This week has been rough! It's the 2nd week of fall break (my kids go to year round school) and my husband is in training this week, so we are all on the same schedule- no staggering. It's exhausting, but nice to have family time together every night. I haven't been able to work out this week- too much going on.

Tired today. I think my clinical deodorant is causing my allergies to act up. I can tell my nose gets running and my throat drains more at night a bit after I put it on. Ugh! I just bought 2!!

I hope you two are having a great week. The weather here is awesome!

Had a good day today relaxing after my 2 hour strength training session with a trainer. Sherrie kick butt. I thought I was doing pretty good until she said it is time to increase the weight that you are using. I was doing all the reps without stopping and my muscles were not stressed. After the increase I couldn't hardly do half without stopping to rest. I took my son to his martial arts class tonight and found out that he is testing for his purple belt in November. Robert was pretty pumped. I hope everyone has a good day with whatever you do.

EEEEWWWW! I can just imagine all the screams and jumping around. Boy oh boy what an exciting day!

Sharon, I take a kettle bell class on Fridays at my Y and the lower ones are the 10 and 8.8 lbs. Then you move up to 15 and 17.6 lbs, then 20 and 25 lbs, I believe. I just used a 20 lb one last week because I was a tad bit late and it was tough lifting it above my head and after swinging and lifting some of the moves, I was beat. If you have never done it before, I would try the 10 and then the 15.

It's a great workout.

I did some jogging/walking then my Bodyworks class today. I just had a delicious homemade loaded potato broccoli soup from last night. It is so filling!

Well, I think I will put up some Halloween decoration before I get the kids. No time to go to the bank today, oops.

Hope all are well.

I spent over 2 hours today at the fitness center working out on all the cardio machines. I had an actively afternoon also. I help in the 4th grade special with reading and math and today was pretty exciting. While we were doing math one of the students said that there is a grasshopper up in the light. I looked up and saw that it was not a grass hopper but was a baby mouse. The teacher asked if I would go look up the janitor to get it out. I did. He came to the class room with a ladder and pulled down the light cover. The mouse fell out and started running around the room. The teacher has two aides and me in the room. She said to all of us get it don't let it get away. I didn't know that baby mice could run so fast. It ran out into the hall and started to go over to the middle school. I told the aide that was helping me that the mouse wants a higher education. We trapped the mouse and the janitor came and stepped on it and put it in the trash. My son is calling us murderers. So now I just want to sit and rest a bit before starting supper. I hope everyone has a good evening with whatever you do.

Tomorrow starts a new workout week and am hoping that I can exercise all week without any injuries or stress getting to me and derailing me. Hope everyone is having a good day out in the nice weather. I have been thinking about adding the kettle weight to the workout but don't really know what weight to start with. The fitness center has them in the mens workout area and none in the ladies.

Yea, Sharon!

I did about a mile and a 1/2 on the tred mill this morning before my Body Works class at the Y. Both were good work outs, I'm tired.

I hope your weeks are going fine. The weather here is beautiful!

Hi guys,

I went to the fitness center today and rode the bike for 30 minutes. I did get in my water today. The cold I think has turned into allergies. I'm not freezing anymore and have more energy. I am going to start tomorrow off with meeting up with friends and are going for a 4 mile walk in the cool morning air and have fun catching up with each other.

I hope everyone has a good evening today and a great day tomorrow.

I did Suzanne Somers before I found Spark and it worked a little. My husband just griped and griped about it. Her plan was similar to the Adkins with the protein being a big focus, but she had you separating all your foods. So, you would eat your carbs separate from your protein and fat because they digest differently. I would have my OJ wait 20 minutes and then I could have my oatmeal (with either FF milk or water) and then have to wait 3 hrs. to eat any protein/fats. You could eat full fats like bacon, eggs, sour cream, heavy whipping cream, etc. because the low fat stuff had artificial things in their or modified starches. You also had to get rid of foods that didn't have natural sugars. So I went through and gave away my spaghetti sauce, ketchup etc. and only bought the ones with none in the ingredients. Bread was the hardest one to find.

It all made so much sense! I did it for almost a year. I lost some weight, but it was so hard to eat out. They combine carbs and protein fat. The idea is to eat lean still and eat your veggies. Farmers didn't have light cream or lean bacon and eggs. I didn't lose enough and not fast enough. Once you lose your desired amount of weight then you would go to Level 2 which is mixing the foods. It's the maintenance plan.

