I did the triple crown last year (CB full, LJH, AFCH). Unfortunately, I think I will be deployed for AFC. I am considering contacting the race director and asking if they will let me "participate" by running on the treadmill while underway, and maybe taking a digital picture of the stats on the Mill the day of. I completed the Carlsbad full this Sunday, and I'm thinking about the San Dieguito Half Feb 8. Anyone else???

Hey there!

Looks like we have some runners in this group. I'd love to meet a couple other girls who live in the PB area and are interested in running either early in the morning or in the evening after work. If you're up for that, let me know!

Which part of the route did you do last night? How was it? I did a 7 miler around Carmel Mountain area yesterday and my knees are not happy with me either:-) I am hoping the 1/2 is not as hilly as the route I ran last night!

Wednesday at 6-6:30 sounds great, just let me know where you would like to me and what time (6 or 6:30 will work for me)

Well, I just did my long run in Carlsbad (part of the half marathon route) last night and my knees are still recovering. I have another idea...I can do a little bit earlier run on Wed, Thurs or Friday at 6-630pm if we can run near RB High School (which is where my daughter has swim) are you up for that? I can figure out a 3-5 mile course but we may want to bring flash lights because I don't know how well lit the area is.

Yaay. My schedule just changed a bit, I am doing a long run Thursday evening in Carlsbad, but I now have Tuesday night open...does that work better for you? I was thinking a short run 3-5 miles? I prefer to go earlier than later, but if going after 7:30 means I will have a running partner I will make it work:)

I would love to run the 56 but I haven't yet. Probably not the best at night but once the time changes, it would be ideal. Hmmm, next week....How about Wednesday or Thursday? What is the latest you can run? My daughter has swim from 630-730 but I can figure something else out or go after she gets done! I am excited!

Unfortunately I have school from 8AM to 9PM Friday (yuck) and again Saturday. I could do a short run Sunday (3-5) or something longer next week...any evening except Monday or Tuesday would work:-) Have you ever run the 56? I did my first long run there (7 miles) and I loved it. I don't think it's lit at night though...

I am interested at least occassionally. I need to run this friday but I am up for a long run...at least 10 miles. I live in Sabre Springs. We run at a similar pace and I would LOVE to meet some more sparks!! I am excited that you signed up for the 1/2!!!

I have signed up for the Carlsbad 1/2 and have made it a goal to do the triple crown...but since Carlsbad is my first 1/2 we will see how that goes first;-)

Is anyone running in the Carmel Mountain ranch/Poway/Rancho Bernardo area in the evenings during the week? I could also run near Escondido or anywhere in the near area. (My husband does not want me to run alone at night...and I really don't like treadmill runs.) If anyone is interested in running, let me know. I run about an 11 min/mile pace and have been doing 3-5 miles, but would be interested in running farther:-)

Ohhhh, thanks for the info. I appreciate you posting it here for us lazy sparks! LOL! (Lazy peeps don't sign up for half marathons though...so where does that leave me? lol)

I am interested but I am going to see how it works out with my other goals for 2009. I love the prospeect of this though. I REALLY want to participate in the breast cancer 3 day next year. A triathlon is another goal (did I already post this? Sorry if it is a repeat) and I am not sure the timeline of these activities. ANyone else interested in the breast cancer 3 day?

This website says that you can run the full marathon for the start of the Triple Crown. And this if copied from the Carlsbad Marathon's FAQ's page:

What is the Half Marathon Triple Crown and how do I qualify for it?
A trio of Southern California half marathon race directors have formed an alliance to create a Half Marathon Triple Crown award to honor participants who finish all three half marathons in the same calendar year.

In addition to the Carlsbad Marathon/Half Marathon, the threesome includes the La Jolla Half Marathon and the America's Finest City Half Marathon.

To qualify for the Triple Crown, simply register for and complete (within each event's time limit) the Carlsbad Marathon OR Half Marathon, the La Jolla Half Marathon, and the American's Finest City Half Marathon all in the same calendar year and we'll take care of the rest! Special commemorative medals will be waiting for all who qualify at the Triple Crown booth located at the finish area of the America's Finest City Half Marathon.

For the Triple Crown you can run full marathons in some or all of the races (I am not sure if La Jolla has a full marathon available). You just have to run at least a half in each of the races. Also, you MUST use the same name and address to register for each race. Hope this helps!

I am running the Triple Crown and the Rock & Roll Marathon too. Can't wait!!!!!

My goal for the year is to do the Triple Crown and Rock and Roll... The schedule looks pretty doable... Once you do Carlsbad, you can maintain that level of fitness for the one in April, while training for Rock and Roll. You'll be really prepped for R&R after running two halves (physically and mentally). I'm so excited!

Hi Leah,

In 2008 I did the triple crown and ran the R&R marathon. Worked out great for me--the halfs were good training runs for the marathon, and I had plenty of time to recover after R&R before I did AFC in the late summer. It was fun :)

I am planning to join the WCRR this upcoming season, too!! Yay!! It will be wonderful to have the support of the group and have them organize the runs so all I have to do is show up and run! Yay!

I hadn't considered the triple crown because I wanted to train for a marathon...probably the Rock and Roll or AFC. Do you have to do all halfs or all marathons or just run in each event? Maybe I could do two halfs and a marathon? Hmmm....

I'm so excited other people are interested! I hadn't thought about the hills on the La Jolla. I guess after Carlsbad it will be time to focus on doing at least one run with hill repeats a week... Ugh.

I did the triple crown last year. La Jolla was definitely a challenge with the heat (90+ degrees), the hill, and the time limit, but I managed it. It was fun, and I loved getting the extra medal emoticon

One suggestion: sign up early, both La Jolla and AFC fill up quickly.

It is my goal too! Not too sure about the La Jolla Race since it is hilly and the time limit is close for me but I plan on attempting it any way!!! Will need to concentrate on hills eventually!

I know there are several of you out there running the Carlsbad 1/2 marathon... Its part of a three race series called the Triple Crown, which also includes the La Jolla Half (April), and the America's Finest City Half (August). Finishers of all three races receive a special medal, and their name is listed on the Triple Crown website. It's one of my goals for 2009 - I'm excited to see my times improve over the year. Anyone else interested?
