Yes, herbal teas are fine because they don't have caffeine which is dehydrating. But black tea wouldn't count. Decaf coffee could probably count too, now that I am thinking about it.

PS - It DOES get easier with the water thing. It used to be really hard for me, but now most days I have at LEAST 72 ounces of water. The only other thing I drink is coffee - 2 cups a day. The rest of the day I ONLY drink water, herbal tea (which counts as water) or flavored seltzer (which is really just carbonated water). If I drank other beverage it would be much tougher to get my water in. HTH

Luna - hope your 2 year old feels better! Don't worry about it - I am sure you will be able to participate soon!

KGREINER - Whatever activity you do (running, walking, workout videos, etc.) just add your minutes to the previous total to get the new total. So if the most recent person posted 30 + 10000 = 10030, and you did a 25 minute workout video YOU would post 10030 + 25 = 10055.

Does this make sense now?

We are leaving sometime tomorrow after Evie's Cardiologist appt to go out to my FIL for the weekend. We will be having Easter Sunday at my moms then coming home sometime on Sunday. I won't have access to the internet except from DH phone. Which stinks. So I am just going to log onto SP to make sure I don't loose my perfect attendance :-) and log my fitness minutes to my Spring 5% challenge.

I am taking exercise dvds, SP printouts, and equipment with me. I also get lots of exercise there walking around and playing. I will play catch up Sunday night/Monday.

Keep at it, girl! Since you have "less to lose", it is going to take you longer to get to your goal weight. You're not going to drop alot of weight, especially at first. When one first starts a fitness plan, the muscles gain alot of water. Figure you will lose about 0.5 - 1 lbs a week. And it will probably take you about 12 weeks until you start to see a noticeable difference in the mirror.

Really watch what you eat and track everything you put in your mouth. Stay within your calorie range. Weight loss is mainly about nutrition. Read the great nutrition articles here on SP.

Do cardio 3 days a week (its not necessary to do more than 60 minutes of cardio per session -- more than 60 minutes the body breaks down muscle for energy) and strength training 2 - 3 days a week with heavy weights, working your muscles to fatigue in 2-3 sets at 8-10 reps per set.

Thanx for the info! Along with what you wrote I decided to do some research and I'm going to try to eat a little more calories since I am working out harder...I know at times I've felt like I was starving at the end of the day because I was trying to stay at the lower end of the calorie intake goal...so I think I am going to aim for the higher end of my calorie goal...Any other info or advice is greatly appreciated!

Have you tracked your measurements? When the scale doesn't budge and you're sticking to your plan - you're still losing in the form of inches.

Also, are you eating roughly the same amount of calories every day? If so, you may want to consider eating a few hundred extra {healthy} calories one day to give your body a little "shock." If you're burning too many calories and not eating enough your body's metabolism will adjust to compensate for the drastic deficit.

I also work out 5-6 days a week for roughly 45-75 minutes but I adjust the intensity from day to day. For instance - yesterday I jogged 3 miles and walked 1 mile. Today I'll probably only jog 1 mile and walk 2.5 - 3 miles. Wednesday I might jog 1.5 miles and walk 2.5 miles. Thursday I'll aim for 2.5+ miles and walk 1 mile. Friday I'll keep it light by only walking. The next week I'll try to increase my jogging mileage by 0.25 miles on my

This allows my body a chance to recover between the harder workouts - and I don't get "used to" any particular workout.

I also try to eat a little bit more one (occasionally two) days a week - this helps keep my weight loss from becoming stagnant.

Hey Blue team~

I have a question. I have been working out for about 45-60 min 5x a week and I haven't really noticed a decrease in weight or anything! I have been following the SP food tracker but I haven't seen any results...I'm going on week 3 of working out and I must admit I am getting a little discouraged. Is there anything anyone can think of to help me out. If it's workout longer or anything at this point to help keep me going! Thank you in advance!