Adkins seemed more like a starving plan. You would deprive you body of carbs and we know that isn't good. All things in moderation.

Sparkpeople is the best thing that has happened to my body. I know how to manage what I eat and food is not the enemy. I love food, but I just can't eat everything under the sun unless I want to be the size of the sun. Some foods won't help my body shine and work well, so why waste my time on them. I never knew I was lacking fat and protein before I started logging in daily. I still have to do it regularly. I've been doing this since 2008. I've lost 53 lbs and will probably still need to keep track and exercise my whole life. I'm ok with that. It's a lifestyle change, not a diet.

I hope things with you become more peaceful and clear.

My kids still try and get out of things like that at eleven and ten but yes I just stand my ground. They way the price of groceries are going up you have to get all for the buck or I feel like my kids waste. Mikayla has ADD and her meds make her eat so little and she only weighs barely sixty pounds but my son is overweight for his age. I really have made him cut back on this intake and get more exercise outside. He is into doing archery this year and hope that will help him muscle up some and lose the weight. I have been going through a real tough time right now myself with some outside issues and having a tough time wanting to do much of anything. I have got to get back into the groove that's for sure and get my weight off. My sister has done the Adkins diet and lost sixty pounds but afraid to do that myself with my diabetes problem as well. I wish both of you a great week!!

Wow, my 7 year old daughter threw and big ole fit this morning. She had about 1/4-1/3 C milk left in her bowl from cereal (Golden Grahams) and didn't want to drink it. Dad and I had just about enough of her "opinions" and both, without conferring, decided to team up on her. She fought back. She cried, slobbered, spit and acted like she was going to die. We told her she needed to just drink it and get it done with. She ended up at the sink because she looked like she was going to puke. She was so worked up! I don't know if I've told you guys how much of a drama queen she is and has been. She finally had to drink another cup because she spit or puked out the other stuff because of being so agitated . She will do this to get out of things. She finally downed the other cup and is taking a bath. This whole ordeal took 16 or so minutes.

If this was chocolate milk, it would have been gone w/out hesitation. I even let her heat it up afterwards. I told the kids they are becoming too picky and I might just get rid of all the cereals except the Multigrain Os and something like Smart Start or Total. They are lucky it's not what I had when I was a kid Grape Nuts, plain Shredded Wheat or plain Cheerios and if we wanted sweetness we got raisins. Abby is good with letting me mix the Lucky Charms with plain Cheerios, though. She knows I am worried about the sugars they are getting. Both sets of grandparents have diabetes, but the also ate garbage and no exercise for a long time.

Well, thanks for listening ladies. : ) Enjoy your Sunday!

Sharon-----I feel for you on the head colds. I always say I'd rather have just about anything but a stuffy nose. I just can't stand having to breath with my mouth hanging open, because then you are all dry, have to drink and then have to pee (even more than I usually do), your lips get chapped and if your nose runs in addition, then you get a sore nose because you are still plugged up! UGH! I hope it clears up soon. Saline solution works wonders for me, not Afrin, but just the plain ole saline.

I've been busy with migraines and exercising. Finally didn't have a migraine to day and ran errands after kettle bells, then helped with the Brownie Cookie Caravan then off for a date. Just got home. Need to sleep to go back to the school in the morning to help rearrange Parent Teacher Committee closets. We have a game night with another family tomorrow night that we are all looking forward to.

I hope you guys have a great weekend!!

Hi guys,

currently am dealing with a head cold but am going to try to push through it an be a supportive member of the team. I went to the fitness center today and rode the bike for 20 minutes and walked on the elipictial for one hour. I then went in to do the strength training since I put Tuesday and Thursday aside for that purpose. I started the first machine and noticed my muscles were still sore from yesterday. I went to one of the trainers and they suggested not doing ST today but to sit in on the Silver Sneakers Class for Seniors and use 2 lb weights and the lightest resistance band there is. Becky said to wait til next Tuesday to start back with the ST. She said that would get your muscles a chance to rebuild and to get the soreness to go away. She also suggested on taking Saturday and Sunday off from Cardio since I have done it 4 days this week already. I don't know what this is going to do to the Challenge that starts Saturday. But I am going to give it a shot. If the weather is fine I might go for a quick walk to clear the air and thoughts. I did get in

Dad's doing good. I go over every morning to fix breakfast for him. He is still working and driving to work 30 miles away. I don't know many 86 year olds who are still working or yet driving 30 miles to work. He says that if he quits work then he wouldn't last a day at home. Thanks for asking.

