If I use this method can I walk with my pedometer and count this toward my calories burned during the Safari?
How to Convert Steps to Calories Burned

If you wear a pedometer, you have probably wondered exactly how many calories you are burning with each step you take. You may even want to know exactly how much weight you can expect to lose. The number of calories burned varies from person to person, but a reasonable estimate can be deduced by following these steps.

Walk for half an hour. Write down the number of steps you have walked. Each 2,000 steps that you walk is roughly equivalent to one mile. Use a calculator to divide the number of steps that you walked by 2,000. This is your mileage per half hour.

Example: You walked 3,000 steps. So 3,000/2,000=1.5 miles per half hour.

Multiply the miles per half hour by two. This is how many miles you walk per hour.

Example: 1.5 x 2 = 3 miles per hour.

Go to a calorie calculator such as the one in the resource section. Enter your weight and choose 30 minutes as the time you exercised. Scroll through the activity menu and choose walking. Choose the speed that you calculated in Step 2. If your speed is 3.2, for example, choose Walking, 3.0, for a close approximation of calories burned.

Divide the number of calories burned by the number of steps you took during the half-hour you walked.

Example: 118 (calories burned for 150-pound person walking at 3 mph)/3,000 (steps walked) = .039 calories per step.

Multiply the calories you burn per step by the number of steps you take during each walk to get a good estimate of how many calories you burned during that time.

If you walk for one hour in Step 1, you can skip over Step 2. Be sure to select "one hour" in Step 3, if this is the case.

Just count your workout out calories everyday and post them with the template that everyone uses. When you reach 2500 total calories post your arrival your destination. Also pick a guide (1-3). At each destination there are 3 guides--- one has a sparkpeople challenge, one has a Wii challenge, the other has an animal. The object is to collect an animal at each destination. If the guide you choose does not have an animal you must complete the challenge I post for you. When done with the posted challenge pick another guide. Continue until you have collected an animal. You then start over accumulating 2500 calories to the next destination. You continue until you have finished the challenge.

You can join in if you would like. A couple more people joined this week. The challenge will run as long as it takes for you to complete all the locations. It has been going for 2 months now and no one has finished yet. I have a few getting close. It is a challenge for whatever pace you make it. You can post what ever you have done from whenever you last posted. Note, though, that you cannot carry over any calories between destinations. So you may be wasting calories burned by posting all at once. You can do it either way though.

Amy - I signed up for this challenge but I haven't been posting any of my calories. I keep a journal of my calories/workouts/food. Just wondering if I can go back and count all the calories that I've burned since June 1st or should I start from today since I haven't been posting.

Once you have your 2500 calories post on the main thread you have arrived at your destination and pick a guide number (1-3). I will then post what your guide has. If it is an animal then you start over on 2500 calories to the next destination. If it is a challenge you complete the challenge, post on the main thread you completed the challenge, then pick another number. You pick guides until you get an animal.

I would use the high intensity level. You can also just type in dancing into the fitness tracker and choose the type that is closest to what you were doing.

I am one my way. I have a question. For the Just Dance 3 should I use the SP WiiFit exercise advanced or high intensity calculator to find out calories I have burned? What other games fit this category so I can calculate them properly? This is going to be quite a journey but I am up for the challenge.

I hate to be a dork, but please take me off the list. For a good reason, though, lol. Just tweaked finances some and was able to afford a trip for a weekend conference and then spent 10 days with friend cross country. I will have no Wii in either place.
