My goal for the Spring is to look awesome in a dress. My oldest nephew is graduating from High School and I want to wear a dress since it's been years.

Spring is officially here, so this is the last Winter Blah Challenge.

What are your goals for this spring? Do you want to lose a certain number of pounds? Don you want to change up your workout? Do you want to improve your diet? Be specific, use SMART goal making rules and let us know what they are.

The choices you make today will determine the path that your life will take.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

The spring weather makes it easier to go outside for walks with the little one. We usually go out every day but nice weather definitely helps with the motivation. Alas, we are back to winter here for hopefully a little while.

For the Spring question I love being able to get out and go for longer walks especially after it rains it smells so good.

I love the fresh fruits and veggies at the Farmer's Markets that start opening up soon.

A low fiber diet? Wow! That would be so hard to follow.

Spring makes me think of fresh fruits...just bought some strawberries at the store. Bought a pumelo too. Didn't dare for that, tho!

For the spring question, I love to walk, so when it finally warms up enough to be outside, and the ice melts so that it's safe, that gives me a big incentive to get out and walk. As for the food, that is hard for me to answer; I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in December, and am on a restricted diet because of it. There is hardly any fresh fruit I can eat now, which I really miss, and not a lot of variety of veggies either, since I have to stick to a low fiber diet.

I enjoy yard sales. Sometimes you can find some really good things like books and kitchen stuff. I can't wait to start going to some.

Every season has reasons to eat and reasons to exercise.

What is it about Spring that makes it easier for you to make healthier choices when it comes to food? What is harder? Same questions for exercise.

The choices you make today will determine the path that your life will take.

I don't go to a lot a yard sales, but sometimes I check them out if they are near me, and if they are selling books.

Last fall, they had a city wide yardsale downtown on Labor Day weekend; I got game, (don't remember the name of it now) that was almost brand new, for $3; I checked on Amazon when I got home and that same game was selling for $30.

The very first yard sale I went to, I was 12 years old. I bought a clock radio for $2. It lasted until I started college, so that was definitely worth the money!

But I can honestly say, I've never found a really good deal since then. And I haven't even stopped at a yard sale for at least 10 years. They just don't appeal to me. I guess I feel sort of weird, digging through other people's stuff while they're watching, LOL.

I've been to a few. Overall, I am not a fan. Too much junk to sort through. But they shouldn't be outlawed!!

Since I've missed a couple of challenges, I'm posting this one a little early.

Spring brings to mind, for me anyway, garage sales (or yard sales or rummage sales or whatever you call them). I happen to really like garage sales. I like going to them and I like having at least one per summer (if not two).

Tell us how you feel about yard sales. Love 'em? Hate 'em? Wish they would be outlawed? Tell us about your best find or your worst purchase.

BCGirl, I've wanted to build a little greenhouse since we moved in 10 years ago! Maybe I'll finally get to do that, at the new house... LOL

Happy growing!

We usually have a really small garden but this year we're expanding. My husband is building me a little greenhouse and we're going to build a bunch of raised beds. I hope everything grows well! I'm hoping to have a ton of tomatoes so I can make some tomato sauce to can.

We always have a garden, usually a large one. This year we're cutting back, though, because our house is up for sale, and hopefully we'll be moving before harvest time.

In the past we've planted tomatoes, corn, green beans, peas, onion, pumpkins, zucchini, yellow squash, various types of winter squash, cucumbers (pickling & fresh-eating varieties), beets, carrots, spinach, lettuce, peppers (hot and sweet)... Am I forgetting anything? LOL Oh and we have a large strawberry patch, and some blackberry and raspberry bushes. And I always have a "kitchen garden" with basil, cilantro, chives, dill, and thyme.

Anyway, this year I'm only planting beans, tomatoes, zucchini, butternut squash, and spaghetti squash. And I hope if we sell the house before harvest time, the new family will enjoy the fruits of my labor! LOL

We are still debating whether or not to have a garden. I want tomatoes and cucumbers and maybe zucchini. I can shred the zucchini and hide it in spaghetti sauce, lasagna, etc and feed it to my family.

I have brick pavers for a "yard" and you can't even call it a yard. I also have a rooftop deck, which gets very hot in the summer so it needs hardy plants. I can only plant stuff in containers. And I have a black thumb.
This year will will have some flowers in the window box, and strawberries. My neighbor gave me some strawberry seedlings last week. We shall see if they survive.

Sorry Team! Been busy and missed posting!

Spring means fresh veggies and fresh veggies come from gardens. Will you have a garden this year? If so, what will you plant? When will you start your seedlings? What will you do with any surplus?

That's a cool goal for Lent! Let us know how it goes.

