When dealing with stress, just tell yourself you'll do 10 minutes. Start with that. I'll bet you get in over 30 minutes of exercise. Same with the eating. Instead of eating, pull out a Wii game and say you'll do 10 minutes. I always find I can't eat as much after exercising. emoticon

Last night I binged eat and I have been stuck at my current weight almost forever. I keep going back and forth and getting off track. Today I wrote my weight on my arm so that I remember I'm unhappy where I'm at the next time I want to overeat. I am so disappointed in myself. I desperately want to be out of the 300's.

I found out this week my DH has been declared mentally incompetent due to the multiple strokes. Facing what I knew to be a reality is not easy. I shut down completely yesterday... I didn't do a Body Test for the first time since 1/1/12. I didn't do any SPARKing. I know it is ok to break a streak and I just start over today. I DID do 15 minutes of WiiFit+ AdStep this morning. I've tracked my nutrition for the day. My head and heart have wrapped around the idea that life is now officially changed forever, but the body says it has had enough stress and is trying to shut down. Have call into doctor. I will go through this, AND I am grateful for my SP teams and for my Wii! The Wii makes it easy to exercise and not have to THINK about it... just do it!

The best thing I've done is to come back to Sparkpeople. I tried other websites, but after a while, the one made me very obsessive/compulsive, because if you didn't log in, and had a lot of days, it would start from day 1 again. Don't need that kind of pressure. I need motivation to dust off the Kinect and Wii and start exercising again. I was doing great, then fell off the wagon. :( Any comments or motivation would be appreciated.

I don't feel like keeping up my challenge exercise. I will encourage myself it isn't too hot outside so I should be able to get in my 40 minutes of exercise after breakfast and then to organize papers in my den.

I haven't been horrible, but I have been far from great on my nutrition. I've been letting stress get the best of me. Between the kids' surgeries, death in family, work, home, finances, and general living - I've been extremely stressed this week......I'm letting myself slide on my personal goals and making excuses as to why I can't exercise or eat right or whatever instead of remembering the reasons why I'm doing this in the first place.....

I know U have probably heard this already (but it is important enough to repeat). The scale should not be used every day and it should just be one source of success. If not you will mentally go up and down over a peice of meral. Anyone that has the Wii will also tell you that you can get on in the morning and lose and by night gained 6 lbs (according to it). I look at how my clothes fit (especially my bra and panties). I also measure with a tape measurer. I look good at a size 14W or 16W but my goal is an 18W. I am currently wearing a 24W but I started out at a size 26W. The fact that I can exercise longer now is great. The weight reading on a scale can fluctuate because the floor isn't level, maybe you are not staning in the same spot as you were earlier. I mean these are rhetorical questions, but there are just to many variables for this to be the only means of you gauging weightloss success.

Genetics may load the gun but environment pulls the trigger.

Yesterday sucked! I ate anything I wanted... I didn't work out, and I felt terribly guilty about both. But I have decided that today is a new day, and so far I have worked out and tracked what I'm eating, I'm just so mad at myself for flushing a good spark streak down the drain.

to the people who are bummed that they've hit a "plateau" in their weight-loss:
don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat! even if you're doing cardio, the wii fit's exercises are primarily strength-training exercises designed for building and toning muscles. can you feel yourself getting stronger? i find that doing lunges aren't as difficult for me as they once were and doing pushups no longer hurt my wrists, so i can only conclude that i'm getting stronger. so even if you're not actively losing weight, you're still making progress.

also, and women don't take this into account enough (and the wii doesn't offer it as a reason for weight gain), i tend to pack on a couple of extra pounds during my monthly cycle. it'll drop right back off in another week, but it never fails to make me feel like paunchy and bloated.

Arthritis is painful I know particularly at this time of year. I have mobility problems too, but my daughter brought Wii rock band for Christmas and when I can't do anything else I can play the drums,it's fun and keeps the brain active as well as giving a gentle cardio/upper body exercise, Hope you feel better soon.

By the way, I'm new...again. I started in March of 2010 but I didn't really do anything.

