Pilates is an effective, yet gentle and enjoyable system of exercise. This makes it perfect for the non-athlete; the Pilates method is particularly suited for people who feel too inactive, too overweight, too uncoordinated, or too out-of-shape to begin a normal fitness routine. Oddly enough, the physical therapy type applications of Pilates are rarely emphasized, and Pilates is generally only viewed as suitable for extremely athletic people like ballet dancers.