Spent 120 minutes at the fitness Center. 40 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes on the stepper and 60 minutes in an aerboic class. Sorry I didn't get by yesterday. Yesterday I started the Biggest Loser Workout on the WII for 36 minutes. The work out was easy. I might up the intensity from easy to moderate. Yesterday was my husband's 49th birthday. I know I shouldn't have done it but I bought him a birthday cupcake cake and his favorite supper KFC Grilled Chicken. But my son said Mom it is only once a year what is the deal. But with all of that said I still lost one pound this week.

I hope everyone has an Awesome workout.

Sharon,

Awesome job exercising! I've been trying to boost my exercise lately and change my foods, too. We had a beef barley soup last night. Boy was it good. Easy, too. 1 can Hormel beef and gravy, 1 can (sm) tomato sauce, pepper, 2 C cooked barley. This is all added to 2 C fat free chicken broth boiled with 1 1/2 C onions and 4.5 oz chopped carrots. Hubby had 2 bowls and then took the rest to work. It made 4 1/2 C w/1 C being a serving. It's about 336 cal. and less than 5 fat, good protein and fiber as well.

Hey, how's your dad doing?

Way to go on the weight loss Sharon and your doing great. I have not been gaining but not losing either. I have really been going through some issues right now that keep my mind so preoccupied and trying to stay focused with it.
As for allergy shots I took them along with my son for three to four years and they really helped both of us. We still have a few allergies when the seasons change but not like what it used to be like. We worth checking into that's for sure.
Wishing you all a Happy Tuesday and have a great day.

Spent yesterday working out at the fitness center. Worked out for 156 minutes. I walked on the treadmill for 60 minutes and the bike for 36 minutes. Then I attended the Silver Sneakers Class for 60 minutes. My softball coach from child hood is in the class. We talk of old times of me and her kids playing on the same team and the year we came in first place. She was telling the class you should have been there when Sharon jumped up from catchers position and ran down towards the dug out to catch a foul ball. She no one else even tried to catch the ball. I am the youngest one in the Silver Sneakers Class. But I do enjoy it. I lost another pound this week. I'm happy because I thought that after losing 11 pounds last week I wouldn't lose anything this week.

Hope everyone has a good night with whatever you do.

My G-pa was in the wars, but I don't hear him talk about it much. My hubby's G-pa was as well. He's gone now. Both of our parents were military. My dad was Air Force and his was Army. We both got to see foreign land as children. I really hope our kids get to experience that. Some places were so beautiful and peaceful.

Maybe I should have my son tested for foods. I think he had been tested allergy seasonal wise a long while back and nothing turned up. It was the little prick thing on the back. Wouldn't it be interesting if it were something he really loves like an ingredient in nachos or pizza. He could eat those every day or chicken and ranch. I really wish ranch hadn't been discovered for him. I think it was my husband or at a friend's house. Ugh!

Anyway, I hope you guys have a great week. I think the rain here is suppose to clear up and the temperature are suppose to get nice as well. :)

Sharon that's neat to hear all war information about your family. I have a father in law who was in the Korean war and Vietnam. My hubby was also in the Persian Gulf war as well but he fixed the planes to get them back up in the air. They were both Air Force men. I have a little one who is battling allergies and weather changes. She has been coughing the past few days with a runny nose as well. She had a awful time of sleeping the night before last and so did I as well. Yikes it's so tough when kids are sick especially my little one. We got some rain here last night so the humidity here today is pretty awful. Ready for another cold front to come through again and drop the humidity once again. I hope you both have a great week!!

the foods and mold Robert has not been sick any.
Sorry to hear about your allergies getting to you. Before I was tested to see what I was allergic to I would have colds every three weeks. So when my son was three years old I had him tested to see what food and meds and other things he's allergic to. I'm glad I did. He is allergic to all kinds of pinecillin meds and a few foods. So since we have been staying away from what Robert is allergic to he hasn't been sick any.

