I didn't really get into the Saw movies...the plot basically makes me angry, but to each their own. I've seen the first one and the last one. The last Saw VII is freakin' fantastic! I saw it in the theater but not in 3D. You should just buy those last two...

Oooh, now I'm going to have to check out The Collector! Thanks!

I have been dying to see the last two Saw movies, but they are never on cable and we quit Netflix.

So, I just watched The Collector from my free Showtime preview!!! Holy cow! If you like the gore and grapic violence of any of the Saw movies, you will love this movie! It has awesome, believable graphic horror and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole movie. Plus, the soundtrack was brilliant! Must see and definitely one of my favorite horror movies! WATCH IT NOW!!!

I went to see "The Devil Inside" this weekend. Yikes. haha. I kept waiting for it to get good. . . waiting all the way til the credits. . disappointing. There were a couple brief glimpses of possible good scenes, but over all not enough to make up for the slow pace and cheap effects. Like, why was the video camera out of focus every time something evil was happening? REALLY? It's digital these days, I'm sure it would have been crisp. Ugh. It's cheaper to not have to show it on screen was all I could think of. They just are really taking advantage of the found footage genre. Well, things like that bother me. Might be an ok NetFlix movie to see, but I don't think it was worth the price of admission at a theater.

I agree about Scream 4. I was a huge fan of the Scream movies when I was in high school and college, so I was a little hesitant. Horror reboots lately have really disappointed me, but I really enjoyed this one. I know it was a squeal, but it also had a reboot feel to it. Loved it, but then I love most movies by Wes Craven.

Okay so I watched a movie on NetFlix last night that I had never seen called Homeroom. It wasn't a horror movie perse but definetly had an edge and lots of twists and turns throughout. I recommend it, it stars Erika Christainssen and Busy Phillips.

I would recommend watching the Saw movies in order the first time. There is information in each that effects the next. :)

I have been on a Horror Hiatus while vacationing with my family at Disneyland and Seaworld. I am happy to report that my son LOVED the Haunted House ride at Disney - requiring us to ride once each of the three days we were there. I also got to have my Pic taken with Jack Skellington - which was VERY cool. Will post later.... :)

For some reason I have Saw 3 and 4, but not 1 and 2. I have not seen any of them yet, but want to watch them this weekend. Do I need to watch 1 and 2 first or does it really matter if I watch the ones I have first?

I watched The Rite with Anthony Hopkins after this original post. Decent movie, more suspense and old school scares rather than "shocks" and gore. Anthony Hopkins is great as always.

This weeks reviews -

Forget Me Not - Group of graduating teens decide to take their party to a graveyard to play a local version of Tag. While there a unknown woman appears, joins the game and then mysteriously dissapears. As each of the friends is stalked by a wraith (think Scream meets The Grudge) and disposed of, life alters to allow for a world where they never existed. Pretty good actually for a "teenie-bopper" type of film. 3/4 SP stars

Insidious - If you haven't seen this one - you really HAVE TO! This is the 2nd time I have seen it (first on the big screen) and I still jumped in three places ! 5/5 SP stars

Reviews for the week - all but one are redbox

Fertile Ground - the lead female is perfect for the broken/need to be taken care of role. I found it creepy in the right places and not completely predicatable. Couple trying to concieve moves to a family farm after the latest miscarriage only to discover the place has a long sordid history that seems to be replaying again, and again. 3.5 / 5

Deadbirds - I wasn't thinking this would be very good, but I was pleasantly surprised. Set in the civil war, a group of bandidts holds-up in an abandoned homestead. The wierdness starts in the corn rows before they even get to the house. I liked the monsters, I liked the plot developement and the characters are good, 1/2 sympathetic and 1/2 scoundrels that get what they deserve. I really liked the ending - which can be difficult to get right in horror. 4/5 rather than 5/5 only because I didn't want to immediately watch it again.

Chained - Aussie film about a the inner struggles of a man who runs a brothel for a crime boss and the women who are held against there will in the brothel. I wouldn't recommend it - it should have never been tagged as horror.

Dark Water (Hulu) - This was a good film and worth the watch (especially since it's free) . A group of three travelers on holiday decide to take a fishing trip. Unfortunately they end up fishing in a grove of trees where a huge croc lives, and has decided to catch them for a meal. It was suspensful, I jumped a few times and the gore was very real looking (coming from an RN that may mean something to someone). solid 4/5 for this one!

