MERIALL, How tall are you and what is your "healthy" range (low and high numbers in lbs.) on the BMI scale? I think that part of what you have done is gain muscle, since you are saying that you are smaller than last year, so perhaps you won't get as low as you though you would since you now have muscle.

And, unless you are REALLY short, I don't think that you're at an unhealthy weight. If you are eating healthy and exercising and full of energy, I think there is a chance you're fine where you're at.

As for weighing at 141 right after having a baby, I think it took me to the six week checkup for my weight to go fully back down--there's still some healing to be done for a little while afterward.

Edit: I'm going through my email/forum posts stuff right now...I just looked at the Weigh-in info...and you said that you have a BMI of 23.3---that's healthy!!! You're within your perfect range! You shouldn't worry about losing weight---at least not much. The healthy range for BMI is 18.5-24.9 (that's the BMI score, not pounds). You're well in range, so your body is healthy, and probably happy where it's at. So, don't worry about anything else than being healthy and fit--which you are.

It gives you BMI (Body Mass Index) which is the same as body fat percentage; but like I said, it only goes by your weight and is general to everyone. It has no way to check your bone mass within the weight.

Does the Wii fit calculate body fat?

I don't know how accurate the Body Fat % is on the Wii Fit. Grant it, it is probably close; but some people really do have bigger bones than others and I think Wii Fit's percentages are pretty general and can't take that into account.

I checked my measurements this morning. They have not changed. Mostly I have been paying attention to that Body Fat Percentage rather than weight because I KNOW I am smaller than I was last summer. I just bought a new bathing suit to testify to that. It was mostly that BF% being so high this morning that was so discouraging. So today I worked out on the Wii Fit for an hour instead of 45 minutes doing 10 minutes of free step and the long jogging with my kids.

SDSCHWEITZER, until you get your tape measure you could try on something that is tight and see if you feel a difference. Also, ask yourself if you feel different. Is there an exercise that you struggled with before that is easier now?

MERIALL, have you checked measurements? The scale really only gives such a small, narrow picture of what is actually happening with us. Is there another way you can judge whether you are getting healthier?

If you're exercising and eating in a healthy manner, maybe your body does better at the slightly higher weight. Have someone take a picture of you. In the picture, do you LOOK like you weight 136 or do you look like you weight closer to 120? Sometimes we need to look at the number on the scale as just that - a number on a scale.

I don't have to be rail thin to be happy being me. Here is the link to one of my blog entries. This one is about choosing my goal weight and that I've finally realized that I don't have to worry about a number on the scale or live up to the expectations of society or others when it comes to MY weight: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=1236628

You may just need to reevaluate your goals a bit. It may be that you aren't tracking every single bite you eat (I'm guilty of this at times) or are overestimating the calories you're burning (I think I'm doing this right now for some reason - I don't know how I'm supposed to feel or how much I should be sweating when I burn 500 calories or whatever from low-impact aerobics, so I can't judge if the 30 minutes of workout is really burning the number of calories the fitness tracker says I am).

As long as you're striving toward your goal, exercising, and making healthier decisions on a consistent basis, congratulate yourself. You've come a long way. You're doing great! Keep up the good work. The scale may just be behind and your body may just need time to adjust to the changes you're making. Hang in there! You CAN do this!

Just another gripe.

I have been with Spark since February. At that time I weighed 127. I have followed the diet, I have bumped up my exercise, I am more active than I have ever been. And yet, my weight creeps up and up and up. I got on the scale today at 136 which was just shocking! (I think I may have gotten on too early in the day - too soon after getting up but still!)
I do not know what else I could be doing to loose weight. I keep my calories down and balanced. I exercise every day for at least 45 minutes. I just do not have time to exercise 3 hours a day!

Just feeling very discouraged and like there is no point. My daughter is almost 4. My weight coming home from the hospital with her was 141. I cannot even call it baby weight anymore. When I started with Spark I needed to look about 10 lbs. Now its almost 20.

The time has come, The Walrus said, to talk of other things: Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings.

I couldn't find my tape measure. I meant to go buy a new one. I went out to the store and completely forgot until I got home. So it's on my list of things to do in the morning.