Having a good relaxing day with my family talking about old times and stories that our relatives told about our family line being related to Jessie James and Edgor Allen Poe. My son was saying no way. I told my son that we are also related to Walter Lantz. My son then asked if any of our family were in any of the world wars. I told him that his Great Grandfather was in WWI and his other Great Grandfather was a cook on one of the war ships during WWII. His dad's father was also in WWII on the Nevada ship. My father was a photographer during the Korea war. I told my son that his cousin was an air fighter during the Persian Gulf and the Iraqu wars. I have downed all my water.

I hope everyone has a good evening.

What a bummer to lose a homecoming game. :( I hope you had fun at the other activity.

This up down stuff is getting to me and my daughter. My daughter keeps sneezing and then I give her the allergy meds for a bit, then she gets better, then it starts up again. Ugh! My poor son just has it all the time!

We went apple picking at a local orchard yesterday, lots of farm animals and smells. It was nice to have a familiar smell, but it did irritate my sinuses. My aunt lived on a farm in Southern IL and we used to visit her a lot when I was little. My kids never got to meet her, though. They would have liked each other. She was one of those sweet ole farm ladies.

I hope everyone's last day of the weekend is great. It's supposed to rain all day here.... :(

Hi everyone,
Hope all of you are doing good. Sorry I wasn't on here yesterday. I have been under the weather but am getting better now. Something is going around the school and will probably be going through the family too. Hope everyone has a Fantastic Sunday with what ever you do. Rember to get your water in. This past weekend was homecoming at our school district. My son wanted to go but since it was raining I told my 11 year old that we are not going and setting out on cold wet bleachers in the pouring down rain. I told him that the local boys and girls clubs are having an open house at their new place. We could go there. He said sure mom. We went by the football feild on the way over to the open house. The score board said that we were losing 19 to 0. I told my son that I'm glad now that we didn't go to the game. He said yeah it wouldn't have been any fun mom.

Awesome score! I often get free food from my kids' school when I volunteer in the cafeteria. I basically just guess from previous similar items. I measure the weight and size if I can and look at what it might be similar to. Ex. I've used chevy's spanish rice for one at a potluck or found a pancake on a stick for the one at the school based on size and description. Nothing will be exact, but nothing really ever is anyway. Just do your best and pair it with things you know the numbers for.

Have a great weekend!

Hi guys,
I spent a yesterday at my son's school. Yesterday was hispanic day and also grandparents day. I had orginally planned to drop my son off and head off to the fitness center. But the volunteer supervisor came to me and said some of the workers had called in sick and would I mind working all day. I told her that I guess I would she said great the first thing is we need a delivery person to take food to all the schools. I did this and got my workout in by lifting heavy boxes and walking all over campus. At the end of the day I was told that all the left overs was mind as a thank you for working. My husband said that we don't have to cook for two or three days. So now I have a ice box full of mexican food and a freezer full of bread. The only thing is I don't know how to record it on the tracker since it was all home made and not store brought. Anyone have any ideas. So far today I have gotten in 56 oz of water and will probably be getting more down. The bowling alley that my son plays at has all regular soft drinks and no water or diet drinks. So I'm thinking about getting in all my water before hand and 3 or 4 more glasses to count against the cokes later on. I have in the past snuck in packets of crystal light and asked for a cup with ice. Then gone to the restroom and put water in it.. I hope everyone has a good day with whatever you do.

Until next time,

Sharon

Where at in Arkansas do you live? I live in Jonesboro myself and that's about how long it would take me to get to St. Louis. Glad you had a good game and made the memories that last a lifetime. Have a safe trip home.

We enjoyed the game yesterday. The Cardinals didn't win but was a good first time for my son. A good experience for him too. Too show that even though you put your onto it sometimes you still don't win. Don't be a sore loser. Go out with your head held high. We didn't get back to the hotel until 11:30PM. We were tired and my husband that did all the work at driving was sore this morning. I told him it was because of sitting in one position for 4 hours. We are getting ready to pack up and leaving for Arkansas. We will be driving again for 4 hours to our house. I am going to check on dad when we return to Arkansas. Hope everyone had a good Labor Day yesterday while having fun.