I need encouragement today because I haven't been able to get on my Wii for a week because of the arthritis in my hips and the snow/cold we've been having here in TN.

Today, I will walk into a Weight Watcher clinic and sign up for 3 months. I also hope to get back on my Wii before the end of the day. I have missed Walk It Out so much!

I CAN do this! I WANT to do this!

I am trying to think I know that there are some exercises on Biggest Loser Challenge for the stomach area. Look for core exercises they will work that area also I am thinking there might be some on Wii Fit Plus also but right now I am drawing a blank on what they are lol

I agree that Walk it Out is a great game and its a good way of starting an exercise program.

Good luck and hope you find the answers you are looking for!!

I love Walk it Out. It is a great way to get started. I actually do it at the same time I do Leslie Sansone and she has a great way to burn the weight around the middle. As you are walking, just do knee lifts and light forward kicks. As you do them, touch your leg or knee with the opposite hand. That kicks in your abs. I always use the 10 minute saying. Just tell yourself you are going to do 10 minutes and you will always end up doing more.

Hello, try the Wii game Walk it Out. I've never seen it in stores such as Target or Best Buy but you can order it from Amazon. It's not hard on your body and it's fun and I lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks with it and watching my calories. I have Wii active, fit, etc. and I have never enjoyed them for any length of time. Walk it out was something i enjoy and returned to nearly every day. It's simple, you just walk around the island and try to build it up by clicking on the coins as you walk. For example to earn a car for your island is 200 steps. A flower shop is 400 steps. A bridge is 1000 steps. I just walk around my coffee table in my living room. It has music that you have to unlock with steps but I use my mp3 player and walk around to the music on it or listen to an audio book. It takes me a little less than an hour to get 10,000 steps in which in Wii is slightly over 3 miles but with my current weight I burn slightly over 400 calories doing it. No high impact hurting knees or back. I do LIGHT resistance, floor or strength training twice a week. Toni Little exercise videos or spark people are great for this. As someone on this site once said just tell yourself you're only going to do 10 minutes of exercise and once you get started, you will find that you will do more. That hardest part is getting started. Have fun.

Maybe I am out of luck but maybe someone as a good suggest. I need to lose weight in my middle. I been told by the doctor I am carrying too much weight in my stomach. I have wii what I use for most of my exercises, Does anyone as any suggest for what wii games I can do to cut the weight in the stomach? I think biggest loser and e active would be too hard for me. If you can not help great if not thanks for your time.

To reply to the last poster - the Wii Fit Challenge has weekly challenges that are a lot of fun.

I need support because my purse was stolen yesterday at Walmart. Now I have the hassle of replacing driver's license, debit card, etc. One of the worst parts is my glasses were in there and my insurance won't pay for another pair for a year!

I'm also on a plateau, that's why I got the Wii hoping it will help with this one.

But I broke out of my last one by switching up my workout. For me, it was bringing in a dance workout dvd...spent a lot of time laughing while working out.

you can also read some articles about jumpstarting your metabolism...sometimes it good to have a planned 'high' calorie day..sounds odd, but its like your metabolism gets reset when you do the same low calories all the time.

I have hit a plateau! I lost 3 lbs a week for four weeks and then 2 lbs last week. This week, I didn't lose anything at all. I exercised 5 days last week including cardio and strength training and I was within all of my nutrition goals (actually on the lower end of the calories). I typically do the same cardio everyday and I am thinking maybe I need to change it up a bit. Any ideas anyone?

You know I am right there with you 3Chi. My husband just recently deployed and I started working out again. I didn't even dare get back on a scale, but last Friday I weighed myself on my Wii. It isn't as bad as I thought, but it is still gain. So, I move on and go forward from here. You will too because you made the most amazing and hardest step in this process...admitting that you fell down. Now, it's time to get back up

Right 3Chi!! I know this post is old, but just wanted to give a little motivation. Publicaly admitting that you've fallen off the wagon is a great first step. I know I often don't want to even admit things to myself. It's why I force myself to at least do the Basic Test on my Wii, every single day without fail. That keeps me accountable and it keeps me aware if those numbers are sneaking back up. If it's gone up a hair, I try not to let it get to me. I look at the graph so that I can see that it's two steps forward and one step back. That's OK. I just try to make sure I'm not letting it change to one step forward and two back!