Thank you for encouaging me!

How are your measurements? any changes there or changes in how your clothes fit? Have you recently added strength training and/or upped your strength workout? Sometimes your body (when first starting strength) retains some water to help the muscles work better. Also, building up muscle will keep your weight from dropping, even though your losing fat.

SDSCHWEITZER... I hear your frustration! I am right with you there. It has been 17days of faithful workout (which I thoroughly enjoy), as well as walking and working out on my gazelle. I have also been following a very healthy diet but the scale isn't really moving. I have lost (altogether) a few inches from my thighs, waist and arms but still not much weight. But I think we need to have faith that it will pay off. I keep telling myself that the weight didn't just magically appear one day (even though I feel like one day I woke up fat), so it won't just magically disappear.

I am very thankful that even when I feel down, sad, depressed and/or alone I have a family (both here & at home) full of support to lift my chin up through those rough times.

So keep your chin up and have faith that you will succeed at your goals. GOOD LUCK to you!!!

I have been faithfully working with my physical trainer 3x a week, doing an hour of cardio 5 days a week and (for the last week) playing with my wii fit for at least 30 minutes a day 6 days a week. Yet the scale doesn't move.

Just expressing frustration here.

Nah, I don't worry about logging my activity in there, either, as I already do it here. I had a strong routine long before Wii Fit came to market, so I am just fine with that... but I do feel guilty for not using something we spent so much money on... LOL!

Our apartment is just too cluttered... this time next year, we should be in a house, and we're going to make sure it's all set up in a place that can STAY set up, requiring no temporary redecorating to use. LOL!

D8PALM: That is really awful! Maybe you can do some of the wii sports or wii play activities to keep your momentum and moving while waiting for the repairs. I hoping it gets fixed very soon for you!!!

SUEBEE42: Good for you keeping your activity level up. Whatever works for you. If you have wii fit, you can log your other activities in there too.

Even if they can't fix it over the phone, they can probably replace it for you so that you don't have to worry about finding another one. That will take some time to do the switch, but it can be done.

What kind of a team would we be if we didn't vent once in a while? emoticon

You don't have to be active on the Wii to be active on this team. We're just glad you're part of the team. We're always here for you. I'm glad you have another exercise routine, too. That will really help you reach your goals.

D8PALM, oh no. I hope they can fix it over the phone. I'll cross my fingers for you.

SUEBEE42, I'm glad you have a separate exercise routine you are still doing. Be as active or inactive with the team as you need. We'll be here when you want to post more. This week's challenge can be done without the Wii and we have another "challenge" coming up that is without the Wii as well. So even if you can't play with your Wii for whatever reason we try to have something if your interested.

I've just been way to busy the last few weeks to even think about Wii. Luckily, I do already have a regular exercise routine, so I'm not slacking... I just don't have time to move the furniture and "play games." ;)

So, that's why I haven't been terribly active on the team lately. LOL!

Not really a call for support, more of a vent. LOL!

UGH! My Wii balance board quit working this morning! It's kind of depressing because I have got quite a momentum going, I have been working out daily on it for close to 60 days now! I have tried new batteries, re-syncing, etc. Now I'm on hold with Nintendo while they try to troubleshoot the problem. Fingers crossed they are able to help me fix it over the phone because I think it will be next to impossible to find a new Wii Fit system at the store any time soon!

Hooray, another weekend day down and I'm still on track! Yesterday I got up early, had a healthy breakfast, then went to the farmer's market and got a lot of healthy food. There were also treats galore but I resisted them all.

Then at the wedding shower, I just had a small serving of pasta salad and a lot of cantelope. Didn't have the main course, roll or the eclairs! I'm so proud.

Thanks for all the support. I have some momentum going now and I don't want to give up now. I think I'm going to have sucessful weekend!!

A drive-in should help, since you could take your own healthy treats. (maybe an idea for next time?)

