I totally had a different vibe from it! I actually liked it. I also hate remakes, they drive me crazy (NOES was probably the worst one), but, taking the lack of Ash into consideration (at least, right up until the very end), I actually enjoyed it. I thought it was intense (some sounds were so crazy it made me wince), loved the gore, and thought the lead girl and guy did a good job (though kudos to the second guy, because he was pretty hard core). I am actually hoping they continue the arc they planned- with a new army of darkness, and then the chick from this movie teaming up with Ash in a third one, it would be epic. I thought it was really intense. The end did have a little cheese, but...I would totally see it again. I would rant it 3.5-3.75 chain saws ;)
"Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival. "
Okay, I will start off by saying that it has been eons since I watched the original so I can't really compare. I have wanted to see this movie since it came out because I do remember the original being good (hey, Bruce Campbell... need I say more?) that being said, it sucked. I am not a remake girl (Kelly, you know this!!) but had high hopes since it had the original producers working on it. I was hoping for a bit of that 'being scared' feeling but I didn't get that. In fact, I actually laughed out loud at this one. The predictability and cheesiness of the digital effects were the main contributing factors to this. I dont' know if that was the angle they were hoping to achieve with this movie, but if it was intentional, I applaud them, they succeeded. If it wasn't (and I really don't think it was) it was just dumb. I really didn't like all the digital effects, somehow it took away from it.
I will give this one 2 chainsaws out of 5
