I like the original the best.
I liked the original and not the remake. I haven't seen this one yet.
Not feeling it and not watching it. I hear this one is closer to the book, just like The Shining mini-series was closer to the book. The majority of people like the originals which were not as close to the book.
I have seen both versions of Carrie and a sequel. Not remotely interested, but thanks.
I have seen the remake, and it is...interesting, there may be spoilers, but only to people who haven't seen the original. If you haven't seen the original-go watch it now :)
For starters, I thought the leads were pretty good. Cloe Grace was a decent Carrie, and Julianne Moore was amazing. Did either bring anything new to the table? Not really, bu I thought they both did good. The effects were fair. If the original hadn't existed, this would have been awesome.
From there, my issues
1)it feels like a super hero story. This seemed, as opposed to a confused girl who has been bullied, a really thoughtful girl who discovers her powers and starts working with them, it's like a super hero origin story which is at the director wanted. We aren't really horrified at the prom, you feel more like-go Carrie
2) it tried to be about bullying. It shows how timeless king's work is in relation to bullying/retaliation/schools, ect. The thing is, we never saw any bullying or issues before the shower. If you want to make some sort of statement about bullying, then make it. If you want me to believe she's been tortured and ostracized for years, give me glimpses. Dont shy away. This director made boys don't cry-I know she can make a strong statement.
3) ths is a horror film and aremake of a classic. Yes, I am more than aware of school tragedies. The thing is, Carrie loses control of her powers, and, at prom, it's just not the people who tormented her that get punished. That's where the horror is-she loses it in a big way and causes something scary, sad, and awful to happen. We should feel awful for what happened to her, but also horror at what she does. Its complex and difficult-you sympathize with her as well as feeling awful for what she did ( example, i assumed tommy didnt diie when the bucket hit him, and he died when she locked him in the school) The scene is cleaned up so that, even when she snaps,it may look crazy, but it's localized.
I didn't mind the movie, I'd even watch it again, but it doesn't give me anything new that the classic didn't. But...if I had to pick, I'd go original. So, it's difficult, but the grade is based on comparison