I don't celebrate Lent, but I like the idea of doing something to improve myself or my life. I have Jillian Michaels book "Making The Cut" and have had it for awhile. I will try to actually read it and implement at least some of the things she suggests.

This year l am observing Lent a bit differently. Instead of giving up one thing (which in the past was as often a media item as a food one), l am going to work at keeping my total caloric intake under the max. allotted. (This is always a challenge for me, and entails a time commitment to do ALL the tracking as well as the discipline not to stuff my face mindlessly.)

I am also ADDING something for the first time: I am going to memorize a Scripture verse a day, so after the 40 days I'll have Romans 8: 1-39 hidden in my heart.

Okay...Tuesday's challenge. Another part of Spring for a lot of people (not everyone, I know and please don't take offense!) is Easter. And with that, Lent. One of the aspects of Lent is to choose something to abstain from or add to your life that will help you be a better you.

Taking that idea, pick something that you will work on in the next few weeks to make you a better you. Will you decrease your caffeine intake? Increase your fruits and veggies intake? Yell at people less? Assert yourself more often? Tell us what you choose and how you plan to do it.

The choices you make today will determine the path that your life will take.

I would say wardrobe as well. Sometimes I wish something would happen to my whole closet so I would be forced to start over. LOL! Instead, I am trying to replace pieces as they wear out with good pieces that follow the rules. Not sure how I'm doing with that, but I'm trying!

Definitely the wardrobe! I don't know where to start because I need everything. I have gift cards to Ann Taylor and Bebe, so I will start there. Went to both stores over the weekend and only found one thing to buy. Hopefully they will get some new things in soon. I used to love Ann Taylor Loft (not so much regular Ann Taylor) but lately the clothes seem to have deteriorated in quality (super thin), with no interesting details whatsoever, and the prices have gone way up! I mean, $60 for a plain, long-sleeved top? REALLY?!?

BTW, I DID finally go through my closet yesterday and have a few more things to donate. It felt great to purge. I had some clothes I had been hanging on to that my mom gave me from her closet when she cleaned it out. She thought they were too good to donate and would be cute on me so she gave them to me. They just weren't my style but I felt guilty donating them. I finally decided to do it, since they were just taking up space in my closet and I could not see myself wearing them.

I'll pick my wardrobe. I've lost about a size so far and although nothing is physically falling off my body, my jeans are so saggy I've been walking around hauling them up at the hip so they don't drag on the floor. So where I'll start is buying new jeans, and this time I'm gonna make sure they fit right for my whole body, not just buy 'em 'cause they're big enough to go around my waist and still fasten. LOL.Don't know yet what will come after the jeans but I'm planning to shop like Stacy and Clinton are critiquing me after!

Mine would be my hair; I've been covering it with hats, scarves or wig since about last May or June, because it thinned out from chemo. Right now it is still short, but all different lengths throughout, since the hair that thinned out grew back. I am planning on going to the salon the last week of this month, and seeing if they can do anything with it, so I can go out with my real hair and not have to cover it up! I am still on chemo, but this one isn't causing hair loss.

Once I have a nice cut that looks presentable, I can start growing it out again.

Oops.. forgot to post Friday's challenge on Friday!

Spring is full of fresh air and fresh starts. Pick something that you would like a fresh start on. It could be your wardrobe, your career, your eating habits or your shoe collection!

I'd pick Hawaii (would have picked the Caribbean but for the ongoing effects of the oil spill in the gulf), and I'd like to take all three grandchildren and teach them to snorkel in the warm water. Got my spot on the beach on Kauai all picked out.

I'd like to go to Australia, but would want more than one week to do that (loooooooong flight!).

So, for this Spring Break, I'd like to take the kids to Disney Land or Disney World. DH would have to come too!

Oh, this one is tough. Where wouldn't I go?!? I want to go to Europe (Germany to visit my aunt and cousin, back to Paris, Italy), New Zealand and Australia, back to Israel, and, closer to home, Hawaii. I have a permanent wanderlust.
I would take my husband and would like to take my daughter but not sure how she would travel at this age.
But I haven't taken a "spring break" since college.

Sorry that Tuesday's challenge is so late.

Spring Break is coming up. Plan where you will be taking your Spring Break vacation. If you could go somewhere, anywhere, for one week, where would it be? Tell us where you would go, why and who you would take (if anyone).

The choices you make today will determine the path that your life will take.

I tried a new drink today; Bolthouse Farms Vanilla Chai Tea; I found it in the refrigerated juice section of the produce department. It was very good! Not as thick as a smoothie, but a little bit of a creamy texture. It's not something I would drink everyday, since a serving is 160 calories, but each serving also has just 3g of fat an 10 g of protein. The extra calories are good for me though on the days I can't eat much because of my gastroparesis flaring up, as well as the protein.