I Spit on Your Grave - -

Wow! 6/5 on the violence scale (even before you get to the gorey parts). But this is an AWESOME revenge story. Great character developement and the plot, although somewhat obvious in the large items, holds your attention because the details are so da%#ed great! 5/5 overall. Watched it twice before returning it to Redbox.

Hulu movie reviews -

The Entrance - A detective allows a person claiming people are being killed in a building/parking garage to take her to the scene of the crimes. Things aren't exactly as she thought. It doesn't sound bad right - well it was. You can take a marginal idea and make it visually and suspensfully stunning (we horror fans can be very forgiving), but you can take a good idea and turn it into to schlock with bad acting and plot development. This one is bad, watch only if desperate and you have no other choices. 1/5

The Backwoods - Gary Oldman (whom I love!) heads a cast of two couples that go for a holiday to a remote cabin in the Spain woods. As they struggle with some personal dynamics, they find a deformed girl locked in an abandoned shack. The local folk set out to teach them a lesson for meddling in their affairs. Actually pretty good, the makeup on the girls is terrible (something I forgave because the plot unfolded well). 4/5

Jack's Back - 1980's film Starring James Spader (when he was young and muscular). Spader plays a budding Dr at a clinic in an area where women are being killed, Ripper style. It's okay, suspenseful in places, only a couple of gore scenes. 2/5

Allright - catching up on this post with multiple reviews

Stag Night - Good Gore film. Coming home from a stag party, trapped in the NY subway a group is hunted by a pack of mutant people. Good forr a gore film, enough plot twist to keep your attention and not totally predictable. 3.5 /5

Let Me In - great film I recommend it. An outcast pre-teen with some heavy mental issues is befriended by a newly arrived little girl, who is also a vampire. The question you can't help but think of at the beginning of the film, is answered at the end. 5/5

Psych 9 - A nurse with an unknown problem, takes a graveyard shift job dealing with closing patient charts for a shut down hospital. Unfortunately someone is brutally killing young women in the area. Something isn't right about the RN, but how is she connected to the killings, or is she at all. 3/5 worth a watch. Cary Elwes adds a great creep factor to this one

Review - Red Box rental " Blood Night"

Basic slasher/gore film with female nudity used in the plot line to keep your attention when the plot wears thin. Not so bad for a slasher film, if you are with friends and had a few drinks you would enjoy it. Standard teenage plot setup- legend born of truth comes to life to wreak havoc on a group of teens celebrating the legend.

I watched Salem's Lot one night, and I don't remember what part it was, but I shrieked! LOL--I didn't get to watch the rest. My parents' said that I was scaring my younger brother and sister, so we had to turn it off.

I keep trying to rent "Let Me In" - no luck yet, Anyone seen it? Is it worth keeping on trying to get it?

I am currently reading King's "Under the Dome". Just about 100 pages in, but I like it!

Wow..a remake of 'Salems Lot'? I'd love to see that. I read the book. I really want to read Stephen King's latest book. I also saw 'The Collector'..yikes..I had some wincing moments during that one. Would I have left the kid behind?? Damn right LOL!

Just saw 'The Rite' finally. Really enjoyed it. Anthony Hopkins does possession very well. Creeped me out. Still looking forward to seeing 'Priest'. I liked the original 'Single White Female' so another similar one like 'Roomate' didn't interest me..at least not having to pay for it.

I saw the origional "Salem's Lot" at the time it scared me silly - I watched the multi-part movie while babysitting. The book is WAY better than either one. I don't know about anyone else, but I still read horror, King, Straub, Koontz, Rice. Just finished Full Dark, No Stars by King. Couldn't put it down!

I just watched the remake of "'Salem's Lot" done by TNT with Rob Lowe. emoticon
I have not seen the original movie nor read the book, but its definitely not your typical vampire movie. It was horrific and suspenseful with a sad ending. It was totally worth watching: not corny or bad acting at all. I plan to read to book now. Stephen King never disappoints and always scares the bejeezes out of me.

Just wondering, are we just into movies on this team or does anyone still read horror/sci-fi books? I know I do!