You CAN do this!

Man, I've been feeling soooo horrible about myself, actually even avoiding the keyboard because I have "epic fail"ed...AGAIN. Too many contributing factors to name and worse than that, they are re-occuring contributing factors. I haven't even been able to drink 8 stinkin glasses of water.

Then i thought, I'll just spin the wheel. I can do that. Then I thought yeah lets make the shame complete and fill in the food for today. Not that horrible (course I haven't plugged in that half a cinnamon roll I just split with my daughter) and the sweet tea I'm fixing to pour out.

Then I thought I'll feel better if I rack up some spark points, look around a bit. Then I remembered a blurb for Gold Gym's cardio game and thought I'd head over see if there was any chatter about it, and here was this message thread. All I can say is Thank You.

I'm not alone, I don't suck that bad and you guys Rock. Each And Every One of YOU!!!

ugh... so the last year and half has been a wild ride. I had to put sparkpeople aside as I got pregnant with our second daughter. All fine and dandy. She's a happy healthy 4.mo old..

I got on the scale this morning - EPIC FAIL! I don't think I've ever seen those three numbers, in that order, while NOT pregnant! A major downer, but I think that was the kick in the hiney I needed.

I've been good to not raid the chocolate my coworker brought in. I walked a mile at lunch and washed out my water bottle (no more tea/soda).

But... its taking some, no- TONS of restraint to not raid the snacks that aren't exactly the most healthy... *sigh* I can do this. I can do this. Baby steps...

Short/Midterm Goals:

Lose 5lbs each month to reach Goal in late Feb/early March 2009.

July: -5lbs!! *I reported my weight here, went home to double check and realized I was 3lbs off (not in my favor)*

I overdid it for the last two weeks and now I'm tired and kind of unmotivated. I still did my scheduled Biggest Loser workout, my heart wasn't in it. I've got to do more, but I have to be careful.

MOM210 - You're going to be fine! When you're going strong, and you feel ill a lot of the time, it's normal to be anxious when we are tired, but it's okay and good to take a break. In your frame of health, your illness can last longer if you don't take care of yourself, especially if you have a fever. I am a kidney-transplant recipient, and I sometimes feel so good that I overdo - because of all people, we really know what "not feeling good" feels like. You'll get there again. You are an inspiration that you're trying to do something for you health at all.

Okay today was the last straw!!My weight has been slowly creeping up over the last year.
Today I went to the chiropractor who told me no more walking until we get my back feeling better, then I went shopping for a dress for a wedding and I found one but I had to buy it in a size I have never worn in my life.To say I feel down and defeated is an understatement.
On the positive side I did come home and had a very healthy lunch but I need some.. no.. alot of encouragement to stay on track for this week.I think If I can get a week under my belt with no cheating I'll have the strength to follow through the next week. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am going in reverse with my weight (hoping its fluid) and I am on peritoneal dialysis. I got a small infection in my catheter and it is sore and I feel blah, like I'm getting run down. I know I haven't been working out too hard because it's been since Friday since I really worked out good. I think though since I do have an infection & I had a fever last night that I should get some rest today. So I'm breaking all my streaks and all... :(

I have not lost....I thought I had but the scale at work was wrong!!! I know I'm trying to undo the pity party....I've been working out 4-5 times a week the past 3 weeks in a row I know it's not the only difference, I have to be careful of what I eat as well but I rebooted my current weight and goal again, I know I can do this!!!

I had been feeling great cause I did the Free Run 10 minute 3 days in a row, Quite an accomplishment for someone who is NOT a runner! I will focus on the fact that my health is better but I want the scale to MOVE MOVE MOVE...oh well I'm staying on my calories to day and keeping on keeping on!!!

that sounds like a fun trip. I can't stay away from mexican, either! mmmmmmmmm. MAybe you could choose one meal that you're going to order whatever you want, then be really careful with the other meals. And even if you do fall off the wagon, you can hop right back on! :)

We will be doing a lot of walking Saturday and I think visiting a cave Sunday so that should provide a bit of exercise. Hopefully the hotel has a fitness center too!