Thanks to planning ahead and thinking about how I'll deal with weekend challenges, so far this weekend is successful and much better than usual. Last night instead of dinner and a movie, I asked hubby if we could skip going out and eat dinner home. So I had my healthy dinner we went to a movie, he had treats, but I didn't and I stayed in my calorie range ON A FRIDAY!!

Now on to the next challenge. A wedding shower. I'll report how I do. This is kind of fun!

Thanks for all the support here.

Sound like a good plan!! You can do this...even if all your doing on SP is logging your food and exercise, that will probably help a lot. Just get in some exercise, and make sure to watch portions and snacks. You can do this...it'll be a piece of fruit!! (lol)

I always fall down with eating healthy and exercising on the weekend, and then it takes me a couple of days into the week to get going again. So I don't make any progress.

This weekend I'm gearing up mentally to try to meet my goals. I'm worth doing this for! I'm going to be fit and healthy!!! I'M DETERMINED TO LOSE WEIGHT!!!

My strategy: this weekend I'm going to be active on spark, get up every morning and do my wii and take a shower and get dressed and STAY ACTIVE all weekend.

My religion is simple. My religion is kindness.

Yay, I'm glad you're okay, at least on the inside. I hope the flare up is short and you're back to your regular self soon.

Thanks Marianne and Rick. I was trying to think of something that went with the slow, small life-changes I am making. Feel free to steal and use it all you like. And yes that song is now in my head.

Morning everyone, and thank you so much for the encouragement. I went to see one of my Dr.'s yesterday and turns out I am having a flare. So yes my lupus has come out of remission for a visit. Hopefully it will be a short one.
So now I know what the problem is and I can deal with it and move on. Thanks again for the wonderful words.
To paraphrase a few words from a musical...

BTW, I like Lollifers quote as well, I'm going to steal it and use it.

Hi Rick...

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time...

It's ok to do what you can...some days will be harder than others..and sometimes it's ok to take a day off...

I admire your spirit...I want to be just like that...

Keep trying...but not too hard...k?

Marianne

P.S. I went to Lollifers sparks page..and loved what it said...

" I'm not slow,
I'm deliberate,
It just looks like slow"

To all that have supported and shared with me...I'm sending out a BIG THANK YOU to you all...you know who you are!

Wish you all health happiness and fun in your lives...XO

Rick,

I can't imagine what you are going through. But reading your SparkPage I can see that you are a man of great personal strength. With all that you've been through and overcome you are inspiring to me and a reminder that sometimes people are amazing. I hope that you can use some of that inner strength to help you through this week. And know that we are here cheering you on.

Hi, Rick,

Don't they say "slow and steady wins the race" (like the turtle). Did you overdo it? Or is it the Lupus that just makes *everything* harder. I like the way you keep going. I know you will find the right balance for yourself.

Rick...you are phenomenal! I saw your page before and was amazed at what you have done. You truly are an inspiration. Always strive to do your best, but don't push yourself too hard. You can do it, just look at all you have already accomplished in your life.

Rick, Hang in there and do what you can. Try not to get discouraged when you can't do as much as you would like(I know that's easier said than done). Things happen and are just a part of our daily lives. There will be days we can't, or don't, do as much as we could, or did, on another day. That's all okay and part of the process.

Accept that it's okay, it's inevitable, and there really isn't much you can do about it. Keep going and continue doing what you CAN do on the days you're able. It's okay! It will take time. You CAN do this.

I need encouragement and support today because:

Today/this week I have been stiff and sore. I have lupus and am currently active and makes doing even simple things difficult.

This Thread is a place where you can let your team members know when you're struggling so we can help support, motivate, and encourage you.

If you're struggling because you've maintained, gained, or can't seem to get on the Wii for any reason, let us know. If you're having a hard time with one of the Wii games or can't seem to better your score, post your concerns here so we can help each other get over those humps.

Everyone needs encouragement or a little nudge every once in a while. If you feel you need a nudge in the right direction, please post it here so your team can help you. That's why you're here and that's why we're here.

Posting here will let your team members know when they need to encourage you with a SparkGoodie, a SparkMail, or just a response to your message here letting you know you aren't in this alone.

In other words, PLEASE encourage each other and feel free to post that encouragement here.