Well, it's not horror, but I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 4, 3D, On Stranger Tides. I really liked it! I really missed Elizabeth and Will Turner, but I liked Penelope Cruz. Jeffrey Rush didn't disappoint. The music was good as always. I liked the other 3 movies better, but I still really liked it. And I still say that Captain Jack can swagger under my window any night! emoticon

Review of "Endure"

I wasn't expecting much since the cast included Tom Arnold and Judd Nelson. I was pleasantly surprised! The plot is interesting, the acting is pretty good, the twists keep your attention. Both of the female roles were very well acted and it hooks you from the first 60 seconds. Check it out 3.5 out of 5

reviews: Last week I rented 2 films
1) The Roommate - if you have seen Single White Female, don't bother with this one unless you have had a few drinks.

2) The Collector - this was an AWESOME horror film. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen long enough to knit one complete row! Fresh idea, ingenious plot twists, totally creepy bad guy. One of those, what would I do if it was happening to me films.

Made the Fiance watch The Lost Boys this weekend, he loved it - always a good choice.

So, I thought I would give The Lost Boys: The Tribe a shot. I ended up turning it off, it was absolutely horrible. That is a Sutherland brother who should not make movies.

I really want to see Paranormal Activity 2!

I just watched "Hunting Humans". No recommendation here. I was amused by the commentary occasionally, but overall, it was not enough to keep me interested. Low budget. 1 gun out of 5.

I'm behind in movie watching as I only see them at home on demand etc. I saw Descent 2 which was ok..still as gory as the first. I want to see 'Paranormal Activity 2' even though the first one didn't get good reviews..I did like it. I want to see 'The Rite' with Anthony Hopkins just because I like him. I also want to see 'Priest'. The main actor was in 'Legion' which I liked. I also want to see 'Insidious'.

I just watched The St Francisville Experiment on Hulu. It's done the "Blair Witch" documentary style. While it was interesting and enjoyed watching the photography, it wasn't terribly scary, perhaps because the acting wasn't very good. It was your basic B horror film. If you have something to do (I was sewing) and you want to be entertained for a little over an hour, check it out.

I saw INSIDIOUS last weekend. It was really good. Most scary movies don't scare me, but they do my husband. I generally have to watch any devil type movies by myself, because he's too scared to watch them. So, I did like Insidious was it overly scary? No. Was it really scary for my husband? Yes. lol

I saw DEVIL, by myself. It was a pleasant surmise! It was different from most devil movies. The ending was a bit predictable, but still good!

WHOOO!! I just saw Scream 4, and it totally and completely ROCKED! :) (IMO) I thought it was every bit as good as the first 3. I was afraid it would suck like "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer", but it was COOL! Lots of humor, good cast, etc. I took my 17 y/o to see it, and he loved it as well.

I'll be buying this one.

I know we all have different tastes in horror, but my own score was 5 Ghost Faces out of 5.

I saw Insidious this past week. It made me jump three times (not easy) and it was very enjoyable in that special spooky horror way. It was worth the $7 matinee fee.

I just watched a Hulu film I needed to give a shout about. The movie is INK. This is awesome storytelling accompanied by smart stylistic visual effects that are very fresh. I was completely awestruck by totaly new take on old themes. If you like your horror gorey and and campy - this is not the fim for you.

I just saw a preview for Grave Encounters. Its sort of a ghost adventures type show where they actually get crazy ghostly activity. Its an awesome preview with a creepy end. I can't cut and past from an ipad, but check it out on youtube. Very cool looking-in my humble opinion.

I just watched a HULU movie called the Saint Ange. It is done in english, but the entire cast has a french accent. It was refreshing and well done from writing, acting and effects viewpoint. Not going to rate it AWESOME, but definitely worth the watch. Enjoy!

I saw The Rite and came away a bit dissapointed. (mild spoiler alert - you may not want to read the rest until you see the film!) I liked the writing and the acting, Hopkins can do ANYTHING! I found two things to be a problem 1) the set of the courtyard area outside of Hopkins residence was so obviously fake that it would jolt me out of the movie and back to reality with a start. The other was unfortunately about Hopkins, at a couple of points in delivery of his lines when things were really heated that he sounds exactly like Hannibal Lector. I guess he was chanelling former evil.

The Rite is probably officially the scariest move I have ever seen! Now, I do have to say that it hit me a lot harder because I am Catholic then some of the other people I have talked to. It didn't need the crazy graphics, just REALLY good acting. I recommend it to anyone that is into theologically scary.

I can't wait for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, the more trailers I come across the more I want to see it! Anyone else interested?

Thanks for the sinkfest movie warning Dispatch!