I'm going to Arizona- I grew up there and I know their Mexican food will be sooooooooo hard to stay away food. So good!

When I know I'm gonna be tempted like that, I challenge myself to eat small portions and try to order something healthy. If you can stay away from the decadent stuff, just eat a little of it! And there may be exercise opportunities-walking while shopping or whatever, maybe a pool? You can do it!

I'm alone all day today. My grandad died a year ago. I'm just trying to keep moving. Do some cleaning, did some Wii exercise (for like 2 hours, actually). I'm just not my best today.

I am SO PISSED OFF.. I never complete a challenge! Short or long term.. I always find a way to drop off. I disappeared from spark and the amazing race because i got pregnant and was scared, which is NO reason. Im now still overweight, unhealthy and unmotivated.. How do i turn this around?? i used to LOVE challenging myself and now i just feel like a loser..

I'm heading to the in-laws and I'm afraid of overeating. They love to cook (and the food is delicious!) but they cook like they have 20 people over when it's just the 4 of us and them. They insist on having everything eaten at mealtime, no leftovers. I know it's going to be hard to stay on track while there.

After a month of tracking everything I eat and all the exercise I do I am not seeing the results. The only thing really down is my weight but that's not always the best measure of how you are really doing.

I feel like a fraud and that I'm never going to reach my goal.

Hi April! I was going through the exact same thing as you described. I lost 15 lbs and bought P90X. Iwas all excited - ferociously stuck with it for a week. I had a major schedule change and gained back the 15 lbs I had worked so hard to lose (more than doubling my goal) and stopped being active all together. I was incredibly frustrated with myself. I have recently had a major internal change - for the better this time =D I went through a Free 4 Day Mini-Course on ShrinkYourself.com and a Free 7 Day Course on TheFitShack.com. Also, I'm in the middle of doing a 31 Day 'Loving Yourself Thin' program/exercise thing. I am so grateful to have come across all of those resources. They have spurred some great personal growth. I now have a completely different mindset. Don't get me wrong...I still have my challenge days (yesterday is a perfect example), but, overall, the foundation of my outlook has changed.

Sorry to have rambled so much - I just thought it might help to #1. let you know you're not alone & #2. share some of the solution-oriented resources I've used.

In the end, it's important NOT to judge yourself...and make everything you do a decision. What I mean by that is...DECIDE to watch TV for hours and hours OR DECIDE to exercise. Taking an active role in your decisions take the sabotage out of it. Hope this last bit made sense. If it didn't but your interest is piqued - let me know and I can explain more either off or online.

Much Love and Support your way April! emoticon

Things I tell myself:

I love you exactly as you are now - No matter how much you weigh or how you look. You are becoming fit and healthy!

You are my best friend. I love you and am here for you.

You lose weight easily!

Things I ask myself:

Will this bring you closer to or farther away from your goals?

How will you feel about this in 5 years?

Is this action coming out of love?

It's weird to realize that no matter how bad work is in a week, I *always* feel better when I stick to exercising. (Even when I do give in to the stress eating, keeping up with the exercise is key.) It's nice to see from posts below that work throws others off as well!

April, maybe you can try starting smaller. Maybe a couple of 10 minute workouts a day, or a walk with your family. Exercise needs to become a habit that you want to do. There are a bunch of ideas in the fitness articles, that may help you get started. Best wishes on your journey and you can do this!!! emoticon

Ok, with our amazing race challenge I have decided to try and lose 8lbs this month with 4 days of 30 minute cardio to start off...i am sure I will do more but i wanted to set a goal. I took my 198.2 lbs I weighed today and put my goal at 190.2. Do you think that is a good way to do it, or should I put my actual goal of 140? i need some encouragement so I will stick to it!

Thanks to everyone. I've been reading all your posts and they are very encouraging. I too have gone quite a while and the scale hasn't moved. It's probably because I keep going various functions and healthy foods are in short supply. I've gotta do better.
