traditional exercises, be it a bimbo or a video game pixel telling me I can do it..boring :P

If this is for your Wii, Hottest party 2.. Avoid Hottest party (the first one.) at all costs. Fortunately Konami seemed to fix the issues that plagued the first one, including putting in my precious training mode. A must have for me!

Hi all! :) Just wanted to throw out a suggestion for a game to check out. It's called Helix, and it's downloadable as WiiWare (I think it was $10, if I remember right). Think of it as DDR but an upper body workout, rather than lower body. You hold a Wii remote in each hand, and match movements of a robot on the screen to the beat of a variety of techno-ish songs. There are 3 levels of difficulty; easy is easy enough for even kids or elderly people, while medium made me work up quite a sweat (still haven't attempted the hard version, lol..I have to psyche myself up for that ;)) When I have a little more time, I can right up a review, but in the meantime, here's a link to someone else's review. http://www.wiiware-world.com/reviews/2008/

I'm in about same position you are. I got Wii Sports (came with Wii), Wii Fit (came with Wii Fit). I also bought Wii Play as it came with a package with a 2nd Wii Remote (games aren't that good though).

My next game will probably be the Active Outdoor Life Challenge.

I keep hearing some of you talk about DDR. Can somebody explain what that is for those of us who don't know every Wii acronym?

Definitely try the AL: Outdoor Challenge. We just got it last night and after an hour of playing both my husband and I were sweating like crazy. There are a ton of great settings and the games are a lot of fun. Especially when going head to head.

It kind of took me aback because it looks like it's only for kids but it's definitely great for the big kids too!

If you get DDR HP2 you can play all aspects (or at least most) of the game with the "jumps" turned off. So you would only have to move one leg at a time. The jumps require both legs to move at the same time and that is what tends to get my knees.

In DDR HP1 you can only turn off the jumps in the workout mode.

Thanks for a very informative thread!! I have also been wondering what else is out there. I'm not surprised by the Jillian Michaels comment you made -- at work I overheard bad things. I have also heard rave reviews about DDR. So I guess that will be my next venture!

By the way, as person with bad knees -- how much impact is there in DDR? I avoid anything more than low impact.

I have the Active Life Outdoor Challenge. It was $59.99 CDN, and worth every penny. A great... and FUN workout.

A bit of a warning, though... if you live in an apartment and have people living below you, don't get this game. Most of the games involve running and jumping, and would have your downstairs neighbours very upset in no time.

I am like you. I "just" got the Wii and Wii Fit a few days ago. I love both, but am wondering what other great games are out there, especially "get you moving" type games.

I did a little googling and came across (already mentioned):

It has pretty good reviews on Amazon.

Someone else mentioned the Active Life game a couple of weeks ago and I forgot all about it. How much is it and do you think it was worth the cost???

Ugh, I wish I knew as well. Someone else just posted about a new My Fitness Coach game. The link is below. Pretty inexpensive...