Sharon,

I'm glad to hear your dad is doing a bit better. I'm sure his will get very frustrated with all the changed to come, but since you make changes here on SP you can help him adapt like you do. You guys can work together to make something tasty and healthy. Good luck and I hope you guys have a great day tomorrow.

emoticon for asking Cheryl. He is doing better but still doesn't have an appitate. He doesn't like the fact that he cannot eat any salt. He said that the food tastes blan without it. He is still talking about going back to work Tuesday. I would like to talk him into taking another day off. But he is stubborn so probably won't. It is supposed to be raining here tomorrow in Clarksville when we are leaving. Hope you and your family has a good holiday.

Take care,

Sharon

I hope you get to see a good win for them. My son has been shooting his new bow and trying to get ready for archery tryouts with his uncle. Been trying to get caught up on cleaning but not looking good. Been keeping a headache almost daily due to sinuses. Tomorrow we are supposed to get some rain so maybe that will calm them down. Have fun at your game and drive safe. By the way how is your dad doing?

We are packing our bags and getting ready to leave tomorrow for St. Louis. We are putting in anything red. I told my son to pack his ball glove just in case of a foul ball or a home run ball comes our way. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day and be safe while out and about.

Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is doing good tonight. Yesterday I was awaken by the phone ringing off the wall at 5AM. It was my dad's care giver. My dad was sent to the hospital for chest pain and numbness in both arms. I went over to the hospital to be with my dad so he wouldn't feel alone. I know exactly how it feels to be in a place and no one comes to see you. The diagnoses was congested heart failure (fluid in the lung). The hospital sent dad home today just before lunch. So I haven't gotten any exercise yesterday or today. But I know I am going to get a lot of walking in this weekend. My family and I are heading up to St. Louis Sunday to take my 11 year old son to his first major league baseball game. I hope everyone has a good labor day weekend and be safe while you are out and about.

Until next time,

Sharon

If anyone has a Bounce U near them and has the chance to take their kids their as a family event, I would definitely suggest it. We had a blast this weekend. It was from 2:10pm to 3:30pm and they split you up into two 40 min. sessions in different rooms. It was fun doing obstacle races with the kids. Nice exercise, too.

Today was the first day of my and my son's summer vacation (I'm a teacher). I'm not getting paid in July so we're trying to find free things to do. We had an awesome day: walked to the library, played in our complex's pool, and read books. It feels really good to know that days off can be fun and free!

Our summer is pretty busy, and just a little structured. We do free lunch in the park for the kids everyday from 11:30 to 12:30, try to attend all the activities for the kids at the library (which can be at 10:30, or 1:30), then we have swim team at 4:30, and I work at a daycare from 5-8. Thrown in there is swim team for me at 8 am (if they ever get the pool fixed, until then it is 5am) and swim lessons for the youngest 2. We are trying to throw in a trip to the summer movies, but haven't figured out how to fit this in yet.
Hope everyone has a great summer!

Well, my kids get out tomorrow. I work so my days will not be that different. We do have two vacations planned. Both kids are doing swim lessons for 4 weeks. My 7 year old is going to a writing camp for 2 weeks. Both kids are doing a morning camp for 1 week at the nature center. Other times they are home with grammy. They have a jungle gym in the backyard and will probably be on that for hours.

Sounds like your doing good and I can't ever get mine structured because something always creeps in on the last minute to alter it. I hope to get alot of fun time in this summer for the kids at least it if just going to the park for some walking time.

Our summer is somewhat structured, but still fun. We always have a library day (b/c my kids read as much as I do), since we're stationed close to an ocean, we also have a beach day. We have a cooking day, my kids are 12,10, and almost 8 and they love to learn to make new foods. This week we are making homemade ice cream cookie-wiches. the rest of the days we are at the pool. At first I used to not like going, but now I've figured out to swim laps for 10 minutes, every 30 minutes. It's a great way to get in my exercise and play with my kids at the same time. And then once a month we pick someplace special to go...zoo, aquarium, historical sight, hiking, etc... someplace none of us have ever been! Last summer we combined these ideas. We went to an apple orchard, picked our own apples, then I taught my kids how to make homemade applesauce and apple pie (including their own crust), my kids said it was the best part of last summer.

My weight loss journey is similar to the "tortoise and the hare", if I remember to be the tortoise and just keep going...I will eventually win.

Since the summer break is upon us with our children I wanted a place to be able and come and chat with all the other members to see how things are going and what your doing daily. I know that my kids are due to be out tomorrow and boy has it turned off hot here. I do alot of walk tapes in my home and hope to keep it up once they are at home. What are some of your plans for the summer?
