It's a great challenge because you end up working the whole body. Easy when you are traveling- all you need is a deck of cards.

I just seen this challenge. What a great idea! I know it was a few weeks ago but I decided to challenge myself and I drew four cards. Drew J of Clubs, 5 of Clubs, 2 of Diamonds, and K of Spades so I had a great workout! I wrote it down in my notebook to challenge myself to do various exercises; not just my favourites.

You were the only one who submitted your total. You certainly stuck with it everyday. It is one of my favorite workouts. I love to do it with Wii Bowling in between frames. You can get 10 cards done in one game of bowling :)

I wasn't good about posting as I played my cards; but wanted to let you know that I enjoyed this challenge. See you in the new one.

Can you believe it? Today is the last day of our challenge. As you finish, please post your total number of cards for the week. You don't have to give me the cards you used. Just the number of cards you went through.

You will get your new challenge later this evening. Hope everyone has a wonderful day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I also liked this challenge and I agree with DEBFROMHOUSON that the high number could be kickers. It was fun, looking forward to the surprise for next week. Now I have to draw my hand and get to work.

Well, Rather than draw more cards, I went ahead and stuck with the five I had and just did minutes for the cardio yet again.

6 and 7 of clubs:
50 tricept dips
15 tricept extensions on cable cross machine
50 tricept pullbacks (or rows)
30 lat pulldowns
-it is extra because a trainer came by and told me how to correctly do the pullbacks so I did some more the "correct" way

King and 4 of hearts:
75 crunches
50 weighted wood chops
45 hip flexors

And the Jack of Diamonds -in minutes:
105 minutes of walking
35 minutes of yoga
and 30 minutes on the stationary bike

I even went to see the new Karate Kid and had only one handful of popcorn and a water!!

You got it. Diamonds are in seconds. So a 4 of diamonds could be 40 seconds of Jumping Jacks or 40 seconds of jogging in place. Ace of Clubs is 150 upper body exercises. Now, you can break that into 25 bicep curls, 25 push ups, 25 hammer curls etc..

If you are still confused, sparkmail me :)

I need to make sure I am understanding this correctly.

I got a 4 diamonds. that would be 40 sec or 40 min of cardio?
I also pulled a Ace of clubs - so that would be 150 reps of upper body exercises correct.

thanks plan on starting this tonight as was fighting allergies last night. Deborah

Thanks for the clarification of seconds, not minutes, for the cardio. That does make it more consistent. I was also fearful of pulling high cards for cardio over and over. LOL

Mon: 5 clubs - 50 reps triceps extensions for each arm

I decided this morning to draw 3 cards (as if I were having a 3-card Tarot reading - okay, I know I'm goofy!). I guess the fates were pretty good to me, though. I drew:

2 of clubs = 20 pushups
6 of hearts = 60 ab crunches
2 of spades = 10 squats + 10 lunges (my old knees wouldn't take more than 10 squats)

Maybe tomorrow I'll be brave and deal 5-card draw poker. LOL

LOL- seconds!? Seriously!!? I guess I should have checked in before doing 140 minutes today haha!

Monday:

I drew a 7 of hearts:
as well as a 2 of hearts:
~90 crunches

A Queen of diamonds:
and 2 of diamonds:
for which I did 140 MINUTES of cardio!!
~100 minutes walking
~40 minutes stationary bike
~20 minutes basketball
~and 10 min freestep (yes I know it adds up to more than 140, but once you have walked so far one way, you have to walk so far to get back home!!!)

and a King of spades:
~30 hip abductions
~30 hip adductions
~40 hamstring curls
~15 rowing squats
~15 lunges

Really, the seconds thing makes a whole lot more sense because when I was adding up what you said about Jillian having you use the entire deck in a single day, I didn't see how that was possible with one suit being something like 1000 minutes of cardio!! Too funny!

Now I am officially wore out!

Just now had a chance to check in here. Sounds like fun and I'll try to get busy on it tonight. I have a bunch of gardening and housework I need to get to after work tonight, so the actual dedicated "fitness" may have to wait until tomorrow morning.

Cardio is seconds not minutes. So the 9 of diamonds x 10 would be 90 seconds of cardio.

MYDECROSE30- Great job. 90 minutes of cardio on top of everything else. You definitely did circuit training :)

I learned it on BLC.com. I take the cards with me when I go on trips. That way I have no excuses.

If you all keep track of how many cards you do, I will have you all post your totals at the end of the week and whoever does the most, will get a Sparkgoodie, but be sure to do each suit. It really gives you circuit training because you are working all parts of your body.

This sounds like fun, I can't wait to get started. What I like most about it is that it is something you could do anytime, anywhere, something that actually GIVES you something to do when you are bored or have nothing to do.

So let's draw some cards and get to it!!!

Aces are always 150 of that suit. So if you get an Ace of hearts that would be 150 ab/core exercises. You could divide that up between torso twists/ hip bridges/ crunches etc. I would say to try to do one of each suit per day. Jillian's original challenge was the entire deck in one day.

I would say for the number of cards each day be up to you. If you want to deal yourself a hand each day or just draw one, it is up to you.

If you draw an Ace (aces are high) of Diamonds which would be 150 min. of cardio. For the Wii Fit you could divide it up between Free Step, Free Run, or any other cardio/aerobics choice in Wii Fit.

I really like this idea. I may keep a deck of card on the table (to keep me going) even after the challenge is over...

So do you just pick one card a day and do it, or are you supposed to be making a good card hand too? Are aces high or low?

Alrighty, I'm in for the challenge.

I'm not clear how this works for the cardio. For example, for an Ace of Diamonds, can you give me some examples of what I would do on Wii Fit?

Thanks much. Gotta go find those cards now.

Remember, you can still work out with weights etc. The bottom of the challenge was just a suggestion for those of you who only use your Wii.

Deck of Cards Challenge
This is a great way to work your whole body and all you need is a deck of cards. Each suit is assigned to a specific type of exercise:
Hearts = core
Spades = lower body
Diamonds = cardio
Clubs = upper body

The number on the card is the number of reps you will do X ten. Jacks = 110, Queens = 120,
Kings = 130 and Aces = 150 Jokers are wild 150 of whatever you choose.
There are many variations. If I get a high card such as a Queen of hearts- I may break up the type of core exercises I do. I may do 20 crunches, 20 hip bridges and so on until I get to 130.
2 of spades would be 20 squats.

For some ideas--You could use the ST portion of Wii Fit for the lower body..lunges, squats, boxing on Wii sports could be upper body- jabs, Abs...torso Twists, Cardio- any of the cardio exercises.