I am hoping to participate in the Susan P. Wheatlake run/walk in May. The Susan P. Wheatlake Center is for women with cancer; they can get information, free wigs and scarves, or just talk to someone for support. The run part is race, but I would be doing the walk, which is not a race, but is a way for those like me who cannot run to participate to raise awareness.

The race that I would like to do is the Diabetic Walk. It runs on both sides of my family from my Mom to Grandparents to Uncles. I have been diagnosed pre-diabetic. That the race I would like to do.

I love the shoes NY!

My favorite color is pink; I really like these shoes; they are cute and girly, and I the heel height looks like they wouldn't be uncomfortable to wear. I can't do super high heels.

Adorable shoes, NY! :)

Yesterday's workout included a new-to-me machine: the stair stepper. Well I've been on it before but maybe once or twice. I don't use it regularly, so that counts for the challenge, right? :)

Will have to think about what to buy for spring!

Tweety I love love love your coat. Plus I love that site! I bookmarked it.

I love the DWTS workout DVDs. It makes you feel like you're just dancing and not working out. I will be doing them tomorrow as well.

I love heels and being a little over 5 feet I'm always wearing them. I found these too irresistible.

I tried a new workout today, Richard Simmons Boogie Down the Pounds; I need some practice getting the steps right, and I could only do 15 minutes, but that's ok, because I did a strength training workout earlier today. With my sciatica, and being fatigued from chemo, I can only do 15-20 minutes of cardio at a time right now.

Paula, I like that coat. It is cute...and Iike the color! You'll have to let us know how the DVD's are!

DeeLynne1, if you'd like to show us a new sweater for the "cold" days, that'll work for the coat challenge. We have until Tuesday! Let us know what DVD's you get and how you like them.

Shari, Yay!! glad to hear that the weather is finally cooperating. Hope it keeps getting better.

CMR, if you'd like to do some extra vacuuming - I mean exercise! - you can come to my house! LOL!

You're all doing great!

I did some heavy vacuuming this morning for half an hour and was going to count that as my exercise. (I did break a sweat.) Then I did 42 minutes on the treadmill after supper.

I got outside for a walk today, something I haven't done for at least 6 weeks because of the weather. But today, it finally made it to 30°F, and no wind. It felt good to be out in the sun and get some fresh air.

Sign me up for the exercise challenge. I've been feeling the need to change up my exercise program anyway so I'm going to reward myself for doing this challenge by buying myself a new exercise video - maybe something "dance-y" for a change of pace. Meantime I'm going to add some hand-weights to my exercise program for this challenge. I didn't do the coat challenge since for me one of the pleasures of living where I live is that I will never need to shop for a coat again - I wear suit-weight jackets, or sometimes a sweater, in the winter when it's "cold" - LOL!

I'm doing my coat challenge, I really need an everyday light coat. I have my heavy Winter coat, but sometimes I need a coat that I can use everyday and it's not bulky.

For my birthday this month I just bought myself the Dancing with the Starts workout DVD's about 3 of them. I'll be dancing my workouts this coming up week.

Friday: everything I read said that exercise is a great way to beat the winter blahs. So the challenge is to do some exercise. If you already exercise, add some time or weight to your routine. Or change it up, like a new routine or different machine. If you don't exercise, do!

You have a full week to get this challenge done. And you still have until Tuesday to pick out a new coat (Tuesday's challenge). Let's beat those blues!

The choices you make today will determine the path that your life will take.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

I like it! Very well thought out.

I picked this one. I like the sporty look and since I don't wear skirts, I don't need the longer coat.

I went "window shopping"; I picked this trench because I need a warmer weather coat that is not "sporty" looking. I like the khaki color, it's a neutral that will go with anything, and I can add a pop of color with a handbag. It's belted, so it has a shape; and I like the length; I am short, and this is just the right length to wear with a skirt or dress but will also work with pants or jeans. It's a classic that won't go out of style.

First challenge - buy a new coat. Either in real life or just window shopping, go pick out your dream coat. Follow the rules and then report back here, with pictures please, with what you picked out.

It sounded like we had interest in a challenge, so let's do it! I got some great ideas and really appreciate all of the input. First, we're going to start on February 1st. Second, there will be two challenges each week. I'll post the first one on Tuesdays - the day that WNTW now airs! - and the second on Fridays - the day WNTW *should* air (LOL).

Each challenge will have something to do with beating the winter blahs or something from the show or both. Each time you complete a challenge, please post to this thread (I'll use the same thread for the whole time) so we can all see how the team is doing. You'll have a full week to complete each challenge.

We will do this for the full month of February. If there is enough interest and participation, we can extend it.

If you have any ideas for challenges, please let me know. I can use all the help I can get!

Let's beat the blahs!!!!
